Taken from empire film mag:

"Clue Velvet"

For those still twisting their brain-ropes over David Lynch's latest confusing twister, Mulholland Drive, the director has thoughtfully released a set of clues that might be of some use. So before you start reaching for a fork to plunge into your left ear and scoop out your mind-matter, run your eyes over this list of pointers and see if it clears up any of those naggling "huh?" questions. Although we seriously doubt it...

1. Pay particular attention to the beginning of the film: at least two clues are revealed before the credits.

2. Ntoice appearances of the real lampshade.

3. Can you hear the title of the film that Adam Kesher is Auditioning actresses for? Is it mentioned again?

4. Notice the location of the accident.

5. Who gives a key, and why?

6. Notice the robe, the ashtray and the coffee cup.

7. What is felt, realised and fathered at club Silencio?

8. Did talent alone help Camilla?

9. Note the occurences surrounding the man behind 'Winkies'.

10. Where is Aunt Ruth

AND NOW YOU SHOULD FIGURE IT ALL OUT MWAHAHAHAHAHAHH

Don't complain it took me a while to type this. lol

This wasn't in the latest edition of Empire Magazine. Or is there an American Magazine of the same name that I don't know of?

I don't really care about the explanations for Mulholland Drive. As it stands, the movie works beautifully on the level of a dream, and is the second best movie I saw last year. Still, once I get the DVD, I'll definitely look back at these hints, just to see if it makes any kind of deeper sense.

Even though I'm not much of a resident here myself, I was about to flame you for such a flippant comment.

Normally one expresses an opinion followed by justification of thier opinion just so others can see things through their eyes.

On the other hand coming across your other posts I now realise you're merely a bot following a simple formulaic algorithm:

<Moviename + random.word from "$dic.txt">

You could have fooled me, but your dictionary was too low on vocabulary with words ranging from "sucked" to "rocked"

Thank god I figured out you're merely artificial intelligence just in time, as I was about to waste plenty more replying with a meaningful post.

Irish.

And I agree with Steve. The movie works with or without an explanation. A friend who went with me mainly for the lesbian sex hated the movie. He's one of these guys who likes the movie to be resolved for him; to not think about it later. Needlesss to say, he liked Vanilla Sky. That's too comforting for me. I love the way Mulholland Dr. challenged me. It was a complete brain-teaser and I'd never come across anything like it. Was it a dream? Was it not? A movie that requires interpretation and an interesting conversation afterwards is so rare. Only Memento last year came close to Mulholland Drive in creating such a puzzle, but a second watch of that reveals everything. Mulholland Dr. may be watched a hundred times but I doubt anyone will know everything that Lynch was trying to convey.

It was my favourite film of 2001.

I share the same opinion on most parts there apart from:

I've seen it a couple of times and i don't think its a puzzle which you can solve and go AHHHHHHH.

It's like trying to explain your dream to someone else (and its importance to you) they won't really understand it...

Ok well it didnt suck but it is highly overated. The acting was good , I hated the plot , it was slow moving and boring.

I would just like to get something cleared up. What is the importance or meaning, if any, of the B-movie acting during the "dream"? When she "woke up" the acting became excellent, but before it was, well for lack of a better term, 'B-rated." Explain before I stalk Lynch.
