I like your list Blix. Here's mine:

10. David and Lisa- An interesting mental health facility drama with Keir Dullea (who appears later in this list!). It's handling of mental illness may seem naive by modern standards, but I found it charming.
9. Cool Hand Luke- Paul Newman is the man, and there are some great scenes here.
8. Bonnie and Clyde- The sense of energy is infectious, and all of the acting is top-notch.
7. Charade- It's frequently called a Hitchcock imitation, which isn't quite fair. It's a very funny film, and much more romantic than any Hitchcock film I can think of.
6. Yojimbo- There are so many great character archetypes in this one. The handsome villain with the gun, the huge guy with the misshapen face, the lowly restaurant owner, the corrupt politican-types. And of course, the original Man with No Name.
5. Psycho- I hate to put so much Hitchcock on all of these lists, but he's just made so many excellent films, dammit. A taut, strange, and scary film.
4. The Graduate- This film has aged surprisingly well, especially with recent college grads these days who feel like there is not much available to them.
3. The Birds- Hitchcock's last great film, it's a slow burner that takes a while to get going, but then finishes with a flourish.
2. The Apartment- My favorite of Billy Wilder's many amazing films. So funny and tender at the same time.
1. 2001: A Space Odyssey- It's a visceral movie-watching experience, even at such a long pace. Hard to describe, but it gets better every time I watch it.

My list:

1 - 2001: A Space Odyssey, Kubrick

2 - The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, Leone

3 - Andrei Rublev, Tarkovsky

4 - Persona, Bergman

5 - Doctor Strangelove, Kubrick

6 - Red Beard, Kurosawa

7 - For a Few Dollars More, Leone

8 - Lawrence of Arabia, Lean

9 - Planet of the Apes, Schaffner

10 - Psycho, Hithcock

2001: A Space Odyssey
Psycho
Last Year at Marienbad
Breathless
Persona
La Dolce Vita
L'Avventura
Belle de Jour
Blow-Up
The Birds

Fantastic decade.

It is probably my favorite decade. If I don't have into account the fact that I haven't explored the pre-90s cinema as much as the later decades, the regularity of what I have seen from the 60s impresses me; more than the 40s, the 50s or the 70s.

My top ten:

1. Days of wine and roses (Blake Edwards, 1962)
2. Harakiri (Masaki Kobayashi, 1962)
3. The apartment (Billy Wilder, 1960)
4. The man who shot Liberty Valance (John Ford, 1962)
5. For a few dollars more (Sergio Leone, 1965)
6. Not on your life (Luis García Berlanga, 1963)
7. Viridiana (Luis Buñuel, 1961)
8. Psycho (Alfred Hitchcock, 1960)
9. Repulsion (Roman Polanski, 1965)
10. High & low (Akira Kurosawa, 1963)

1. Harakiri
2. Dr. Strangelove
3. Bonnie and Clyde
3. Samurai Rebellion
4. Yojimbo
5. A Fistful of Dollars
6. 8 1/2
7. Belle de Jour
8. Lawrence of Arabia
9. Once Upon a time in the West
10. 2001: A Space Oddysey

The 60s were full of greats.

TokeZa, very interesting list
TokeZa you have 4 of my favorite movies in your top 10 from the 60's. Good show!
Thank you!

The biggest one i missed out on is Andrei Rublev... Its been lying around for ages but i havent seen it

Though i think my love for horror movies is a bit dominant...

I would like to recommend one of the more unknown directors, avantgarde filmmaker Kurt Kren, who made some very interesting short films in the 60's. I have seen 7 so far and they are all rated between 2.5/5-4/5. I especially would like to recommend:

10/65: Self-Mutilation

6/64: Mama and Papa: An Otto Mühl Happening

7/64: Leda and the Swan

It only takes 12 minutes to see those films...

Anyway on with the lists!

(my english isn't perfect)

The 5 that almost made my list were: Butch Cassidy, Marnie, For a Few Dollars More, Rosemary's Baby and The Hustler. These 5 are fantastic I just have 10 that I think are better.

1. The Graduate

2. To Kill a Mockingbird

3. Psycho

4. The Good, The Bad and the Ugly

5. The Apartment

6. Dr.Strangelove

7. Once Upon a Time in the West

8. Goldfinger

9. The Birds

10. Cool Hand Luke

Sorry if I'm rude but I'm right
It only takes 12 minutes to see those films...
My ratings:

10/65: Self-Mutilation -

6/64: Mama and Papa: An Otto Mühl Happening -

7/64: Leda and the Swan -

They are silent, but I watched them on Youtube and somebody added Arvo Part's music to the first one. I am a huge admirer of his works, so it probably is the reason why I like the first one the best. The visuals are kind of captivating as well and the whole thing is bizzare and enigmatic. Really enjoyed it all the way through. On the contrary, I didn't enjoy the rest. They are very provocative, but seem so pretentious it's hard to bear. I'm not interested in scatology neither. I probably should have rated it even lower, but let it be as it is.

Nice to see some love for THE AMERICANIZATION OF EMILY...such a lovely little movie.

This is really tough, but in no particular order:

WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF?

THE GRADUATE

BONNIE AND CLYDE

THE SOUND OF MUSIC

DR. STRANGELOVE (OR HOW I LEARNED TO STOP WORRYING AND LOVE THE BOMB)

THE APARTMENT

THE LION IN WINTER

IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT

WEST SIDE STORY

THE GREAT ESCAPE

1. 8 1/2
2. Dr. Strangelove
3. The Graduate
4. The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
5. The Apartment
6. 2001: A Space Oddysey
7. La Dolce Vita
8. Once Upon a Time in the West
9. Rosemary's Baby
10. Psycho

I am not good at making all these top 10's and 5's.

But Guess Who's Coming to Dinner would certainly be there!

But I guess #1 for me would be The Good, The Bad, The Ugly.

1. Psycho
2. Dr. Stangelove
3. The Hustler
4. Cool Hand Luke
5. Point Blank
6. Rosemary's Baby
7. Once Upon a Time in the West
8. Spartacus
9. El Cid
10. To Kill a Mockingbird

Bear in mind, I have to see Lawrence of Arabia. That might change next week, and afterwards, I might have to update this list.
