Top Ten movies of the '80s

Tools

I am the Watcher in the Night
1. Rain Man
2. The Brave Little Toaster
3. Glory

All in all, aside from Rain Man, nothing really intrigues me from the 80's yet, though this is probably the decade that I've seen the least of, for one reason or another.
Watch Once Upon a time in America, that's an extremely intriguing film and if you like sci fi, you just can't go wrong with Empire Strikes Back.

Still have lots to see, of course, but here's my ten, in no particular order:

Back to the Future (Zemeckis, '85)
The Breakfast Club (Hughes, '85)
Airplane! (Zucker, Abrahams & Zucker, '80)
Raiders of the Lost Ark (Spielberg, '81)
The Princess Bride (Reiner, '87)
Sex, Lies, and Videotape (Soderbergh, '89)
Dead Poet's Society (Weir, '89)
Fast Times at Ridgemont High (Heckerling, '82)
When Harry Met Sally... (Reiner, '89)
Do the Right Thing (Lee, '89)

My personal favorite 10 of the 80s in no order are...

Back to the Future (zemeckis)
Ghostbusters (reitman)
The Burbs (Dante)
A Nightmare on Elm Street (craven)
Big Trouble in Little China (carpenter)
The Thing (carpenter)
Blood Simple (Coen bros)
Day of the Dead (romero)
The Terminator (cameron)
Beetlejuice (burton)

Honorable mention ET, Poltergeist, every film Directed by John Hughes and about the 10 others he wrote. Basically every Carpenter, Craven, Dante film of the 80s, and Empire Strikes Back/Return of the Jedie. So many more. Tough to make a top 10.

There are so many great movies from the 80s, Heavy Metal is up there. Your list is pretty awesome. Have you ever seen Invasion U.S.A.? If Red Dawn is your favorite you have to have some appreciation for Invasion U.S.A.
