5 Films from the 2000's that will be remembered 50 years from now (i.e. classics)

I think he made a cameo or something, I don't remember seeing him though.

I said October because this month I'm doing everything by Tarkovsky, Keislowski, and then both seasons of One Piece. October is for Miike and any other horror I haven't seen/bought yet. Also hence why I said I'd see Satoshi Kon's work in September

What about Toy Story 3. Probably one of the best Pixar films in a while and it seems that films linked with Disney last quite a long time.

Sweet. I'm on a similar schedule with Bergman. I wanted to get started last night, then tonight, but it's no good. Crap's in the way. But yeah, I finished Tarkovsky a few weeks ago. He only has a few films, unfortunately. I need to Mizoguchi it up pretty soon. I don't have any other plans.

Mizoguchi is awesome, even though he's only got 5 films. I really need to finish Bergman, but he'll take forever, same with Kurosawa. It's like when I first tackled The Cure discography, just chipping away bits at a time.

Would TS3 count in the 2000's films as the title suggests? I think the whole series will be remembered if not only for being the beginning of Pixar, which is an achievement in itself

I thought it had to be a film from 2000 on, but either way it will be remembered.

lolwut... on wikipedia it has more than 30 films from him.

A friend told me to start at Osaka Elegy, which means going about 22 films until Street of Shame. I don't see this happening. I might just start at Ugetsu and get his last 7 films.

My Bergman streak starts with right after The Seventh Seal all the way to Fanny and Alexander. It also includes Saraband just for kicks. It was done in 2002 which is cool.

Kurosawa is pretty intense. I haven't been going in order and probably won't. I was also told to not watch The Idiot without reading the novel first.

Also...

Like I said, I'll probably start by watching his final seven, which are said to be his best. Ugetsu is usually cited as his peak anyways. Also... I have alternative means by which to obtain these films. Availability depends however... the less popular the film, the harder it is to get. Luckily, Mizoguchi is pretty known so...

I think this is the second time me and you hijacked this thing. All I had to do was bring up Miike.

Why bother? When this
From the 2000s, there are very few movies that will be called classics in 50 years time. Hardly any will stand the test of time compared to the real classics of the 1940s and 50s. But here's 5 I think will last:

1. LoTR trilogy. This is just epic. Gripping, fantastic acting and nice, natural-looking special effects as opposed to just churning out the CGI stuff that spoils films today
2. Gladiator.
3. 300
4. Saw
5. Ginger Snaps
is the first post...

Um... feel free to start it, winter. I already started too many threads today... oh Kon... whhhhyyyyyy.....

I won't lie. Kon's Millennium Actress got a pretty intense emotional experience outta me the first time I watched it over a year ago. I haven't wanted to watch it since. I've been waiting for just the right mood, and I think tonight might be the night.

I definitely think that Mystic River and Gran Torino will be able to stand the test of time. Lord of the Rings should as well, even though I'm not the biggest fan, it's easy to see it become a classic. There are many other possibilities, but I'm honestly not quite sure at this time.

St. Elmo's Fire was from the same year and he was also in Jay and Silent Bob.
Thanks for pointing that out, didn't remember St. Elmo's Fire.... But still Breakfast Club didn't do much to his career...
I don't think any of the stars of Breakfast Club will be remembered as one of greatest actors ever lived.. They will just be remembered as the Brat Pack.

Why do you say Gran Torino
