The novel this is based on was written by Roy Huggins, who also wrote the screenplay. He also created the tv shows The Fugitive, Maverick, and The Rockford Files.

Fun fact: there is an unrelated romantic comedy from 1994 with the exact same title.

I've seen Tom Powers in nine films, including Double Indemnity, Flesh and Fury, New York Confidential, and The Blue Dahlia.

I liked this, although it is a little too convoluted for its own good. I thought Franchot Tone did a good job in the lead role, but none of the other characters really stood out to me. There was some fun, snappy noir dialogue that helped elevate the film. 7/10 is my rating.

Got to watch this in 35mm at a noir festival some years ago; really enjoyed it.
