Movies that should be remade.

Why not?

I love the original too, but it's so dated (with the special effects, half of it being shot in a water-treatment complex, etc.)
Its the original. Its great and there will never be another Michael York.

He could play the old man in the remake!

(@FilmBuff; should see me now - talkin' 'bout messin' with the source material! But then the original movie already did that by changing aspects from the book.)

I never read the book. Its a childhood favorite film. I had a crush on York. Im not sure why as an adult.

I didnt care for the remake of The Island of Dr. Moreau.

I believe the Logan's Run film extended the age for "carousel" by 9 years (age 30) from the book (where the age was 21). I think the reason for this was the film makers didn't want a cast of all teenagers.

I like Michael York too! But I have to say I've never seen any version of Dr. Moreau that I liked.

Only thing i didnt like was Farrah Fawcett.

She helped sell tickets!
Its funny because i know Jenny Agutter is in the film.

My daughter got me hooked on Call The Midwife and Jenny plays a major character on the show.

Jenny, by far, was the main attraction (at least for the guys) in Logan's Run... far more than Farrah, IMO.

Victim of The Night
^Naw, that movie works because it keeps it light and silly. I don't think the story is that deep overall.
Well, it's not "deep" it just has some really interesting sci-fi elements and could have been a good sci-fi movie but instead it's just a Stallone actioner of the most excessive type. I'd like to fix that if I owned a studio.

Victim of The Night
Maybe we can think of some movies that suffered too much from tiptoeing around certain subjects courtesy of the evil Hays Code.
How about Suddenly, Last Summer ?
Did they ever properly remake The Big Sleep?

Victim of The Night
I was really, really hoping that Nicolas Wending Refn was gonna get his crack at Logan's Run. Really bummed me out when that all fell apart. I have a very long, close relationship with the movie, the TV series, and the book.

Yeah, in the book everyone dies at 21 so you have a bunch of teenagers taking society-issued drugs in sex-clubs until they die.
Hard to make that into a movie in any era.

Not that I'm aware of.

I want a new version of Dark Star that had less of the dumb humor, and more of the dark existentialism.

If also love to see Gumby come back, but only if they used real stop animation, and still had the crazy plots.

Did you know he once went back in time to 1212 and saved all the kids sold into slavery during the Children's Crusade?

I'm going to have to do that. Thank you for the suggestion, Ms Gal. That's a good idea. I've heard of Green Knight and Last Legion although I never got around to them. I think I was under the impression they weren't very good. I can look into them.
The Green Knight is incredible. It’s very unique and somewhat Lynchian.

Interesting question....what DO you remake? I would not remake Casablanca, which is so dependent on specific actors. If I had millions to squander, I'd try something that has potential but was not done well in the past, a movie I had hopes for but that crashed and burned or turned into self-parody.

My moon-shot movie would be the Ten Commandments, with a non-Charlton Heston Moses, big FX and much better writers and actors, the kind who don't look like all of the dialog is being delivered like a sermon.
I watched that about a week ago and did think it would be interesting to attempt it now. I have always wondered if it’s possible to adapt the Bible (some books at least) as if it were just a novel (so not delivering anything like a sermon for sure).

But I think star power would be a hindrance here; no matter how brilliant of an actor were to be chosen, I would find it bizarre to see DDL or whoever as Moses. I imagine I’d just be seeing DDL like Angelina Jolie in The Tourist where I kept thinking, Here goes Angelina Jolie. I think it would only work with an unknown actor, and who’d take a risk like that?

But also, these aren’t really stories it would make sense to enhance narratively, so not sure great writers would help. I feel like if there’s one context where it’s best to just stick to the story, the Bible is it.

I can check that one and Last Legion out. Lynchian is cool.
