Oldie mystery w/ clues designed into the parquet floor of the mansion

Tools

Hi, First, it is not "Clue" as this popped up first on Google search. 8-)

1950's, I think. _Maybe_ early 1960s. One of the many, many, old dark house/mansion movies. This I think is in a mansion. I have an image of someone on the staircase looking down at the floor with certain shadows on it which make him finally _see_ the clues.

The doors of wisdom are never shut. - 'Socrates'
Its not shadows but Indiana Jones and the last crusade has a scene where hes on a staircase looking down on the floor and sees the roman numeral for ten 'X' which is the location marker for an artefact hes searching for.

Did you know that BATMAN has a code word to ask SUPERMAN for help because he has trouble saying he needs help.
The word is Banana Muffin.

Thanks, but I think that came out later than the 1950s - early 60s. Thanks for playing. 8-)

I can see where that came from. I should have said that it is quite hard to see and it was the shadows and it was..umm, words or something longer.

I have 2 posts here: I thought that 2 memories were of the same movie but a friend said that they were 2 different ones. He could not think of the names, though. So, _maybe_ this is the same movie with the deadly trapdoor as in the other post.

Both movies were looking for hidden treasure/money in the house.

i loved those type of films as a kid so here's a few i remember, i hope they help you out...

Scared Stiff 1953
What a Carve Up 1961
Ghost Breakers 1940
The Cat and the Canary 1939
And Then There Were None 1945

if u type *mystery mansion black and white movie* in yahoo it gives u a link for youtube with many full films

It would be earlier than you said but I wonder if it could be one of the Basil Rathbone Sherlock Holmes films? I feel like there was one that involved an old house.

Thank you for trying. I had not seen Scared Stiff before. It is not the one I am looking for but seems worth watching. I have tried all the search engines and apparently the words "Treasure clue made in parquet floor" have not been typed by anyone online other than about the Indy Jones movie. I have been looking for years. And even tried a "Old mansions in movies" blog, but it was so old the writer never got back to me. "Parquet floor in movies" gets me to "Clue" which is no help. 8-)

the only other film i can think of is Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein...

I have been looking for years.
Keep trying – I did in two cases and they were both answered on Movie Forums. One had taken me over thirty years to find .
