Final 2017 Oscar Predictions. Each section follows the same formula: first group is who I think will be nominated, in order of likelihood, then who I think has the best chance to upset, then the final group is who would be a surprise but not an entirely unexpected one. We’ll see early tomorrow morning how close this is.

Strong contenders
Jake Gyllenhaal

Unintentional puns aside, he should have been given one for Nightcrawler.

I'll be watching Stronger this week. Held off as I'm not emotionally ready for it.

Predictions and statements.

BP
Will be nom'd
3BB, Shape of Water, Dunkirk, Lady Bird, Get Out, Call me By Your Name, The Post, I Tonya

(This would have been a good year for a strong 5, while I've been generally happy with what I've seen this year, I'll have a top twenty. It would have been fun to see who would have gotten snubbed in the SJW Olympics of gay, black, and female film)

Should be nom'd - Logan, I think this is the "favorite" movie of the year for most and the one that has the legs to be remembered in 5-10 years(good luck Lady Bird and Get Out). Mudbound on Netflix was also very good but that feels like the sign of the next movie hitting Dee Rees.

Director
Nolan, Del Toro, Gerwig, Peele, McDonagh

Nolan finally gets his directors nom...even though like Charlie Brown and the football they are going to keep pulling it away from him. This will be Del Toro or McDonagh's year, Gerwig is winning in Screenplay but Portman shamed the academy so white dudes Ridley Scott and Steven Speilberg are out.

Should be nom'd
Dee Rees did a really good job in Mudbound, I'd rather see her in than Gerwig and Peele. Ridley Scott should be the other guy to slip in for All the Money in the World, stunt casting aside it's a film that just does everything right.

Best Actor
Oldman, Hanks, Kaluuya, Day-Lewis, Chalamet

The Oldman coronation shall be complete, I think Franco misses out for Hanks. You know it's been 16 years since Hanks has made the cut this will be his fifth performance where's he's been in the mix and snubbed since 2015

But if you were to bump Hanks it should be for Sam Rockwell and Willem Defoe as those are lead performances that are fraudulently being thrown in Supporting.

Best Actress
Ronan, Hawkins, McDormand, Robbie, Streep

McDormand was good, Ronan was good, Margot Robbie became a movie star with I, Tonya.

I'd like to see Michelle Williams slip in there and take Streep's spot. Give Michelle a little justice for losing her My Week Marilyn performance to Streep's Iron Lady (a performance I was not a fan of). I think it was a hell of a lot harder to give Monroe gravitas and humanity than Thatcher.

Best Sup Actor
Plummer, Harrellson, Rockwell, Defoe, Stewart

Perhaps Sthulberg's performances with split the ballot and Patrick Stewart can finally get some validation. Florida Project is cute but it's not a real film, more of an experimental type thing Rockwell is walking away with this.

Best Sup Actress
Blige, Spencer, Manville, Metcalf, Janney

Janney is winning this, should go to Metcalf. I would have liked to see Connie Britton slip in for Beatrix at Dinner or Tilda Swinton for Okja but ah well such is life.

It's a very mean and nasty place and I don't care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. I hope The Disaster Artist gets the Oscar, mainly just so it will be like Greg Sestero has achieved his biggest dream.
I just noticed that Disaster Artist was completely snubbed in every category aside from Adapted Screenplay.
James Franco receives a few accusations and the movie is blocked from the top nominations. That is just horsesh*t. Franco deserved a Best Actor nod.

YOU'RE TEARING ME APART OSCARS!!!

I'm surprised Jordan Peele and Get Out got nomination in the Director and Picture categories. In a good way of course.

Peele has got to be ecstatic. From sketch comedy show actor, writer, and host to acclaimed director from his debut film. Good for him!

You can't win an argument just by being right!

Disaster Artist wasnt snubbed, unless I'm hallucinating.

And maybe the panel just thought franco was an undeserving pot head. He probably has enough statuettes to turn into mull bowls and bongs anyway.

You can't win an argument just by being right!
Thank God Disaster Artist isn't a big player in this.
I havent seen it so I'm not commenting on it but getting nominated for awards reminds me of several years ago a movie winning the top award in my country. It was about a guy who emptied portable toilets. Wow. I've never seen that either.
