The Fog (1980)

One of the scariest and coolest horror films of all time just turned 35 this year and one of Carpenter's best movies.

I first saw this on video at age 4 and thought it was a creepy movie, no doubt this is one of the movies that made me a horror fan and influenced some stuff from Silent Hill games to the Garfield Halloween special.

The Guy Who Sees Movies
I like that movie, especially much more than the later remake. I actually once visited the lighthouse that was the set for the radio station at Pt Reyes. It's such a forbidding location but a really beautiful place, often whales are visible from the high cliffs. It's part of a large park north of San Francisco, one of the windiest places in the US. Story has it that, back in the day, lighthouse keepers' wives suffered from the isolation and got batty after a while. I had to wonder if Carpenter saw the location and decided to write a plot about it. I also had an epic pizza in the town of Inverness that was in the movie.

I will agree that it is an underrated and enjoyable film to watch. Only Halloween and The Thing top it for me Carpenter wise. And Assault on Presinct 13
