Indeed, that's much worse as comic books have at least some literary quality. But in the 1980's Hollywood made most blockbusters based on completely original ideas.

As an old school comic book reader I actually think the superhero type genre of film is still in the very early stages. Don't list me the films based on comics please, I am very aware of them all. Cross off all the total failures, I do not even mean the ones that lost money, but the ones that never even made it to the screen, or very limited release. I mean the ones that were at least taken seriously. Either way a large team-up crossover is just too early. now crossovers would be great, think: Spidey - Wolverine, Ironman - Captain America, Hulk - Thing. Lots more options out there. Anyway I love great stories - be they comicbook or otherwise. To me a well written script/story is just that no matter what genre.

Could be awesome, should be awesome, and if The Avengers and X-Men can work it is possible. Just damn hard.
The studios will probably wait and see if Justice League ever happens, if that works as well surely they will give it a go.
