Recommend an uplifting, light film?
I'm not sure exactly what to make of the "uplifting, light" criteria (comedies only, drama, musicals, what???), but generally I'd say take a look at Charade (1963), A Hard Day's Night (1965), What's Up, Doc? (1972), The Three Musketeers & The Four Musketeers (1974 & 1975), Heaven Can Wait (1978), Breaking Away (1979), My Favorite Year (1982), All of Me (1984), The Princess Bride (1987), Hear My Song (1991), The Man Who Knew Too Little (1997) or The Straight Story (1999). That's a pretty wide group to choose from, all fitting what it basically seems you're looking for.
Or not.

For those who haven't seen it, it's about a band from the early 80's that was really popular and had the admiration of other bands. Unfortunately due to circumstances they never achieved the fame they so desperately wanted. Instead of giving up they continued for decades and finally thanks to the help of a screenplay writer for The Terminal they are now getting the recognition they deserve. I think that it's an uplifting true story with a good message.
My favorite light film would probably be Finding Nemo.
I thought I'd resurrect this very old thread, which I found when researching a new thread I was going to call "Popcorn Flicks". To me, a popcorn movie is one that, like its namesake, has no nutritional value, but is delicious nonetheless. Many people call them "Summer Popcorn Movies," but I suppose they don't all come out in summer. So anyway...

Here's an oldie but a goodie. Following a brilliant ad campaign that featured not much more than the logo, Ghostbusters took the world by storm in the summer of 1984. Ghostbusters is just a blast from beginning to end. With brilliant casting,a fun script, and inspired direction, it's just as much fun now as it was when it first came out.

Prospero found this thread and turned into something else (something that was along the lines of a thread he was going to start) and we've gone on from there.

An "uplifting" film is kinda like a porno. I'd know it if I saw it. I listed what I consider a perfect collection of films in this thread because each of them give me and most all my family and friends a big "uplift" when they ended. The movie ends and we're on a high. What's so hard not to understand? The Young in Heart will make everyone who sees it "feel good". To me, that's an "uplifting" film. It's just a coincidence that I quoted that crap about porno because just because some moronic male "feels" an "uplift" somewhere does not mean that he's watched an "uplifting" film. I won't go there right now, but I wouldn't trust that person with my wife or daughter unless I know them personally. Up is my vote for the most uplifting film of this year though. Yep, I'd trust the cartoon Ed Asner and the kid with my loved ones. The Christopher Plummer character though, Muntz, not at all.

I think this is where some of the confusion's come from for a number of people in this thread, when talking about not understanding some of the choices.

The invention of Lying
Enchanted
Ghosts of Girlfriends Past
Kate & Leopold
Wedding Crashers
Pretty much any romantic comedy.

Given how bad a fairly good cross-section of romantic comedies tend to be, I find them to be the exact opposite of uplifting. They're definitely light, though.
