I can't have Vicky and others signing up to random trials. Flowers will be just as hard to find. Even though it pains me to type it, I'm changing those two.

Masters of Science Fiction
Fringe

Final decision. I promise.

Also Monno sorry mate but i kept missing this last night even though MV quoted it too. Think it was because of the amount of posts that were coming in. I can't really change Raised By Wolves now coz people have voted on that match and they had done before you made this post anyway. It's not gonna really matter though if people can't find it then they can't vote against it either unless they are awful human beings that are voting without watching in which case they will burn in hell so don't worry. i'm planning on watching it too.

I'll change Flowers though for you and i'll re-randomize the matches to be fair. So which one do you want?

I watched two episodes of Hemlock Grove this morning. That show's....weird. It does seem very Topsy-like to me though for some reason, if that even makes sense.

I've been watching it in between episodes of Derek. I knew that show was not going to be like Gervais' usual humour, but I wasn't expecting it to be so sad.

Miss Vicky

I'm going to try to watch some Derek this week, assuming I can find it, since I've seen all of Ash Vs. Evil Dead. Not sure how that match will end up though. As much as I love Bruce Campbell, I wasn't enamored with the show.

Can't vote in any really. I watched a season and a bit of Hannibal, and it was decent at times, but I got tired of how dark and dull the whole thing was. I had never watched an episode of South Park until recently, but seen a few now, including one last night which I was laughing a lot at, I think if I sat down and watched more it could become a favourite of sorts. I'd feel bad voting against Hannibal on this basis though.

"The Ungroundable", I don't find it all laugh out loud funny, but some parts are great, my favourite part was when his parents were talking to him after he turned into a vampire and he says something like "You can not ground... the ungroundable". I saw the "Stand your ground" episode which I thought was great too, my favourite part was when he was on a plain and the hostess comes along and says something like "please sir, take a seat" and he replies something like "tell the pilot to take off" :p

Camo

"You can not ground... the ungroundable".

I think it's actually something like "How can you ground that which can't be grounded?". If i'm thinking of the same scene, the best part is the way his parents jump back in fright when he says it

Those ones aren't even big favourites of mine but i do like them. Glad to see you are enjoying it :)

Team America is one of my favourite films. I love everything Matt and Trey have done though even Baseketball and Orgazmo which most people think are terrible. Actually Cannibal The Musical wasn't that good and i haven't seen The Book of Mormon but i can't see me not liking that since the Mormon episode is one of my favourites.

Changed your pick Monno.

Watched the first episode of The Practice. I liked it. Dylan McDermott is a bit hit and miss for me but i liked him in this. It is interesting having various cases or other legal matters going on in the one episode. I was most interested in the main drug one which Dylan was taking on. Free Willy was pretty funny though "i was protesting NAFTA" You exposed yourself to Goofy at Disneyland" "I thought it was Pluto"

Personally i don't really believe many 17 year olds would risk 15 years in prison over taking 10 months and later 4 months even if they didn't do anything wrong. I'd like to think i'd have stuck to my principles but i can't say that with confidence. Also i don't have a clue how they found her not guilty, if it was supposed to be from Dylans closing speech when all he does is say "she didn't do it" then i find that completely ridiculous.

Still i enjoyed it and am looking forward to the next two before voting.

Just about to watch the second episode of The Practice and i've been thinking about the first. It is really annoying me now how that was done. Does anybody remember the first episode?

Basically Dylan was defending a 17 year old girl who was caught disposing of cocaine and was charged with possession of cocaine with intent to supply or whatever it is called, not sure if this law is real or if it has changed or whatever but in this episode anyway the mandatory minimum is 15 years. The cop was sent to the house where she was caught with a warrant for her brother who was not there. Her story was that the cocaine was her brothers and she was trying to dispose of it to protect him. First of all wouldn't she be charged with trying to dispose of evidence or something like that, and surely trying to protect your brother isn't something that would be considered for a second whether she is a dealer or not she was still in possession of a significant amount of cocaine. Even if they got her off of the intent to supply charges surely she'd still be sentenced for something? She admitted to being in possession of and attempting to dispose of the cocaine, what the hell?

Now my problem is how they got her off. Unless i missed something there's only two possibilities of why the jury found her not guilty. Dylans closing speech or the discrediting of the cop. If it is Dylans closing speech then that is completely absurd. What he basically said in it was that he wouldn't be allowed to knowingly tell the jury something false. Not sure if this is a real law again but he explains if he knew for a fact his client was guilty and he said otherwise he could be disbarred. He then says over and over "my client is not guilty". And that's it. The female lawyer says something like great closing speech that must have been what did it. What? How on earth would a defence lawyer saying his client is not guilty convince anyone of anything. And again she admitted to being in possession of and trying to dispose of the drugs. What?

If it was the discrediting of the cop that's slightly more understandable, but it is still baffling that this swayed anyone. In questioning the cop he brought up a hypothetical scenario of him catching his younger son with drugs. and his son claiming they were a friends, then asked would you arrest him? The cop said probably not. Obviously this was trying to make out that he'd be lenient to a family member under the same circumstances. Then the prosecutor tries damage control by having the cop point out that his son has proven himself trustworthy. The cop then interrupts her and says he misspoke and that he would most likely arrest his son under those circumstances, so Dylan says you'd arrest your own trustworthy son for this, so Rebekah never stood a chance? What the hell is that? He just showed the jury that he had created a ridiculous catch-22 hypothetical scenario that either way the cop answered he'd come out the bad guy. What juror would fall for that? And what is that supposed to be anyway, reasonable doubt? Reasonable doubt of what? She ADMITTED being in possession of and trying to dispose of cocaine. Is it me? What's going on? :rotfl:

Sorry for the rant. I liked the episode, but just running it over in my head pissed me off haha.

Shouldnt most tv shows in well round one sets more or less have simular themes mostly. I noticed that Black Adder went against Dukes Of Hazzard. I would have thought do too both show s having cool cars that Dukes Of Hazzard vs Starsky and Hutch made more since.

No. The shows are randomized and whatever comes out is what we go with.

Watched the second episode. I liked it again I thought it was a two parter because it was called Part I, what the hell haha? I didn't expect the custody case to go that way. I expected the husband to kill the wife, not the son to kill the husband. It was good to see the prosecutors agree that the kid acted in self defence, with me thinking it was a two parter i thought the second part would be the kids trial. Some other stuff was good as well like the guy whose wages are getting garnished because he is refusing to pay the law firm. Got quite a few laughs out of that one.

The show has a really hectic loads of different things going on in an episode quality and i dig it.

Few familiar faces popped up like Traeger or whatever he's called: the janitor from Friends and Steve from Sex and the City. That was pretty cool.

Will watch episode 3 before voting tomorrow.

Camo

Watched the third episode another solid one. I used to like Criminal Minds but got seriously sick of it and can't watch an episode anymore. Not sure how long i'd stay interested in The Practice but i've liked what i've seen so far and when i have a bit more time i might watch more of it. So..

The Practice vs Criminal Minds

Going to watch some of Ash VS Evil Dead next.

Coincidentally, I just finished watching this episode.

The cop was sent to the house where she was caught with a warrant for her brother who was not there. Her story was that the cocaine was her brothers and she was trying to dispose of it to protect him. First of all wouldn't she be charged with trying to dispose of evidence or something like that
The charge against her was possession with the intent to distribute. She wasn't actually trying to dispose of it, she was just hiding it in a pillowcase in some futile attempt to hide it from the cops. The prosecution didn't care that it was her brother who was the drug dealer, the fact that she had the drugs meant, to them, that she was at least facilitating the distribution of them.

Now my problem is how they got her off. Unless i missed something there's only two possibilities of why the jury found her not guilty. Dylans closing speech or the discrediting of the cop. If it is Dylans closing speech then that is completely absurd.
Even if the jury bought into him saying his client was innocent, I don't think that's the entire reason why they gave the verdict they did. I imagine it lies with the "intent to distribute" portion of her charges. I think the jury believed that she was trying to hide the drugs to protect her brother and that she herself had no plans to sell the drugs.

If they had just charged her with possession, then she definitely would've been found guilty. Or at least I think so.

Yeah, it kind of irritated me to be honest. I was actually hoping they'd say she was guilty. She wouldn't take the 4 month deal when the alternative was 15 years. There's sticking to your integrity, and then there's just plain stupidity. But since she was found not guilty anyway, I guess it doesn't matter and we're supposed to come away thinking that we should always do what's right and stand by our morals or something. What nonsense haha.

Completely agree. It's so ridiculous that she rejected the 10 month deal. Especially when her lawyers were heavily advising her to take it saying i don't think we can win the case. Really can't see many people rejecting that and risking 15 years unless their lawyer said chances were they'd win, and even then the risk is massive.

The 4 month one i can actually kinda understand a bit more. Simply because the prosecutor cutting that much off it after the cop discrediting would make it seem like the case was going your way. Not that i think many people would reject the final 4 month deal but that was slightly more believable at that point.

No Vote: The Dukes of Hazard - Cricket vs Blackadder Goes Fourth - Miss Vicky
Will vote after I watch Dukes of Hazard.

South Park - Camo vs Hannibal - Cosmic
I used to occasionally watch South Park in the late 90s, very early 00s, but I was never really into it. Some of my friends absolutely love the show, but it was never really for me. As it's been well established by now, I love Hannibal. So this wasn't even something I had to think twice about.

Ash Vs Evil Dead - Monno vs Derek - Daniel
I'd been meaning to watch Derek since I like Ricky Gervais and I really liked Extras, but I never got around to it until now. Like I've already said, I knew this show was a bit more serious but I was not expecting it to be so sad. After the first episode I didn't think I'd end up voting for it, but it eventually won me over. I nearly cried almost every episode, and I blame Dan for nominating it haha. I like Bruce Campbell and the Evil Dead series, and I thought Ash vs Evil Dead was fine, but that's all it really was. I was watching it when it was new and frequently kept forgetting it was on. It just left no impact. Was nice to see Lucy Lawless again though. And I'll gladly watch the next season.

Criminal Minds - Mistique vs The Practice - Sean
A few years ago I ended up moving home for awhile. My mom was super into Criminal Minds at the time, and it was always on tv. I think I ended up watching nearly every episode (out of order) of the first 6 or 7 seasons. I wasn't really into the show, but it was something to watch, and I like to poke fun of it. The Practice is a show I'd never seen before. I'd heard of it, but hadn't seen a single episode. I find legal dramas to be a bit dull, and this was no exception. My main problem was that I just didn't care for any of the characters. At least with Criminal Minds I liked Mandy Patinkin and Matthew Gray Gubler (until he got too annoying later on).

Stranger Things - Mistique vs Under The Dome? - Topsy
I saw most of season 1 of Under the Dome when it was new. It just never grabbed me, and I never bothered to go back and try to finish it. I just finally got around to watching a few episodes of Stranger Things, and I really love it. The atmosphere, the story, the opening credits. So good. Can't wait to watch the other few episodes.

Hemlock Grove - Topsy vs Queer As Folk (US) - Miss Vicky
Hemlock Grove started off really awkward, and it didn't really know what kind of show it wanted to be. It seemed like it was trying to be mature, but still appealing to a younger audience. I kind of hated having to watch it at the start. That said, after I finished the third episode I was like, you know what, I could live with watching more of this. My room mates would definitely make fun of me - I'd make fun of me, but whatever. I really enjoyed the US version of QaF though (I watched it all a few years ago), so I'm obligated to vote for that.

Sherlock - Miss Vicky vs Raised By Wolves - Monno
I love the Sherlock series. Whatever this was up against would have had to put up a good fight. I had no idea what Raised by Wolves was going to be, and had no idea what to think after I saw that first episode. In the following episodes, it proved that it could be occasionally really funny and clever, but Germaine never grew on me and was instead the source of many eye rolls. It's not a bad show, but there's no contest between it and Sherlock.

No Vote: Father Ted - Rodent vs Starksy and Hutch - Chypmunk
May vote later. I need to watch both shows though.

MonnoM

Yeah, I don't know what the hell happened with the grammar there. Me speak English gooder than that. :D

Anyway, any sort of fantasy/horror elements like werewolves, vampires, zombies, etc. just don't work for me (except in the context of horror comedy). I'll still watch it some time this week, if only so I can vote for Queer As Folk.

They're not super graphic, but certainly much more so than the average TV viewer is used to seeing. It's basically a soap opera, with a lot of emphasis on the characters lives and relationships. It's got a lot of drama and a lot of comedy. The season one finale in particular devastates me every time.

Zombies are hit and miss with me, too. Vampires, well, ever since Twilight came out they haven't been the same. It's hard these days to find decent horror films featuring these elements. But I think if you were introduced to some of the greats, your tune might change. Even if by one note. :D

Watched the two part Queer As Folk premiere.

I liked Michael and his narration. Michael and him still being in the closet to certain people as well as his clear jealousy towards Brian was the most interesting thing to me. I was curious at first if he had a thing for him or he was just jealous of how easy it seemingly is for him.

Didn't like most of the music, once they left the nightclub at the beginning i thought it would be done and it actually appeared all the time, when i heard it during the "hey Mikey lets fly" scene i honestly burst out laughing.

I was creeped out by Brians relationship with Justin. Mostly because Brian seemed to love calling him a boy and seemed to like it more when he discovered he was a 17 year old virgin. I will say that Justin was hilarious at times though.

Anyway it was fine, just like i expected though, a bit awkward and not something i would continue watching. Well another episode at least to vote haha.

Miss Vicky
09-08-16, 02:25 AM
Michael is my favorite character from the show. Hal Sparks who plays him is the reason I started watching it.

The dynamic between Brian and Justin changes pretty dramatically over the course of the show and even over the first season. I should also note that their involvement is lifted directly from the original UK version, except that the boy in the UK version was only 15.

Glad to see you giving it a fair shot though.

I keep meaning to watch some Derek or some Hannibal, but I'm stuck in a Queer As Folk rewatching vortex (I've rewatched 19 out of 22 episodes of season one in the last few days and I have all five seasons on DVD so no idea when this will stop).

Was surprised to see the mum from American Crime in it, she was only in it for a minute though. The most disgusting thing was when the girl broke her fingernail at the start

Will watch another tonight then the last ones from both tomorrow before voting.

Miss Vicky

I was actually surprised by Hemlock Grove. Not pleasantly surprised, but surprised. I expected to hate it for the lycanthropy but ended up hating it for the dialogue. Cringe.

Miss Vicky

Finished my QAF season one marathon and my eyes are all red from tears.

Watching episode one of Derek now. Not impressed so far, but it probably isn't fair that I've started this immediately. I'll save the other four required episodes for tomorrow. I may still also try to get in some Hannibal, but looking at the votes there's probably not much point beyond simply seeing if that show is for me. Stupid South Park.

Watched the next two of Hemlock. Liked those less but i still don't hate it. One more of Queer As Folk before i can vote.

Miss Vicky

Watching episode two of Derek.

A character just farted very loudly and then announced that he shat himself. I don't know if I'm going to make it through another three episodes of this in order to vote.

:rotfl: . Is that Season 1? Don't remember that. Sounds more like Joe Wilkinsons character who doesn't appear to Season 2 i think.

Miss Vicky
09-09-16, 02:27 PM
Yes, season one episode two. It happens in the first few minutes.

I haven't laughed at anything in this show yet. I may not be enamored with Ash Vs. Evil Dead, but this is awful.

Camo
09-09-16, 02:29 PM
Well it's actually great but it's no surprise that you're wrong :p. I find it really funny more so than The Office (UK) and it is surprisingly touching and sad as Cosmic said.

Was it Karl Pilkington (the janitor guy with the weird hair) that shat himself? Or was it one of the old people?

Miss Vicky

Was it Karl Pilkington (the janitor guy with the weird hair) that shat himself? Or was it one of the old people?

Neither. It was Kev.

Camo
09-09-16, 02:33 PM
haha. RIght, i forgot about him. Wasn't a big fan of him personally, Joe WIlkinsons character was his even filthier brother so i'm sure you could guess why i'd think it was him.

CosmicRunaway
09-09-16, 02:43 PM
Kev never grew on me. He was just an unpleasant character that I didn't find funny. The show itself did grow on me though, to the point where I didn't watch the last episode of season one because my room mates came home after I finished episode 5 and I was afraid I'd cry or something . I doubt I would've, but a few episodes were really touching, and I did get a little teary-eyed at moments.

Camo
09-09-16, 02:54 PM
There's one episode that is extremely sad. Think it is the Season 2 Finale but i can't remember. It is on the day of a funeral i remember that and it is just people talking about Dereks happy outlook on life and stuff, there's no proper jokes in that episode if i remember it right. Man, it was great but it felt so weird being in a Gervais show. It was basically an episode full of all of the sad stuff in Derek.

Miss Vicky

After the first episode I stopped seeing it as a comedy, and more as just a drama with some comedic moments. I enjoyed it a lot more when I wasn't expecting to laugh at it so often.

Camo
09-09-16, 03:08 PM
I think it gets less funny as it goes on but it is intentional since they focus on the drama more. Obviously MV doesn't find it funny right now though so she is never going to.

Miss Vicky

The one that's there because she stole shoes and then started bonding with the residents by painting their nails? Yeah. Her name's Victoria.

After the first episode I stopped seeing it as a comedy, and more as just a drama with some comedic moments. I enjoyed it a lot more when I wasn't expecting to laugh at it so often.

If I have to stop seeing something as the genre it's supposed to be, there's something very wrong. I might've enjoyed it had they gone a purely dramatic route, but the problem is that when it tries to be funny it not only isn't funny but it's painfully unfunny.

Camo
09-09-16, 03:20 PM
If I have to stop seeing something as the genre it's supposed to be, there's something very wrong.

I disagree with this. I just enjoy something because i enjoy it, regardless of genre. If it wasn't intentional, then OK, it was a happy accident. Also Derek is about 50/50 drama and comedy anyway, IMO it eventually strays more into drama. I know you wouldn't like Derek anyway but i just disagree with this when applied to other things.

No, it's 50 drama/50 cringeworthy "jokes." The cringe factor is severe enough that it takes away from my enjoyment of everything else. I expect comedies to have dramatic elements to them and vice versa, but both the comedy and the drama have to work for me to enjoy it.

Camo
09-09-16, 03:32 PM
Yeah, that's fine for your opinion of this particular show. I meant overall that a show/movie can fail at something it is supposed to do while still being enjoyable because it does something else well.

09-09-16, 03:41 PM
Yeah, that's fine for your opinion of this particular show. I meant overall that a show/movie can fail at something it is supposed to do while still being enjoyable because it does something else well.

Give an example.

The only things coming to my mind are things that are so-bad-they're-good because they're unintentionally funny.

Camo

Give an example.

The only things coming to my mind are things that are so-bad-they're-good because they're unintentionally funny.

Plenty of episodes of The Simpsons. I personally think Lisa's Substitute is one of the best episodes of the show even though i don't find the jokes funny, i think the dramatic aspects were pulled off perfectly though. Raging Abe, Mother Simpson, Homer vs Lisa.., etc, i also find the same.

That was the first thing that came to mind if you meant a show/movie that is overall this way then i'll give you some examples because my mind dies when i'm put on the spot haha.

Unintentionally funny things don't count obviously because we were talking about something aiming for two things and failing at one but doing the other that well that it is still enjoyable. I'll agree with you in that i think a comedy/drama not being funny would be a bigger problem than the other way round though.

Ash Vs Evil Dead vs Derek

Camo
09-09-16, 04:03 PM
That's 4-2 Ash then. Unless Daniel or someone else is planning on watching those this round i'm not sure if i'll watch Ash Vs Evil Dead then. It would've mostly been to save Derek if i liked Ash less of course.

Miss Vicky
09-09-16, 04:17 PM
I'm not crazy about Ash, TBH.

I wanted to love it because I love Bruce Campbell and Army of Darkness but I felt the focus was too much on the horror aspect. Also some of the comedy it did have fell flat. My vote is by no means an enthusiastic one.

Camo

Miss Vicky
09-09-16, 04:40 PM
Not really.

I might give Hannibal a shot at some point, but that match is 5 to 1 in favor of South Park so there's no point keeping it open. The rest of the matches would require me to watch both shows and none of them really interest me.

I was planning on watching the Dukes of Hazard tonight/tomorrow to vote in that first match-up, but it's 7-2 for the show I have seen, so I think I'll just sit this one out.

I really want to watch the other 4 episodes of Stranger Things (I've only seen one more since voting), so whether or not I get around to watching Father Ted and Starsky and Hutch this weekend is completely in that show's hands haha.

I only missed one match-up last tournament. So if I don't vote in both of these, I'll already be a much worse participant than I was before. And this is only the first set.

Ash Vs Evil Dead - Monno vs Derek - Daniel

Stranger Things - Mistique vs Under The Dome? - Topsy

I had just seen season 1 when i nominated it and really like it,but it just got silly and too teen-ish as it went on.

Hemlock Grove - Topsy vs Queer As Folk (US) - Miss Vicky
i used to watch this and the l word at the same time, the l word is one of my fave shows but queer just didnt stick. its been awhile though so ill re-watch a few episodes.

I watched the entire first season of "Hannibal", and I actually liked the show, but I gave it up because it was too graphic for me. (I eventually figured out when I needed to look away from the screen for a few seconds, or at least look at the screen through my fingers.)

Father Ted - Rodent vs Starksy and Hutch - Chypmunk
As I already said, I couldn't get into Father Ted. I didn't find it that funny, and the audience just got on my nerves. Audiences and laugh tracks are one of the main reasons why I don't like very many sitcoms, particularly older ones. I do enjoy buddy cop movies and tv shows though, so Starsky and Hutch was unsurprisingly much more enjoyable for me. I'll probably watch more episodes, but more likely as something to put on while I'm eating or doing something else, and not something I'd sit down just to watch. I already said this, but I kind of wish I had seen this when I was younger so that it held some nostalgia value.

CosmicRunaway

I don't think I've seen enough of any of the shows. I know I've seen bits and pieces of Three's Company and The A Team, but it's been many years and I don't know if I've even seen one whole episode of either. None of them really interest me, but maybe... don't hold your breath though.

Danger Mouse is charming, and is the type of old cartoon I like to see every now and then... but One Punch Man is a whole bunches of fun.

About to watch the first ep of Three's Company.

Camo
09-12-16, 12:19 AM
Watched it i liked it quite a bit. It was so 80's, i felt like i had heard every joke before but i still found it entertaining. All of the characters have potential i think, i liked the ditzy blonde best from this episode. Got a feeling it will get better from here since they've set up what the show is about. Will watch more tomorrow.

Also i'm just going to vote in this match because if i leave it longer i'll never decide.

The Leftovers - Topsy vs The Night Of - Tugg

Sorry Topsy. Very tough choice for me. It was weird and annoying that these too went up against each other. Started watching both a few weeks back. I went for The Night Of becuase i've seen all of it so i know it doesn't fall in quality. Glad that one of them will be going through at least.

I need to watch Rosemary & Thyme, Masters of Science Fiction (looking forward to it though!), ER (maybe, I get all those shows mixed up), The Leftovers, The Night Of, Fargo, One Punch Man, Ripping Yarns, Planet Earth, and Hajime No Ippo.

I also don't remember Three's Company at all, so I should probably watch that. I will definitely be prioritising shows that are in match-ups with those like...2 shows I have seen though.

Trying to watch Fargo, but I'm confused. It said at the start that it was based on a true story that took place in 2006, but how is that possible if the movie the show is based on came out in 1996? Did the movie say something similar at the start? I haven't seen it.

Camo

The movie said it was based on a true story at the start but it was BS. The show is referencing that basically.

Yes I have seen the other I live in a house of BBC worshipers and if its not BBC its something simular too something my sister would watch painfully so.

2 Vikings
Have Seen Masters Of Science and I Liked it alright but people really gotta watch Vikings if you like Game Of thrones violence without the politics.

3 ER- I watched This Relgiously.

4 Leftovers

5 Almost Human

Thats all I can do for while have seen Threes Company and Dangermouse I have no desire too watch the others just so can vote. Its not knowledge I need.

Which one are your priorities?
I don't know why I didn't see this earlier when I asked about Fargo.

Fargo is one, obviously haha. Masters of Science Fiction is next on my list. I have actually seen the required episodes of ER, but I want to try and watch a few episodes before voting anyway, because it's been about a decade, and all those medical dramas blend together in my mind (except House, I never mix that one up with anything else). That'll let me vote in 3 of the match-ups.

I'll probably do Hajime no Ippo after that, but I'm not a fan of anime or boxing, so it'll have to really impress me to get a vote over Extras (which I really like). Like ER, ideally I'd like to rewatch some Three's Company so it's fresh in my mind for voting in that match as well.

Camo

Watched the next two of Three's Company. Think i was right it is continuing to improve. The site i'm watching the episodes on have them mixed up, as the third one i watched was It's Only Money instead of Roper's Niece. It wasn't a problem though as far as i'm aware there was no major changes that could hurt my enjoyment in the episodes i missed.I only realized half way through, i thought it might turn out that his niece had came in and picked up the money for him. After a while it became clear i was watching the wrong episode and i had to look it up to make sure i wasn't watching Season 4 or something, thankfully it was only three episodes. That's the one i've liked best so far. Was cracking up when Jack was pretending he was with other guys when he thought someone had broke into the house. "Ron, Dave, you wait out here, and be careful with those shotguns." I was a bit iffy on the landlords in the first episode but i liked them more in these episodes. I especially came to like Mrs Roper even though all her jokes are basically the same. Still Frank in Everybody Loves Raymond usually makes the same type of jokes and i love him.

Anyway, will watch two more later before voting.

Camo
09-12-16, 02:08 PM

Same again the episodes are mixed up, i actually watched Jack The Giant Killer which is Episode 5 instead of Episode 4, then instead of Episode 5 i watched No Children, No Dogs which is episode 4  So trying to watch the first five episodes i managed to watch 1>2>6>5>4 :D Liked both of them though.

Good show. It's a shame it went up against two of my favourites or i may have voted for it, might watch some more of it when i get the chance. Sticking with Ippo, i suspect it will only get my vote, it's fine though as i like all three,

Hard to top Vikings,sorry MonnoM

ER - Sean vs Brooklyn Nine-Nine - Cosmic

The Leftovers - Topsy vs The Night Of - Tugg

Almost Human - Cosmic vs Fargo - Tugg

I honestly can't think of a single show with better character development than this show. The boxing might be repetitive but the characters grow tremendously throughout, much more and much more naturally than any show i've ever seen and i think i'm one of the people here who has watched quite a lot of TV.

Amazing show.

I still have to watch the fifth episode of Hajime no Ippo, but so far it's much more enjoyable than I was expecting. It still has a few elements common to many anime series that I don't find very appealing (such as close ups of super dramatic reactions held for an unnecessarily long period of time, and everyone standing around just watching while characters have inner monologues), but it's still pretty entertaining, despite the fact that I couldn't care less about boxing.

I didn't expect to find that series more enjoyable that Masters of Science Fiction. Being an anthology series, I knew Masters of Sci Fi was likely going to be a bit uneven, but I was still looking forward to it. The first episode I thought was dull, but it got a bit more interesting towards the end. The second episode started really strong, but lost steam around the halfway point and ended up being a bit boring. So I was hoping the third episode would be more even. Instead it was just...kind of weird. I might watch the rest of the episodes before voting though, because I want to give it another chance to impress me.

No Vote: Rosemary & Thyme - Tugg vs The A Team - Cricket
Still need to watch Rosermary & Thyme.

Masters of Science Fiction - Monno vs Vikings - Ned
"Watchbird" is the only epiode of Masters of Sci Fi that I haven't watched, though I probably will later on. The episode "The Discarded" was actually really good, even though the music really took me out of it. Other than that and the first half of "The Awakening", the other episodes were just too flat or uninteresting for me to really give this a vote over Vikings, which is a show I actually really like. The start of Vikings isn't that good, and that whole Paris plot last season went on too long, but overall I really like the show. I'd probably even vote for it over something similar, like Game of Thrones.

ER - Sean vs Brooklyn Nine-Nine - Cosmic
I don't really understand the popularity of ER. It lasted 15 seasons, so it had to be doing something right, but I'm just not a fan of medical dramas. They make me think of my nan, who loves watching that stuff (mostly General Hospital though). Brooklyn Nine-Nine is way more my speed. I like almost every character, and it's pretty damn hilarious at times. It's one of my favourite shows.

No Vote: The Leftovers - Topsy vs The Night Of - Tugg
Haven't seen either. Will try to watch soon.

Almost Human - Cosmic vs Fargo - Tugg
I've never seen Fargo (the movie). I've had plenty of opportunities to see it over the years, but I never bothered. Not sure if that would affect my understanding or enjoyment of the show, which as of right now I can't decide whether I like it or not. Even after a few episodes it's still strange to hear Martin Freeman speaking like that. It was really boring at times, but then something interesting would happen that would catch my attention, but then things would slow to a crawl again right after. The "doomed the minute it was announced on Fox" show Almost Human was unsurprisingly cancelled before it got really good, but what we got was still very enjoyable. I'm a huge fan of both the buddy cop set-up and Karl Urban though, so colour me a little bias.

No Vote: One Punch Man - Justin vs Danger Mouse - Chyp
I've seen Danger Mouse (as long as we're talking the 80s cartoon and not the remake that I just learned existed). Will probably watch One Punch Man.

No Vote: Ripping Yarns - Chypmunk vs Fawlty Towers - Rodent vs Planet Earth - Justin
I'm working on Ripping Yarns and Planet Earth now.

Three's Company - Cricket vs Hajime no Ippo - Camo vs Extras - Daniel
I've already said what I think of Hajime no Ippo, so I won't repeat it here. Out of the 80s sitcoms, Three's Company is one of the better ones. If this match was between just that show and Hajime no Ippo, this would be a tough decision because they're both solid series. However I really like Extras, more than the other two combined, so this wasn't really any contest. That chubby little loser, no, not not chubby little loser...the pathetic little fat man who no one really laughs at* is really great in it.

*-paraphrased from David Bowie's song from that one episode he was in.

Glad you liked Ippo at least. Added your scores as well as mine for Planet Earth since i watched two more of Ripping Yarns. Love both Fawlty and Planet Earth, was hard to decide between them, in the end i went for the latter mostly because Fawlty was nominated last game and if i remember right it made it really far like the Semi's or something.

Not sure what else i'm going to watch as there's no shows left in this set i'm really passionate about or have been dying to see.

CosmicRunaway
09-16-16, 07:35 PM
I can decide easily between Ripping Yarns and Fawlty Towers, but after I watch some more Planet Earth I have no idea which way I'm going to be voting. This might be the oddest match-up so far.

Camo
09-16-16, 07:44 PM
Planet Earth is so amazing. It is one of the best things i've ever seen certainly, but so are most of those big budget BBC NaturePorns. Think The Blue Planet is actually my favourite but the caves episode of Planet Earth is probably my favourite nature thing ever. I remember completely forgetting about it in the TV Countdown when it easily could've been my #2 (nothing goes over The Sopranos) if i had.

Completely get you though, Fawlty Towers is one of my favourite shows as well and they are almost impossible to compare. I went for Planet Earth because it wasn't nominated last time because that's the easy way out haha.

Also you have to look at the Planet Earth episode titles and decide which three you think would best suit you. Caves is my favourite personally and i'd recommend it but they are all incredible.

CosmicRunaway
09-16-16, 07:53 PM
I've only watched the first episode so far, but I think I'll take your advice and pick ones relevant to my interests. The Caves episode would probably be a good one for me. I was super excited to see the Bellamar Caves when I was in Cuba, but I've always liked rocks for no apparent reason. That probably makes me sound super boring but I don't care.

Camo
09-16-16, 08:09 PM
Nah, rocks are probably really cool i've just never paid attention to them.

Which other one then if you want to watch caves? Sorry, i'm just really curious what you'll pick haha.

CosmicRunaway
09-16-16, 08:31 PM
There are a lot of exposed rock faces around here, and a lot of local artists incorporate rocks into their art, so that might explain some of my interest in them. Also, crystal formations are super pretty. Continuing with this rock theme, I'll probably watch Mountains as well. Or maybe Fresh Water. Does that include waterfalls? If it does count me in for that one too.

Camo
09-16-16, 08:48 PM
I think it does but i'm not totally sure. I know either the Angel or Victoria Falls are in an episode following it all the way down which is amazing, but i can't remember which one.

Rosemary & Thyme - Tugg vs The A-Team - Cricket
Unfortunately, I didn't find Rosemary & Thyme even remotely engaging. Something about it made it seem like it was a lot older than 2003. The gardens were pretty, but that's about it. I'm not a gardening enthusiast, or a connoisseur of those Murder, She Wrote type shows, so I'm clearly not the target audience here. I was never a huge fan of the A-Team either, but it's definitely way more my style.

No Vote:The Leftovers - Topsy vs The Night Of - Tugg
Since this is currently a tie, I think I'll try and watch these shows instead of One Punch Man.

I have still only seen Danger Mouse.

Ripping Yarns - Chypmunk vs Fawlty Towers - Rodent vs Planet Earth - Justin
Between Ripping Yarns and Fawlty Towers, I like the latter much better. But between Fawlty Towers and Planet Earth? I have no idea how to compare those shows. I was initially going to vote for Fawlty Towers, but I think I'm going to give it to Planet Earth. I don't find the subject matter as interesting as say, that of Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey, but it also doesn't have the things about Cosmos that I disliked (like those weird animated segments).

The Shield

Please forgive the delayed comment. Its too bad Sopranos lost to The Shield, but in my mind more specifically, people might have felt the first 5 episodes were better than Sopranos first 5. That makes more sense. Sopranos was incredibly character driven, and took time to grow. The Shield was a punch to the face from the word Go.

Camo
09-17-16, 05:51 PM

I think you're probably right TONGO. As someone who was new to both series, I ended up watching the first 2 seasons of The Shield, but haven't yet watched another episode of the Sopranos (other than what I saw to vote). I do intend to watch more because I liked what I saw, but it's missing that instant gratification that compels me to see what happens in the next episode. It's a slow burn, and that's perfectly fine, but sometimes I just like flashy things more haha.

Im in the first 2 episodes of season 3, and can tell how the writers maybe had to redo the original story since the actress playing Tonys Mom died. I wonder if Ralphies character was supposed to be in it even? His first appearance is at her wake.

I loved "Almost Human", and I was very upset when it was cancelled after only one season. When it first started, I watched it mainly for Karl Urban, but I loved both him and Michael Ealy in it. You should definitely give it a try when you have time.

I watched most of the first season of "Fargo" mainly because it was being hyped so much that I was curious what I was missing, but I found that I liked it less and less every episode, and I eventually gave up on the show. I never saw the movie, so I don't know if that would have made a difference in my decision about dropping the show or not.

The A Team - Cricket vs Stranger Things - Mistique

(haven't seen A-Team since i was a kid on that awesome channel that always played the 60s Batman and the really weird live action Spiderman show. Still i must have seen at least 30 epiodes then and i remember it well enough to know it wouldn't get my vote against Stranger Things.)

Sherlock - Miss Vicky vs Ash Vs Evil Dead - Monno

(watched one episode of Sherlock which i really liked, haven't seen the other.)

Extras - Daniel vs Hemlock Grove - Topsy

(Hemlock Grove wasn't bad but easy choice.)

Blackadder Goes Fourth - Miss Vicky vs Planet Earth - Justin

(Damn. Really hoped Planet Earth went up against Hemlock or something. Love Goes Fourth and it is my fave Blackadder but i'm not sure anything will get my vote against Planet Earth.)

The Practice - Sean vs Father Ted - Rodent

(Father Ted is one of the few beloved sitcoms over here that i don't love myself. Enjoyed The Practice quite a bit and might watch more of it)

Er - Sean vs Almost Human - Cosmic

(As i said i can't handle medical shows so i won't be voting in this show.)

The Leftovers - Topsy vs One Punch Man - Justin

The A-Team - Cricket vs Stranger Things - Mistique
The A-Team is fine, but Stranger Things is just amazing. I didn't even have to think twice about this.

Sherlock - Miss Vicky vs Ash Vs Evil Dead - Monno
I like Ash vs Evil Dead and will gladly watch the new season, but it's just not in the same league as Sherlock.

Extras - Daniel vs Hemlock Grove - Topsy
I liked Hemlock Grove more than I thought I would after the first episode, but Extras is pretty hilarious, as well as something I could unashamedly watch, haha.

Blackadder Goes Fourth - Miss Vicky vs Planet Earth - Justin
This one required some thought. Like Planet Earth's match-up last round, it and Blackadder 4 are hard to compare. I'm going to vote for Blackadder this time, but I'd be happy to see Planet Earth go through as well.

The Practice - Sean vs Father Ted - Rodent
I wasn't a huge fan of either of these shows, but The Practice was a decent legal drama, whereas Father Ted wasn't very funny for a comedy.

Er - Sean vs Almost Human - Cosmic
ER is way more popular than I expected it to be, so I'm definitely in the minority here, but if I don't vote for my nomination, no one else will haha.

No Vote: The Leftovers - Topsy vs One Punch Man - Justin
I watched 3 episodes of One Punch Man earlier this evening. Will watch 2 more tomorrow so I can vote. Spoilers: I probably would've voted for Danger Mouse last round.

South Park - Camo vs Vikings - Ned
South Park never really clicked with me. Friends of mine love that show, but something about it always just puts me off. Even though Vikings killed off my favourite character awhile ago and has been sort of spinning its wheels since then, I still really like it and look forward to the new episodes.

The Leftovers - Topsy vs One Punch Man - Justin
One Punch Man is just...too much. It's just a parade of nonsensical villain-of-the-week baddies, and with a ridiculously overpowered main character, it removes all sense of danger and tension from the story. Yes, the satire is occasionally pretty funny, but other than that it's just pointless action sequences and monologues. Maybe I would've liked this series if it came out around 2004, but unfortunately it's too far removed from my current taste to make me want to watch more of it. I can see why some people would like it, but it's just really not for me.

Blackadder Goes Fourth vs Planet Earth

Planet Earth is a good show and the cinematography is stunning, but I'm just not real big on documentaries.

Rosemary & Thyme - Tugg vs The A Team - Cricket
Liked both actually..the first one is something my mum would still watch (thats not an insult  ) and the a team is something i would have watched when i was younger

Masters of Science Fiction - Monno vs Vikings - Ned
Hard to top Vikings,sorry MonnoM

ER - Sean vs Brooklyn Nine-Nine - Cosmic
This was more difficult than i thought it would be. really liked brooklyn, i used to watch ER on and off through the years so i assumed that would win by a landslide.

The Leftovers - Topsy vs The Night Of - Tugg

Almost Human - Cosmic vs Fargo - Tugg
used to watch almost human on tv (was it cancelled?) but martin freeman, colin hans,BBT,faargo.

One Punch Man - Justin vs Dangermouse - Chyp

Ripping Yarns - Chypmunk vs Fawlty Towers - Rodent vs Planet Earth - Justin
I actually really liked the first two. but Planet earth is just so grand.

Three's Company - Cricket vs Hajime No Ippo - Camo vs Extras - Daniel
Laughed my head off at extras!
Hajime is funny to me because i used to watch an old japanese anime called silverfang on VHS when i was a kid and it was the scaries ***** id ever seen so i was scared of anime for such a long time

Three shows left to watch.Found a couple this round that i will defo continue to give a try.

I know we`ve moved on,but just for my own peace of mind i wanted to finish the previous set

I watched the first four episodes i thought it was good and i like the premise. I thought it was going to be heavy on sci-fi but it isn't really, it's more about everyone trying to come to terms with what's happened. At least what i watched of it was. Might finish season one soon.
