The Shield vs The Sopranos. It's like asking me to split my baby.
The Shield vs Twin Peaks was pretty much that for me this round. Not going to ever have to think twice on voting for The Sopranos against anything though.
I loved that first season amd a half of Twin Peaks so much. I couldn't even believe how terrible it got to me. I think I still have like 6 episodes left to watch. Maybe someday.
It does drop dramatically i agree but i still like it. Have you seen Fire Walk With Me? That and Inland Empire are the two Lynch films i still have to see.

No, both have been in the que for a while but other stuff gets ahead of them. I am looking forward to Fire Walk With Me. Inland Empire sounds like it will be a chore.
Not sure if it is accurate but i've heard Fire Walk With Me likened to the episodes of Twin Peaks you aren't a fan of so maybe that will be as well. I don't have the slightest clue what Inland Empire is about and it makes me want to see it all the more haha.
Watched Parks and Rec for the first time a few days ago. Real good stuff. Can't vote for it though because I haven't seen The Sopranos.

Parks and Rec - AboveTheClouds vs The Sopranos - Camo
With Mistique's vote putting The Sopranos ahead by two i thought we may as well close this an hour early as i don't see two coming in for Parks and Rec. So the Final is open, it will be closed on 19th August so if you want to watch a few episodes of one or both of them before voting go ahead:

So yeah no surprises what i'm voting for. I'm extremely happy with this final The Shield is one of my favourite shows of all time; i had it at #11 on my top tv shows list, and The Sopranos is my favourite show so i'm happy either way.

Lets tie this thing up. I always call this 1A and 1B for me as far as favorite shows. So obviously seeing them in the finals is awesome. May the best best show win.

The Shield vs The Sopranos
I watched a bit more of both shows last night. I would watch a few more of The Sopranos so that I had seen an even number of each, but I'm just liking The Shield way more. The Sopranos is good too, and I'll continue to watch it, but I don't see me liking it more than The Shield. The guy who created and ran The Shield was also the creator and showrunner for another show I rather liked (The Chicago Code), so there must be something about this style that just really connects with me.

While it was disappointing that The Chicago Code only got one season, I'm more upset that I can't buy it on DVD/BluRay. It wasn't given an official release, and I think Terriers suffered the same fate. They are available on Amazon Digital, but that service is not offered in Canada. :furious:
I hadn't heard about Terriers until last year when I saw Showrunners: The Art of Running a TV Show and Shawn Ryan mentioned it. I did watch the trailer, but have never actually seen any of the episodes.

Sucks? Maybe not. But I never got into it.
It's the series I've given the longest thread of trust, but even after like 8 or more episodes I was still waiting to like it. So yeah, that's how far I got.

That's understandable not everyone likes the same stuff, the reason i said that was because i was almost sure i'd heard you talking positively about it before. And.. why did you vote for it in the TV Countdown then? - http://www.movieforums.com/community/showthread.php?p=1209653#post1209653

Man you're good at digging up stuff.
In all honesty, I have no idea why I voted for it. My guess would be that it was because of how hard it was for me to compile a list of 25 shows and I had basically every series I had ever seen on there... Doesn't explain why I put it above stuff I definitely like more. Hm, guess I saw slight potential and took a chance.
Man you're good at digging up stuff.
I was just pretty sure that i had seen you talk positively about it before. I thought it might of been in that guy with the Frank Booth avatars thread but it wasn't so i tried the TV Countdown thread. You didn't have many posts in that thread so it only took like a minute.

Thought that may have been the case. Fair enough on not enjoying it, but it doesn't suck, you suck for saying it sucks regardless of how half-hearted it was :p

Well too be fare the Movie thing is a bit more complicated then a simple answer about too shows. And who doesnt know what Sopranos is. It was HBO biggest show until Thrones. But I didnt like it because its not my area of tv. The Shield I watched because like cop shows. Is that enough of an answer. If I sound cranky its because well I just am.
The movie thing is not complicated in any way, plus it was explained to you like seven times and i'm still not sure if you completely understand it.

And I now get the movie rules but i am learning disabled and nothing pisses a person off more then to point out what may or may not be simple. I am trying to do these things best I can. The Office is probably my favourite show of all time, well, one of them. Just exactly my type of humour. Extras and Derek are both fantastic too though. For Extras, love all the different cameos and how it feels bigger budget, more adventerous, the fake TV show, the Celebrity Big Brother (amazing how Lionel Blair would later appear in the real one). Then with Derek I think its really heart warming and human, first seasons probably more laugh out loud funny, but second season is probably more moving. I know people seem to be divided on Gervais' performance in it, but I think it's great.

I was going to jokingly say no with a mean face, but I was afraid you'd take it seriously.
There were no problems with you nominating last tournament, so I don't see there being any now. If you're anticipating that someone would accuse you of stacking the match-ups in favour of your own nominations, then maybe just take a screenshot of whatever program you use to randomize the sets.

I don't watch a great deal of tv so prolly won't interact with this much but if you're short of nominations how about these two:
Ripping Yarns
Husky And Starch (aka Starsky And Hutch)
And agreed with everything you said there Daniel. Extras is one of my favourite shows. Derek is brilliant as well and i'm one that thinks Gervais was excellent. I personally liked Derek Season 1 more than 2 mostly because i thought Karl Pilkington was hilarious. I think the most i laughed at the show was when he was talking about his haircut "you know i thought this would've came into style by now" :rotfl:
Thanks Chyp . Never heard of Ripping Yarns.

It has to be Under The Dome right? I left her a profile comment but she hasn't responded yet,
And Miss Vicky you suck.
I'm going to give another 24 hours to nominate. There's no point waiting ages if no one else has interest in nominating. If no one else does then we'll just go for a 32 show tournament and i'll allow whoever is interested to nominate an extra show or two.

You suck more.
Good. I thought you were going to say not as much as South Park or some similar extremely hurtful thing.
YES i meant under the dome,i dont know what the hell happened there
Well not heard anything and it has been about 24 hours. So if anyone wants to pick another show go ahead and we'll just do a 32 show one. I'll post in the shoutbox and chill club one last time just in case.
Put me down for Ash vs. Evil Dead.

I will nominate The Practice and ER.

Too late :(
Thanks Sean . ER will be the only show i definitely won't be watching any episodes from though. I'm sure it is great but i just can't stomach medical shows. Scrubs is about as far as i go haha. I almost didn't watch Breaking Bad because of the Cancer  (a laugh emoticon after Cancer you don't see that every day)
That's 32 but i'll wait and see if tat nominates some. I offered him and hopefully he'll wrap his head around it soon :p if he does i'll just include a couple of 3 show matches again.

I wasn't a religious ER watcher, it went on fooooorever. I love the first few and last few seasons though. Very addicting show.
The Practice was my favorite show for like three years. It got long winded but I love the courtroom drama of the first few years.
I really like legal dramas so i'm looking forward to trying that one.

Yah. Just the same as last time. 1 week per round and if you need any extra just ask me.
I'll put the first matches up once tat answers me. I'd have rather a 64 show one but i can't see us getting 29 more unless certain members take like 10 shows each

There's already so many shows I haven't seen, or haven't even heard of. Don't give those people another 10 shows unless they promise to choose something well known haha.

You were one of those i was talking about haha. But yeah i wouldn't do that. There's no point in forcing 64 if there isn't enough interest for it. Some of us had 6 shows last time and i think that was probably a bit too much.
So yeah tat isn't online and from his comment i don't think he really wanted to join anyway, so i'll post the first set soon. If tat wants to join later i'll just add an extra 3 match show to the second set.
Round 1 Set 1
The Dukes of Hazard - Cricket vs Blackadder Goes Fourth - Miss Vicky
South Park - Camo vs Hannibal - Cosmic
Ash Vs Evil Dead - Monno vs Derek - Daniel
Criminal Minds - Mistique vs The Practice - Sean

You can vote for some now and some later, and you don't have to watch anything unless you want to vote in a particular match obviously.
South Park - Camo vs Hannibal - Cosmic

This is the only match I can vote in atm.
Just a reminder to anyone not familiar with Blackadder: The one I've nominated this time is set during World War I. So if what you're watching (or have already seen) is set during Medieval Times, the Renaissance/Elizabethan Era, or during the British Regency, it's the wrong show.

I haven't read many of Stephen King's book myself, but my mom has every one of them. She's a huge fan. Oddly I never read any of hers; I bought a couple of cheap paperbacks when I moved out like a decade ago. Where she lives there isn't really any place to buy new books, so I always pick up his new ones and send them out to her.
I feel like I should read more of them though. I'm just not a big reader.
I've only read IT. It is like 1200 pages, but it was good.
Got the scores up so far. Good start for South Park but i imagine when/if MV watches Hannibal it will have an extra vote and quite a few people hate it on the site so i wouldn't worry ;)

I tried watching an episode of The L Word (many years ago) but couldn't get into it. I suppose that's not surprising though, considering the scenes with Lindsay and Melanie were my least favorite part of QAF. Well, okay, Hunter was my least favorite part of QAF, but the lesbian scenes were a close second.

I honestly think you might like Hannibal, MV.
Oh and just ask me if you need more time to watch anything.
I'm going to watch 4 episodes of "The Practice", followed by 5 episodes of "Criminal Minds". If some of you can recommend best episodes of either series, I might watch those in addition to already selected ones.
You only have to watch 3 of each to vote Tugg. Unless that is just how much you want to watch before voting.
Listen to the nominator before me of course but i'd suggest watching Criminal Minds from the start. Mandy Patinkin was the best thing about the show and he left in Season 2? I can't remember pretty early anyway.

Had to look up Charlie Hunnam because that name didn't ring a bell at all. Turns out he was in the UK version of QAF, not the US version that I nominated.
I watched both seasons of the UK version and didn't care for it. The guys in the US version are way hotter.
In my search to help out Vicky I've discovered that the show's been cancelled. What?! I'm legitimately bummed right now.
Considering that I don't think many of you will be able to watch it, should I just change it to something else?
I knew Charlie Hunnam from Green Street first so i was pretty baffled seeing him as an American in Sons of Anarchy at first. Great show though and i think Jax was probably my favourite character, well i maybe liked Tig better at times but that was mostly because he was the funniest.

Hey, the English do the same thing with some American shows.
In any case, the UK version lasted only two seasons while the American version lasted five. The first few episodes of the American version borrow pretty heavily from the UK one, but it becomes very much its own show pretty quickly.

They were all despicable certainly but i personally need to get on at least a few characters sides to enjoy the show. The Sopranos and Sons of Anarchy are good examples of show that i despise the characters actions but i can like them themselves.
Think that is a lot more important to me in TV Shows than movies since you are most likely spending a lot more time with the characters. I get what you are saying though and it's understandable.
Hey, the English do the same thing with some American shows.
Not really to the same extent though. I don't think it is a bad thing personally. I probably won't watch it if i already liked the UK one but i think it is fine to recreate a show for audiences that may not be able to get into the accents or whatever. Also there has been a few successes like the US Shameless.

I know it's not the same extent, that's why I said "some." ;)
I first started watching Queer As Folk back in 2002, after seeing and loving Hal Sparks on VH1's I Love the 80's. I didn't have Showtime so I went to Blockbuster video and rented the first two seasons. I was immediately hooked but, again, didn't have Showtime so I kept waiting for each new season to come out on DVD and then bought it and binge watched it. I had no idea there was UK version until I'd seen like the first three seasons of the US one.
Not only did I love the show (the Amercian version, anyway), but it turned out to be good resource material for that thing you're supposed to be reading. :D

Yeah i understand that, and agree actually- but i guess they were all likable and unlikable in turns
Gemma you had times were you were rooting for her and times where she was just a mental b!tch
Jax was obviously made to be a bit more likable since the show is about him but he was mummys boy and terrible husband/father same with opie-apart from the mummys boy,but he didnt seem to have mind of his own outside the club
Tig was funny but still not a good person and the same kind of goes for the rest of them aswell.
I really liked Juice for awhile but he just cried way too much the last seasons
Also I had some trouble with some of the storylines that didnt make sense characterwise but happened just to get the story going
Like Tara telling Unser about her plans
Yah, i agree with most of that Topsy. Think Tara was the closest to an actual likeable character on the show but she had her problems as well obviously.
Halfsack was probably the samcro member who was the most likeable actually and he turned out to be an awful human being irl.

I find it really hard - no, impossible - to believe that NedStark watched at least three full episodes of the American Queer As Folk, particularly given the comments he's made about homosexuals in other threads.

I'm not mad, I simply don't believe you.
I don't believe that someone who "doesn't understand" gays would voluntarily sit through at least three hours worth of a show that features some pretty graphic gay sex scenes.
Vikings if thats taken Farscape.
Cool, added. I watched the first two episodes of it a few months back and quite liked it but not enough to continue through the 4 seasons or whatever it has so far.
Vikings i mean.
oh wowreally,ned? :/
also, just so you know viking is not available on hbo atm.it is on youtube where theyve made the screen smaller though
Not sure Miss Vicky but i think One Punch Man might be a dark horse with you. It is mostly taking the piss out of anime shows, I personally find it really funny which may not be a good sign, but yeah it isn't your typical anime.

Why did you ask me a question then answer it yourself in said question?
And no i'll take your vote. No take-backsies.

So did Monno change his nominations? Is Sherlock still up against Raised by Wolves, or one of the new ones he mentioned?
No, it's still Raised By Wolves.
And thanks Christine and Chyp
