Northern Exposure, Utopia, Still Game, and My Mad Fat Diary.

Even though I have watched a few episodes of Deadliest Catch, I'm glad Northern Exposure is not one of those shows haha. Watched a trailer for Utopia. It didn't give away much about the series, but looks super weird so that might be interesting.

Thanks for pointing out that Still Game was on youtube. (:

Not seen it but i'm sure i've heard Norther Exposure is pretty weird as well. I'm not sure if it is that or something else i've seen compared to Twin Peaks. And yeah Utopia is nuts, it is really good though. David Fincher is signed on to direct a US version.

No problem. Hope you like it , as i said i'm doubtful anyone will.

I have seen some, maybe even the prerequisite. It has been since the show started though and I can't be sure. Plus I really want to watch it.

The first season is amazing. One of my favourite seasons of any show.

Well that's up to you. I did the latter for The Simpsons but that was because i watched at least 100 crappy later episodes of the show that it pisses me off overall.

I love Season 7, and i like Seasons 5 and 6 of Dexter more than most so to me it is still very good overall. Season 8 though

I can vote in the Roseanne-Sunny match-up, and will. Let's be honest though, who gives a flip about those? Half kidding, I like the first couple seasons of Roseanne.

I love it, and by love it i mean it is one of my favourite ever shows. It is heavily flawed throughout though, yes, even during the first four that most people usually say are good. I wouldn't be surprised if anyone really hated the show even.

TONGO dropped out so i took his three shows that aren't in a match out. I gave a spot to JJ and SC, so anyone who hasn't nominated one can pick the third,

Here is SC's pick:

Mama's Family (seasons 3-6, NOT 1 & 2)

I obviously can't enforce how anyone watches this but i'm going to do what SC says and i hope everyone else will.

I don't like seasons 1 & 2 as much as 3 through 6. 1 & 2 have different characters and they're not as good.

Sexy Celebrity
06-17-16, 09:44 PM
And I wanna add one more:

Inspector Gadget

The 1980's version. Not the 2015 remake. And preferably Season 1.

And you CANNOT watch the pilot episode of Inspector Gadget. Season 1, Episode 1.

Horrendous. Different voice actors, Gadget has a mustache, it's awful. But everything after that is okay. I recommend Season 1, Episode 6, "Health Spa." And Season 1, Episode 10, "A Star is Lost."

As i said i accidentally posted SC's nom in my top 50, i've messaged Yoda so hopefully he'll move the posts over here when he is on.

Here is the three to replace TONGO's noms:

Aaaaah Real Monsters - JirrafeJustin (i guessed the amount of a's :p)

Inpector Gadget - Sexy Celebrity

Mama's Family - Sexy Celebrity (seasons 3-6, NOT 1 & 2)

Again i can't enforce that but i'm going to watch the ones SC said is best and it would be good if everyone else did too, it's up to the individual though.

Mama's Family seasons 1 & 2 are not as good as 3 through 6. Different characters.

Inspector Gadget -- the '80s version (1983). Preferably Season 1. NOT the pilot episode. I recommend Season 1, Episode 6, "Health Spa" and Season 1, Episode 10, "A Star is Lost." Youtube.

Wait, is that for this round? Also I thought TONGO only had 2? Edit: Nevermind, I just read the post in the other thread where you explained it.

Out of these show the only one I know is Inspector Gadget, assuming there isn't a more recent version than the one from the 80s that I'm unaware of. Real Monsters does sound vaguely familiar, but I've certainly never seen it. Never heard of the last one.

My answer to that is complicated and even more complicated right now when I'm going around the forum posting things from Edward Scissorhands and I don't even know why.

Roseanne is just definitely better. I have seen both shows -- I know Roseanne better -- I've seen quite a bit of It's Always Sunny... and liked it at one time... but... as Roseanne would probably say, JUST TAKE MY ROSEANNE VOTE AND SHUT UP!

Does that mean you don't like it any more? I'm just curious because everyone seems to love that show, but I absolutely hated it when I tried to watch it last year. It might just not be the kind of show for me, which is perfectly fine, but I don't even understand why it's as beloved as it is.

Because everyone I came across online really liked it, I kept watching it hoping it got much much better (like Parks and Rec which had a horrible start but eventually turned out awesome), but it never clicked with me. I think I only had one episode left of season 2, but I just gave up.

I never liked Roseanne either, but I haven't seen it since I was a kid, and it was not the type of show I would've wanted to watch then anyway (or really now for that matter). I'll probably give it another shot before voting in that match-up, but I have a feeling I'll be giving the point to It's Always Sunny despite what I've previously said about it haha.

I'm not exactly sure how I'd feel about it now. I haven't seen it in a couple of years. I do think it's basically stupid, but... I can't say I've never enjoyed it. I like Danny DeVito.

I think you may have to be a certain kind of person to get into it.

Roseanne has always been something I've just automatically liked.
I only ever watched one of those family-based sitcoms if it was on before something else I wanted to watch and I literally had nothing else to do. They just did not appeal to me when I was younger, and for the most part they don't today. I don't have anything against sitcoms in general, but the only ones I liked that focused on a family unit are both very recent (Arrested Development and Modern Family).

I'd certainly understand the older family sitcoms much better now, but I'm not sure if that will equate to actually liking them. Like I said, I'm definitely going to try Roseanne again before voting against it, I just have a strange feeling that I'm not going to like it again.

I love sitcoms. I love shows that last only 30 minutes and don't have to be watched in order. To me, that's true television. Unfortunately, there's not really any good sitcoms these days... that I know of, at least. I've seen some stuff that's sort of good, but nothing that demanded I continue watching it. I dunno. I can't get into TV much anymore. I hate all those 1 hour long drama shows. TV shows seem like such a source of slavery now -- you HAVE to watch this and that and your friends expect it of you.... it really really gets on my nerves. I hate TV now -- except for maybe news programs. I like journalistic programming.

Sexy Celebrity
06-21-16, 09:15 AM
And one TV show I recently tried watching some of.... and can't get myself to watch more right now..... the US version of The Office.

I was hoping to like it.... it always seemed like I might like it.... and maybe eventually I will.... but so far.... it just seems really, really stupid. Stupid in a bad way, not stupid in an Always Sunny in Philadelphia way.

I never got into either the UK or US versions of the show (or the German knock-off Stromberg). It's odd because I usually find Ricky Gervais to be quite funny, and it's not like I hate Steve Carell or anything. He was funny on the Daily Show and I rather liked him in the Anchorman movies as well. I did only see maybe 2 episodes of each though, so I'll be rewatching them sometime this week, and hopefully at least one of them will click with me this second time around.

I love shows that last only 30 minutes and don't have to be watched in order. To me, that's true television.
I do miss having half hour long tv shows to watch, but I prefer there to be an actual connecting story as opposed to random stand-alone episodes, because without an over arching plot to tie all the episodes together, they're sort of meaningless. When the status quo has to be returned to normal at the end of every episode so people watching them out of order won't be confused, you know there are no real risks and no major changes are going to happen. To me that's just boring.

I liked it enough to want to watch more of it, laughed quite a few times. Better than Arrested Development so far - although weren't some of the same people involved in directing/producing both?

CosmicRunaway

Weren't some of the same people involved in directing/producing both?
Yes and no. Arrested Development was created and ran by Mitchell Hurwitz (based off an idea Ron Howard had). Community was created by Dan Harmon, who was also the showrunner for the first three seasons, as well as the fifth.

While the showrunner ultimately has more say than directors of individual episodes, the Russo Brothers (together and separately) directed a few episodes of each series.

I voted against it, i used to really like it but i just kind of lost interest and haven't watched it since the first episode of season 4. I do kind of want Breaking Bad to get eliminated at some point because even though i love it i just think it would be a boring winner.

Yeah I didn't like seasons 4 or 5 of Game of Thrones (I nearly stopping watching early in season 5 but luckily it got a little better in the latter half) but I've really been liking season 6.

I never watched Breaking Bad when it was new, despite all the hype about it. It just wasn't appealing enough to me. Last year I finally decided to give it a chance while looking for something to watch on Netflix, and I really liked it. I basically binge watched the entire thing in a fairly short period of time then bought all the DVDs. However I do agree that it would probably be a boring winner. I'd still like to see it do fairly well though. It does deserve to stick around longer than a Canadian version of the show.

I've been watching quite a few shows for this round, but my progress has been slowed somewhat because I keep watching more iZombie instead haha.

I'm not sure what I was expecting from Homeland, but despite a first episode that didn't grab me, I rather liked episodes 2 and 3. At the start, it was like a parade of actors I know from other things. Mandy Patinkin, Morena Baccarin, Ray #1 from Due South, Michael McKean. I wonder how many other people I'll recognize if I keep watching this haha. I was kind of expecting to hate it, because I've always disliked Damian Lewis. I think it's because he reminds me of David Caruso, even though they don't look that similar. But I'm actually rather intrigued by Homeland. May have to watch some more episodes at a later date.

I was also surprised by My Mad Fat Diary. I hadn't even heard of the show going in, and despite it being too much about teenage drama, it was actually pretty entertaining. I still have one episode of Utopia to watch, but I'm still not quite sure what to make of it yet. I do really like the colours though.

Northern Exporsure on the other hand is just not my cup of tea. I felt bad for the main character at the start, but once he made that first phone call in episode 1, I immediately started to hate him. He was then an unlikeable prick for the rest of the episode, and didn't get much better in the following two.

It was nice to see Billy Boyd in episode 2 of Still Game. That show's also fairly entertaining, but I probably won't watch more than the couple episodes I have left. Still have The Wire and Deadwood to watch, as well as rewatch some episodes of Roseanne (to be fair), and both of The Offices. Oh, and also Dexter. Okay, maybe I'm not as far along as I thought I was haha.

the wire is one of my favourite shows aswell,it seemed to get alot of attention when it got "re-realised" on HBO but then it kinda died down-which is fair enough since its an old show and nobody is promoting it but i wish more would acknowledge it. also i love dominic west-just been watching him on the affair aswell.

Think some would need to have subtitles to understand it and i know some wouldn't be able to find it subtitles. Still Game isn't as heavy but i'm surprised if you didn't have any problems. Unless you found them subtitled then disregard all of that haha.

The Wire is pretty hard for some to get into which i understand. I was hooked from the first episode, but i can see why some find it pretty difficult at first so they drop it early on. Omar is very important i feel since he brings a lot of excitement. He isn't my favourite character but i understand why he is so popular, he really stands out in a show which despite its subject mattter is pretty sombre throughout. Love Dominick too, McNulty is my favourite character, think i had him 7th or 8th in my favourite tv characters list. Stringer Bell then Omar would follow. Couldn't get into The Affair though, watched the first two episodes i thought it was very well acted but there was something that turned me off about it.

Glad you are still watching Deadwood. You should post what you think of it when you are finished in the TV Tab or one of the Deadwood threads.

Yes as soon as id watched for a few mintures though lol just had to get into it  i think maybe when english isnt your first language you`re a bit more adaptable-there are several norwegian accents i dont understand though  though there were of course pieces here and there that i didnt get but still got the gist of the sentence

i loved omar-hah,i loved that they made him so dimensional-not to mention gay. i dont think theres alot of gay hood gangsters on tv,nor movies for that matter
I found the stringer bell storyline to be one of the most entertaining one! i wanted him dead, but at the same time not because i knew the show wouldnt be as entertaining if it happened.
I completely understand why people dont like the affair,i only kept watching because it got so much praise in the media so i figured it must get better  its fairly slow and almost all of the characters behave or have done something that could make them unlikeable...also i wouldnt pick her over his wife lol..it does get a bit better in season 2 though but its nowhere to find on my favourite tv shows list to put it that way.

I definitly will :D

What do you think of this Topsy? I mean can you understand this fine? Hopefully you don't know French since there's French subtitles for some reason.

! i wanted him dead, but at the same time not because i knew the show wouldnt be as entertaining if it happened.

Why did you want Stringer dead? Just curious because i think the show went out of its way to make Stringer like Omar, someone you could support despite them both being criminals, Avon and Marlo were the two main villains i always felt.

its fairly slow

I love certain slow shows. Rectify is the slowest show i've ever watched probably but i love it. Hopefully you can find it to watch when it comes up in this tournament.

also i wouldnt pick her over his wife

I would after watching Luther haha. From what i saw it was more about his disconnect from his mundane family life and her seeming like something exciting rather than a physical attraction, of course that is part of it but i don't think that was the main reason or it would be a pretty boring and pointless show. Then again i've only watched 2 episodes so you obviously know more than me and i may be wrong.

well i have to concentrate more than the average english speaking film lol but i think its fine! lol no worries, apart from that one line in that lady marmelade song i cant speak french  I hope you nominate, because that looks exactly like the kind of movies i love. Im going to watch it regardless actually-just found the whole thing on youtube.

Youre right, they did try to make him likable-but that was after awhile wasnt it-when he was taking care of the girlfriend of the guy he had murdered? for me he was the one big villain-its been a long time since i saw it though-back when it was on telly.

i dont mind slow either when theres a good enough plot.but i did think something was missing. however you`d prob like season 2 more-there are awhole lot more to the storyline and subplots-but some of them are just ridiculous.
Yeah youre right, but im thinking in terms of likability. its hard for me to like him or feel sympathatic when hes wife was so much lovelier than the two combined-in theory i could see that being a good add to the story as thats just what happenes sometimes and it makes it even harder but i just didnt like it very much. also he seems very cold towards her.

I hope you nominate, because that looks exactly like the kind of movies i love. Im going to watch it regardless actually-just found the whole thing on youtube.

I nominated something else for the reasons i said, so glad you are watching this though :up;. I've got Cricket, Zotis and Miss Vicky to watch it and they all really liked it. Christine and Honeykid like it too, i know Honeykid doesn't love it or anything but he has said that it is a good film if i am remembering correctly. While watching the trailer to see how heavy the slang in the clips they used were i actually thought this may be something Topsy likes. I saw the full movie come up when i was looking for the trailer haha. Just hope that you don't have problems understanding it because it isn't easy for people whose first language is English even.

To your spolier, you are right didn't think of that. I didn't dislike him myself because of that but i can see why someone would. What i'd say is that The Wire really drags you into these criminals worlds and makes you think about why they are doing these awful things, and he had D'Angelo killed for perfectly valid reasons in the criminal world. Stringer obviously had contacts in jail and D'Angelo was becoming disillusioned with the criminal life, there was a strong chance he was going to flip. Him being Avon's cousin obviously meant he couldn't take this to Avon since he wouldn't do anything more than likely. I think everything with the girlfriend was genuine, Stringer didn't want to do this he loved Avon he was his best friend he just had no choice, if you remember Stringer went as far as to go to college to learn how to manage the drug trade bettter, he was all about business, nothing personal Avon was more emotional and therefore reckless. What about Avon sending his best friend Stringer to his death because he felt he was getting too powerful? That especially the warm conversation they had about their childhoods when Avon fully knew what was going to happen is the coldest, most brutal thing i've ever seen in anything ever. Avon and Marlo were the villains, both were some special kind of evil which is why they survived i imagine when most of the old guard died at the end.

I think it would've been appropriate for the subtitles on that Sweet Sixteen trailer to be in Québécois instead of "proper" (Parisian) French. Just feels right for some reason.

The Wire is next on my list to watch. A guest lecturer I saw a few times in University (and also at a local sci-fi convention) always found a way to start talking about The Wire, so I'm curious to see what it's like. Well, other than the few clips I saw in his lectures, that is. I know he liked that Omar character I've seen mentioned, however I've only briefly skimmed your exchange so as to avoid spoilers haha.

The short version is that Québécois French is very different from European French.

The long version is: The dialectal differences between the two are very profound, especially when you compare informal Québécois to Parisian French. A French Canadian can easily understand French spoken by someone from France because we're all sort of taught formal French in school (I say "sort of" because they do a very poor job of it), and someone from Québec could likely speak a more formal version to be more easily understood. But the Frenchman would likely be lost with all the idioms and grammatical shorthand found Québécois French.
So I was just remarking on how it would be amusing for French viewers to have to read and try to understand Québécois subtitles, because it would be similar to the differences between say, someone from Texas trying to understand that Glaswegian accent.

I didn't have any trouble with that trailer. The outport communities here have a variety of very strange, and difficult to understand dialects of English, so no accent really sounds too odd to me. Once you get used to people saying things like "Eh b'y, whad'ya at? Lard tunderin', I's gutfounded. Fire up a scoff, luh!", everything else kind of sounds normal in comparison haha.

Watched the fifth episode of Roseanne, as i said i like it fine but It's Always Sunny is one of my favourite shows.

It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia vs Roseanne

Will watch some of My Mad Fat Diary next to vote in that match. I actually caught about 15 minutes of an episode once it looked like it could be good but it was the 5th episode or something so i was a bit lost and just turned it off.

The only other match i haven't voted in is the Nortern Exposure - In The Flesh one. I've seen nothing of either of those shows.

You're correct, Camo. While I didn't love it, I did like it and think it was a good film. I'd certainly recommend it to anyone who likes this kind of modern social drama. I'd recommend Ken Loach films to anyone who likes this kind of thing. Mike Leigh, too, to a slightly lesser extent.

Ruth Wilson is extremely attractive, though I know that she's what my mum would refer to as "one of your weird women" :D Sexy since Suburban Shootout, though.

JJ has finished voting and TN is only watching Narcos to vote in that match. Not sure about MV yet will message her so i'm closing these matches:

Fawlty Towers 5 vs I Zombie 2

Spartacus 3 vs Sister Sister 1

Life on Mars 2 vs Arrested Development 4

Mad Men 4 vs The Increasingly Poor Decision of Todd Margaret 3

MV has already voted on the Mad Men match and she is the only one who may be still watching matches that's why that one is closed. The rest were closed because MV's vote wouldn't have changed anything.

These are still open:

Narcos 4 vs Game of Thrones 5

Supernatural 1 vs You, Me and the Apocalypse 2

The Supernatural match is more than likely closed though i just need MV to confirm she won't be watching some from both shows before i do.

MV brought it to my attention that she had already voted for Game of Thrones, she edited her post. I'm going to ask that in the future people just post their updates in the thread instead of editing their posts i should have said this earlier but i forgot.

So one of these is overblown, extremely violent and filled with more characters than you keep track of who is who, none of whom are exactly the good guys - and the other one is Game of Thrones ;)

Narcos looked glossy and well produced, but Game of Thrones had more entertainment value to me. I've only seen the first series of GoT, but I enjoyed that.

I have edited the current set into the bottom of the first post in this thread. I've had to go back more than once to find the matches myself so i'll keep doing that if i remember.

Going to try and watch the first three episodes of My Mad Fat Diary tonight since it is a 40+ minute show to vote in that match. As it stands right now Futurama has my vote in that match but i have kind of mixed feelings on it sometimes so if i have a strong enough reaction to MMFD it very well may get my vote. Watched most of Futurama not sure if i've seen all of the later episodes. I adore 1-4 but don't like any of the movie anymore or much of the later seasons. Homeland Season 1 i thought was amazing, i thought i had found a new favourite show, the Second Season was still very enjoyable but a big step down and Season 3 was horrible, haven't watched it since then.

CosmicRunaway
06-28-16, 04:41 PM
Wait, there's been that many seasons of Futurama? I stopped watching it a little bit before it got cancelled (or just didn't get renewed, whatever the correct terminology is) the first time, and while I liked it well enough, I certainly didn't bother with it when it came back. Didn't even know there was a movie haha.

Camo
06-28-16, 06:29 PM
There was 4 seasons then it got cancelled then it was revived for 4 movies which were basically 4 episode stories. Those 4 movies are called Season 5. Then it got revived again on Comedy Central instead of Fox for the last two seasons. Some call those 4 Seasons instead of 2 because of the way it aired as Season 6 A and B then Season 7 A and B. So depending on who you ask there was 7 or 9 Seasons. Most confusing show ever :p

I watched the first three episodes of Homeland yesterday, quite enjoyed it and will probably keep watching. I'm still going to vote for my pick (even though the second season doesn't live up to the brilliance of the first).

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia - Daniel M vs Roseanne - Miss Vicky
If Roseanne didn't have a horrendous laugh track it would've gotten my vote by a mile. However as it stands I find it incredibly off-putting and it makes me unable to appreciate any of the show's comedy or writing.

Northern Exposure - Sean vs In the Flesh - Thursday Next
While the first 3 episodes of In the Flesh are a little dull, I really liked the end of episode 3, and then season 2 was much, much better. I was sad earlier this year when it wasn't renewed for a 3rd season, because things got super interesting at the end of the last episode. I thought about nominating this show myself, but didn't think many people would know what it is. As I said before, I found the main character in Northern Exposure to be an unlikeable dick, so it didn't really have a chance against In the Flesh.

No Vote: LOST - Daniel M vs Blackadder II - Miss Vicky
This could've gone either way. I watched a lot of Lost despite the fact that it was never the show I wanted it to be. I stopped watching for awhile, but eventually jumped back in and I don't have any strong opinion about it one way or the other. However I was unable to find a viable way to watch Blackadder II, so unless something changes between now and when this set closes, I won't be voting.

The Office (US) - Sean vs Utopia - CiCi
While I like Ricky Gervais a lot more than Steve Carell, I oddly liked everyone else in the US Office more than the UK one. And even though it wasn't as clever, I actually liked the US version more. Though that's not saying much because I didn't think the UK Office was that great anyway. Utopia, while almost a too quirky, is at least very pretty.

Still Game - Camo vs Dexter - Miss Vicky
Still Game was actually fairly entertaining, but it's not something I would normally watch. I think I would've liked Dexter more if I had given it a second chance before watching Hannibal. It just didn't really grab me, but I'm interested in seeing where it goes so I decided to vote for it, even though it was a close call.

Spaced - Mistique vs The Wire - Fabulous
I like Spaced quite a bit, but when I saw it was up against the Wire, I thought it might be a close call because I've been meaning to check out the Wire for a few years now. Maybe I should've watched it long ago, because I found it rather boring.

The Office (UK) - Daniel M vs Deadwood - TONGO
I had no idea what to expect from Deadwood. Despite having some good cast members, I found the first few episodes of Deadwood to be a bit dull, and most of the time I had no idea what was going on. I probably wouldn't vote for it, but upon rewatching the episodes of the UK Office I'd already seen (as well as a few more), I didn't change my opinion of it so I guess Deadwood wins by default.

My Mad Fat Diary - Thursday Next vs Homeland - TONGO vs Futurama - Derek
My Mad Fat Diary was much better than I thought it would be based on its weird name haha. I was really surprised by how much I liked the first three episodes of Homeland, but I don't see the current premise working over a long term (unless they drag it out a lot), so it'll have to change things up significantly to keep me watching, but I am interested in seeing more. I also rather liked the first couple seasons of Futurama when it was new, so this match up was three pretty decent shows. Hopefully I won't regret voting for Homeland if I keep watching and the series goes downhill, haha.

Mixed feelings. I'm not in love with any of the characters, but the basic story is interesting enough. I'm finding the whole mystery creature/Dr. Moreau feel pretty irritating though and I doubt I'll keep watching.

What Cosmic said. The longer story is that i kind of rushed the nominations so a few missed out. I offered JJ a few noms but he said no since i had started, shortly after both Gideon and tat PM'D me asking if they could nominate. So i offered all three two shows, only Gideon and JJ took them so there is now 68 shows. This set and the next set will both have one 3 show match, and the last set will have 2.

TONGO dropped out as well so i took his three shows that weren't in matches out and gave JJ another show and SC two. That doesn't effect the amount of matches though.

While I didn't mind watching the first 5 episodes of both The Office series too much, I didn't stick around for episode 6 of either. Obviously didn't watch episode 6 of Todd Margaret, since it was painful enough trying to get through the first 5. So it wouldn't really be that weird. Watched the first episode of My Mad Fat Diary, very good nom TN. It was really funny, i don't know why but this really cracked me up:

Rae: You want one? (Blue Riband) Linda: No, i'm on the alphabet diet. Rae: What's that? Linda: You can only eat something beginning with a letter from the alphabet each week. I'm on W. Rae: You mean you've went through the whole alphabet? Linda: No i started on s because i got a load of Scotch Eggs in on the Tuesday.

It is a bit like The Office in that it can be a bit hard to sit through for me at times because of how awkward and cringey it can get. And i imagine it will only get worse. haha. Anyway looking forward to more.

It's no big deal. It even happens to me in real life haha.

Back in high school I was in a Robotics class. We got to make our own year-long groups on day one, and luckily a number of my friends also took the class so we made a group together. Besides myself, there was only one other girl in the class. She was in a group with her boyfriend and a couple of his friends. I don't remember her name since we just called her "Orange" because she occasionally wore a two-piece orange tracksuit to class.

One day halfway through the semester one of the people in my group (who was one of my real friends remember) says: "Man, I can't believe Orange is the only girl in this class". I was sat right next to him. Everyone else in the group looked at me and I was like "Are you forgetting someone?" His response was: "Yeah, but you don't count."

While the laugh track in the first episode of Blackadder II was a bit distracting, it was rather subdued in the following episodes (unlike the one in Roseanne). I'm usually not a fan of Rowan Atkinson, but I rather liked him in this. (:
While Lost is also fine, my problem with it was that whenever something mysterious and interesting popped up, the show would sort of ignore it for a very long time, and too many questions remained unanswered come the series finale.

Survivor vs Parks and Rec

(Only one I can vote on so far, and as much as I love crappy reality TV shows, I much prefer Survivor on this forum  Parks and Rec tends to be hit and miss with me, some episodes I find rather bland and unfunny, but it's produced enough episodes and moments I've really enjoyed for me to put it through here. I adore Amy Poehler as well!)

wore a two-piece orange tracksuit to class.

This is more like my school . :D

Ugh, Screw that guy. Sounds like you aren't a typical girl/guy which is always a great thing, so  for being individual naturally rather than trying to be different for the sake of it which is always the most awkward thing.

It's probably not as fancy as you're thinking. We only dealt with these mechanical Lego pieces and a very basic coding program, not any "proper" robotics. It was offered when I was in Grade 12 and then for one or maybe two years afterwards, then it was scrapped.

My group mostly just played Worms on our computer because we'd get the daily assignments done really quickly, despite having to do everything creatively from scratch because we were the only group without an "ideas"/instruction booklet. Good times haha.

This is more like my school . :D
I forgot to mention that it was a fleece jumpsuit. This was 11 years ago, and it certainly wasn't in style then. I imagine it hasn't come into style since then either. Or at least I hope not. Such a hideous thing to wear.

Ugh, Screw that guy.
I don't think he meant it rudely. It was more so the fact that I was just considered to be "one of the guys" since I've always had interests that are considered to be more masculine (video games, action movies, etc).

I think i respected how well made Hannibal was than i actually liked it because i had no interest after the First Season
I really liked the latter part of the second season; it's definitely my favourite. I absolutely loved how that season ended as well. I actually kind of hated the early season three episodes, but it eventually became more like season two, and once again ended on such a high note for me. I only saw the series at the start of this year, and I binge watched the entire thing in about a week I was so enthralled with it.

It was absolutely beautiful and horrific at the same time. Loved both Hugh Dancy and Mads Mikkelsen in it. It's funny because when they first announced the series, I didn't think it was a good idea. However after watching it, it became one of my favourite tv shows ever.

For this set I only need to watch Eastbound and Down, Nathan For You, Bob's Burgers, and I Claudius. That might still seems like a lot, but it's so much less viewing for me than the last set of match ups haha.

Firefly vs Eastbound and Down - if this is close, I might watch Firefly

King of the Hill vs Seinfeld

The Shield vs Hannibal

Nathan For You vs Inspector Gadget

All In The Family vs Twin Peaks - Probably the toughest decision ever.

Orange Is The New Black vs Daredevil

Survivor vs Parks and Rec

Will definitely vote later.

King of the Hill vs Seinfeld
I'm actually not a fan of either of these shows.

The Shield vs Hannibal
I did really like those few episodes of the Shield I watched, and I will probably continue to watch it, but Hannibal is just top tier for me. I'd easily vote Hannibal over any other show nominated (except maybe Spartacus; that would be a tough decision).

Nathan For You vs Inspector Gadget
May vote later.

All In The Family vs Twin Peaks
Even though I'm not as big a fan of Twin Peaks as most people seem to be, this was not even close. I'm just not a fan of those older sitcoms. I do like a lot about Twin Peaks, and I keep meaning to watch it through again, but I just can't get around to it. Maybe if it wins and gets paired up with something I like, I'll finally go get all the coffee and pie and watch it again.

Orange Is The New Black vs Daredevil
Again, not even close. While Orange is the New Black was fine, I haven't bothered to watch the last season (maybe last two now?). But as a person who doesn't even care for Daredevil as a character, I really liked DeKnight's Daredevil. Charlie Cox was just great. Foggy and Matt's friendship was also great (Avocados at Law!). Vincent D'onofrio was strangely charming. On top of that, the cinematography and fight choreography was simply amazing.

Survivor vs Parks and Rec
I do like Survivor, but I'm not really a fan of all the drama around camp. I stopped watching it on tv many years ago, so I can skip past the things I don't really want to see and just watch the challenges and tribal councils haha. While Parks and Rec started out nearly unwatchable, it got progressively better as it went along. At/near the end of season two when Ben and Chris Traeger were introduced, the show really clicked for me. It's difficult not to think of Chris Traeger whenever the word "literally" comes up in conversation.

Bob's Burgers vs The IT Crowd vs I Claudius
Will definitely vote later.

I've already seen Dexter, and at one time it was one of my favorite shows. I know some people have said they'd watch Still Game, but I haven't been following closely enough to remember who has said that. So, if any votes were pending, my vote might make a difference. I'd still give Still Game a shot though, but a lot of my recent free time has been spent with my younger brother. I'd have to make some time to get to it in order to vote; that's why I asked.

So what happens if there's no one to break the tie? Do we just leave it open until someone comes along to vote, or will both go through?

We'll see once the others in the set have been finished. I'll ask in the shoutbox and chill club and stuff to see if anyone can break the ties. The It's Always Sunny-Roseanne one shouldn't be that big of a problem to find someone who has seen both. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia vs Roseanne

It's up to you if you want to count this vote because it's been several years since I saw "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia", but I watched 3 or 4 episodes of it years ago, (back when everyone was talking about how great the show was, so it piqued my curiosity). I didn't like it, so I stopped watching it back then.

However "Roseanne" was a great show that I watched for the entire run, and I loved most of it, (until they won the lottery, and the show got kind of dumb).

That's why I added that information. I wanted you to know that I probably didn't give it the fair chance that you wanted it to get, but I did watch a few episodes several years ago.

I'm not sure what season I watched because it had already been on for a year or two before I heard about it, so I just tuned it whenever it aired next. I had heard so many good reviews of the show that I was curious about it, but after watching a few episodes, I just didn't understand what all the hype was about. It didn't do anything for me, so I gave up after a few episodes.

And I knew it was one of those cable channels that airs their own original shows, TBS, TNT, FX, etc. They all blend together in my mind.

I still have to watch I, Claudius (even though I had planned to, I didn't get around to watching any last night) but I figured I'd vote in the other two matches now.

Firefly vs Eastbound and Down
I had a little comment written to the tune of The Ballad of Serenity that just repeated the same thing and didn't provide much information, so I erased it. You're welcome.
Danny McBride is either hit or miss for me. Unfortunately in Eastbound and Down he was a miss. Even though I'm not as huge as fan of Firefly as many of my friends, I've always rather liked it so this wasn't a close match-up at all.

Nathan For You vs Inspector Gadget
I'm sorry Camo, but Nathan For You is one of the worst things I've ever seen. There's no way it can complete with the theme song to Inspector Gadget. ;)

Bob's Burgers vs The IT Crowd vs I Claudius
I've always loved the IT Crowd, despite the obnoxious laugh track. A show has to be very funny and charming for me to get over the fake audience noises, and the IT Crowd just clicked with me from the very beginning. I still quote or reference lines from the show on a regular basis. Bob's Burgers I was not amused by. Whenever Bob spoke all I could think about was how I would rather try watching Archer again instead. It was certainly much better than Nathan For You though haha.
I've heard good things about I, Claudius but I feel like I need to be in the right sort of mood to watch and enjoy it.

Huh, I didn't pick up on that. Odd because as soon as Bob spoke I knew it was Sterling Archer.

Speaking of voices, Augustus in I, Claudius frequently reminds me of Douglas Reynholm from The IT Crowd. I guess it's the tone and that style of speaking. As a person who usually expects some gladiatorial matches with their Roman political intrigue, I was pleasantly surprised by I, Claudius. It managed to hold my attention quite well, and if it wasn't up against one of my favourite comedies, I might very well vote for it. It is far more interesting to listen to than it is to watch though, because to me the visuals were rather bland. The way it was filmed reminded me a lot of a stage play, but that might just be typical of the time.
While watching it I had flashbacks of studying Tacitus for one of my classes, and it really irritated me whenever someone said "Germany" instead of "Germania", but I imagine most people wouldn't care about that haha.

Watched the second episode of Firefly. As i said i am counting the pilot as two since it was 90 Minutes same with I Claudius and any other shows that length. I don't love it yet anyway but i do like it and will continue watching it. Eastbound N Down is a bit hit and miss for me so...

Eastbound N Down - Firefly

I Claudius next for me.

Ok, i've not heard anything from people planning to vote and i don't want to keep matches open when one is clearly going to win. So i'm closing these two:

Survivor 1 vs Parks and Rec 6

All In The Family 1 vs Twin Peaks 5

I'm close to closing the Firefly - Eastbound match too so N Down fans come to its rescue.

The third set has been up over a week and i'm not sure who is still planning on voting on it. So i'll keep those six matches in the first post up and i'll also post the final set of the first round:

Silicon Valley Vs The Inbetweeners (UK)

Big Wolf On Campus Vs The Walking Dead

Rectify Vs Married With Children

The Sopranos vs Aaah Real Monsters

Buffy The Vampire Slayer Vs Archer

Bloodline vs Rick and Morty

The Venture Bros vs Black Books vs Cheers

Mama's Family vs The Mary Tyler Moore Show vs Friends

Silicon Valley Vs The Inbetweeners (UK)

(There's not much between these two for me, i just gave it to The Inbetweeners because i'm in the mood for watching it again)

Big Wolf On Campus Vs The Walking Dead

(I hate the Walking Dead but haven't watched any of the other show to vote)

Rectify Vs Married With Children

(Hope some of you like Rectify if you try it)

The Sopranos vs Aaah Real Monsters

(Monsters is fun but The Sopranos is my favourite show)

Buffy The Vampire Slayer Vs Archer

(There's next to nothing between these two for me)

Bloodline vs Rick and Morty

(Bloodline is going to be the first show i watch after i'm done with set 3)

The Venture Bros vs Black Books vs Cheers

(Close between this and Cheers. Not a big fan of Black Books even though i'm a big Blll Bailey fan)

Mama's Family vs The Mary Tyler Moore Show vs Friends

(Only seen Friends here)

OK. I've not heard anything from people planning on voting in the third set and i'm not really alright with having 14 matches up at one time so i'm closing these four:

Firefly 4 vs Eastbound and Down 1

King of the Hill 5 vs Seinfeld 3

The Shield 3 vs Hannibal 1

Nathan For You 3 vs Inspector Gadget 2

These two are still open from set three:

Orange Is The New Black 2 vs Daredevil 2

Bob's Burgers 2 vs The IT Crowd 2 vs I Claudius 1

I'm just about to watch I Claudius so i may be able to break that tie in a few hours. Or i might end up voting for I Claudius and tying things up even further haha. I'll watch a few eps of Daredevil in the next few days if no one else has broken that tie.

Watched the first two episodes of I Claudius, amazing show definitely going to finish it. Will probably post about it in the TV Tab when i'm done. I am still going to vote for Bob's Burgers though since it is a show i've loved for years. Also partly because i don't want to cause another tie, especially not a three show one since it will be tougher finding someone who can vote on it. So:

Bob's Burgers 3 vs The IT Crowd 2 vs I Claudius 1

I'll leave this match open for another 24 hours or something to give anyone who hasn't voted on it a chance to vote. I'm going to move on to Set 4 now with Bloodline. I'll close the Daredevil-OITNB match with TN's vote if someone hasn't broken the tie by then.

heard so much about the inbetweeners and seen a few clips here and there-its not going to be a favourite show of mine but its still pretty funny.

Big Wolf On Campus Vs The Walking Dead

Ive seen the walking dead before since there was so much hype about it. sorry but i just dont like zombie things.

Rectify Vs Married With Children

I was pretty sure i would love rectify and i did! Married with children is really funny but a good drama will always win over a good comedy for me.

The Sopranos vs Aaah Real Monsters

Had actually just started The Sopranos not too long ago, long overdue!

Buffy The Vampire Slayer Vs Archer

Buffy is my all time favourite show, from the humour og quick wit to the amazing cast and metaphores.

Bloodline vs Rick and Morty

Bloodline is my nom and my favourite current show so it would have been tough to beat it-i think out of the lot Buffy would be the only show that would make me think about it.

The Venture Bros vs Black Books vs Cheers

i loved this! I knew as soon as i saw Bill Baily that i would. cheers has a bit of nostalgia to me but i never really cared all that much for it.

Mama's Family vs The Mary Tyler Moore Show vs Friends

i liked both mamas family and the mary tyler moore show, they have something cosy about them. kind of reminds me of Keeping up appearances in the sense that its kind of show i would watch with my mum. Still friends is such an amazing show.

I just watched the first episode of Rectify, and I'm kind of disappointed that it's time for me to go to bed now, because I really want to watch more. Just noticed this. I used a randomizer and that's what came out. The Sopranos is both my nom and my favourite show so i was of course happy with that. Some of my other noms didn't do so well. Community drew Breaking Bad in the first set giving it no chance, and Still Game actually went up against a show i prefer: Dexter.

Indeed. (:

Watching it for the first time in 2016, it is obviously a bit dated, but it still holds up really well. I was afraid I might find it boring, but the characters are really compelling and I've been enjoying watching their stories unfold so far. It's sort of embarrassing that I'm only watching it now, but like they say: it's better late than never haha.

Silicon Valley vs The Inbetweeners (UK)
A couple months ago, one of my friends highly recommended Silicon Valley, but I just could not get into it. The Inbetweeners on the other hand I rather enjoyed right from the start.

Big Wolf On Campus vs The Walking Dead
Friends of mine who were fans of the comic were looking forward to The Walking Dead show, so I checked out the premiere but turned it off before the end of the episode. I never gave it another chance because the people who did like the show all agreed that it got terrible later on. This time around I managed to sit through the entire epsiode (plus two more!) but it didn't really change my mind.
I never watched Big Wolf on Campus when it was new. I was never a fan of werewolves in any context, and time hasn't changed anything. My room mate thought it was hilarious that this show was even nominated, and asked if any other old YTV shows were on the list, and whether or not anyone was being forced to watch Breaker High haha. While Big Wolf on Campus is not my kind of show, I'd like to see it beat The Walking Dead.

Rectify vs Married With Children
I wasn't sure what to think of Rectify when I read the description on wikipedia, but I really liked the show. I'm interested in seeing where this whole thing goes. As far as American sitcoms go, Married with Children is one of the better ones, but I'm just not a fan.

The Sopranos vs Aaahh!!! Real Monsters
As I already mentioned, The Sopranos is little dated when you're watching it new today, but it still holds up really well for its age. Real Monsters, on the other hand, doesn't really. I never liked the designs of the monsters, and I'm not a fan of that style of animation. Even as a kid I just found it kind of gross looking.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer vs Archer
Buffy is a show I haven't cared about in like...16 years or so, and Archer is a show I'm not a fan of but I want to care more about, so this was a tough call. Some of my friends are huge Buffy fans. I watched the first couple of seasons when it was new, but it never stuck with me like it did my friends. Archer is a show I tried to watch about a year ago, but found it to be too standoffish so I never watched any more episodes until recently. I really want to like Archer more than I do, but the show still hasn't won me over. I like a lot of the people involved with it, so I'm going to keep trying. At least for awhile haha.

Bloodline vs Rick and Morty
When I first saw Bloodline nominated, I thought it was that show Blood & Oil, so when I turned it on I was confused for awhile, haha. Once I realized that it was a different show, I still found it a bit hard to follow. I really didn't like how ADD the camera work is in the first episode, where it kept cutting to new angles when it didn't need to, and an unsteady camera always distracts me. I already gave my opinion on Rick and Morty when I watched ahead a few weeks ago, and while I didn't particularly like that show either, I actually found it easier to watch than Bloodline. This was another tough call.

The Venture Bros vs Black Books vs Cheers
When I first saw Black Books about a decade ago, I just instantly loved it. At the time I was already a fan of Dylan Moran's stand up, and I had recently become familiar with Billy Bailey. So of course Black Books sounded like the best idea in the world to me. It probably doesn't say anything good about my own behavior, but I always found Bernard to be a rather relateable character haha. I was never really a fan of Cheers. It was always on tv so I caught a number of episodes over the years, but it was only ever something I'd put on to kill time waiting for the show that was on after it to start.
Both of my room mates love The Venture Bros (one of them in particular owns a lot of licensed merchandise from it), but any time I inquired about it they just said that I'd hate it. About a year ago I was looking for a half hour comedy to watch, and asked if I should try Venture Bros or Archer. With no hesitation they immediately said I'd like Archer more, and I never bothered to check out Venture Bros until now. Unfortunately my room mates were correct.

Mama's Family vs The Mary Tyler Moore Show vs Friends
I might vote in this match up later. I've only seen Friends and I already had to watch a lot of shows for this set, so I'm not sure if/when I'll get around to watching episodes for the other two shows in this match. I definitely will if there's a tie though.
