One-Eyed Jacks (1961)

I'm not a huge Western fan so this was a nice surprise for me. I'm thinking that around 7 to 9 Westerns could already make the 60's list, so this movie may get left in the dust here. I thought the story was terrific, and Marlon Brando gives what could be my favorite performance from him. Just about matching him is Karl Malden, who plays a character that reminded me of the Hackman character in Unforgiven. I'd be curious to know if this movie has other fans here, or if it's just one that happened to jive well with me.

I understand that this was supposed to be directed by Stanley Kubrick, but it fell through for whatever reason. Brando ended up directing it, the only movie he would ever direct.

Bright light. Bright light. Uh oh.
You should know it's in my Top 100, so I love it to bits - I like it better than Unforgiven.

Everything's Ducky (1961)

Everything's Ducky was a cute movie, but as I expected, it wasn't great. It's a fun, but stupid movie starring Buddy Hackett, Mickey Rooney, and a talking duck. If you have a couple of hours to waste, it's okay if you just want to relax with a fun movie, but don't expect much.

The Virgin Spring (1960)

Heartbreaking and thought-provoking from Bergman. Not as strong as I had expected, however I thought the imagery and performances were exceptional. It's not top 5 Bergman for me but it's still a

Wild Strawberries (1957)

Now, this one surprised me, before watching both, i was certain that I would enjoy The Virgin Spring more out of these two, however that was definitely not the case. Such a profound, intelligent and emotional story. Loved every minute of it.

Ive only watched 8 of Bergman so far but my ranking would go something like this:-
1. Persona
2. Hour of the Wolf
3. Wild Strawberries
4. The Seventh Seal
5. Through a Glass Darkly
6. Cries and Whispers
7. The Virgin Spring
8. Autumn Sonata

Finished here. It's been fun.

Skyfall

This is the first movie I watched on my recently purchased Blu-Ray player, and I was truly blown away. One of the most fluid, beautiful action flicks I've ever seen.....if not the most beautiful. Each shot is breathtakingly composed and gorgeously lit, and this combined with exceptional action scenes(No shaky-cam) makes the film extremely engrossing. Sam Mendes did a hell of job here.

Argo (2012)

Well, I didn't like Ben Affleck as an actor, I don't like him as a director aswell!

The movie lacks depth and meaning... It has too many Affleck's personal critics on Hollywood and one can notice some resentment from him because his career is not doing very well...

The base story is fine, the documentary part is not bad and the part on the airport is thrilling as any blockbuster is suposed to be... But the rest is just "I-already-seen-this-elsewhere" stuff...

5/10

A normal man? For me, a normal man is one who turns his head to see a beautiful woman's bottom. The point is not just to turn your head. There are five or six reasons. And he is glad to find people who are like him, his equals. That's why he likes crowded beaches, football, the bar downtown...

A few documentaries i watched over the last couple of days.

Casino Jack - 7.5/10

Not as good as Gibneys Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room which is my favourite doc, but still very well done. I'm looking forward to the rest of Gibneys docs except Mea Maxima Culpa because i wouldn't be able to watch a doc about kids getting abused.

Spellbound - 7.5/10

This really surprised me it's not something i'd watch again, but it was good for a one time watch. The Pressure put on those kids is unbelievable, i'd have probably went out on a word like chair, or is it chare?

There's Something Wrong With Aunt Diane - 6/10

This was a suggestion from my own aunt and i kinda regret watching it now. What happened to those kids and the people in the other car was horrible . Also the complete denial from the father pissed me off. His theories were beyond ridiculous. Paraphrasing here:

The Dad: Maybe she had a tooth abcess and that caused a stroke. Doctor: Well that's possible i suppose but how does that explain the alcohol in her sytem? The Dad: Well maybe she picked up the Vodka thinking it was water to take her pills with. Me: So she drank 10 drinks worth of Vodka thinking it was water?

I’m just the espresso

I didn't have very high expectations but it was so damn entertaining and absolutely hilarious.

Spirited Away (2001)

Spirited Away was one of the anime movies that I've heard a lot of praise about it over the years, so it quickly jumped to the top of my watchlist when the animation list was announced. At first, I wasn't sure what I was watching. I couldn't figure out if it was supposed to be a dream, or an alternate reality, or , but I just sat back, relaxed, and watched the movie without trying to figure it out.

If I understood it correctly, it's a coming-of-age story that takes place in some type of spirit world. Based on the greenery that grew all around the tunnel, and some other clues, there seems to be some time that has passed between the people getting out of the car at the tunnel, and when they come back to the car at the end, so it doesn't appear to be a dream.

Maybe it's the differences in cultures, but I don't understand much about spirit worlds, and people changing into dragons and other creatures, so I may have to watch this a few more times to really understand it. But at least it was an enjoyable story with nice animation, so it should be an easy re-watch, especially if I read a little bit more about it before I re-watch it. (If anyone here has any insights about this that you want to share, I'd be happy to hear them.)

Right now, it has a tentative rating of
, but I hope to see this go higher after a couple of re-watches.

A Million Ways to Die in the West (2014)

It's one of those movies you can't take too serious... It's entertaining and there are a few good Seth-Macfarlane-style jokes with really clever humour... However it's not nearly as good as Ted and some stuff are really predictable...

(Also, I can't stop seeing Brian everytime Seth talks, it's damn confusing)

5/10

No, you wouldn't be happy to hear Guap's rant, believe me.

7500 (2014)

It's an enjoyable little movie to watch, when you are bored, but it's nothing special.

I would give this 6.4/10

The Grand Budapest Hotel Directed by: Wes Anderson
8/10

Wes Anderson does it again. He tells a fantastic tale that in any other directors hands, probably wouldn't work. The quirky style of comedy worked well. The only thing that didn't work for me was Adrian Brody's character.

His career is not doing well? You know he is cast in a Fincher movie, bast as Batman, and is in pre-production for another film he is directing. Not to mention Argo won best picture and he will probably direct a future Batman film (which will be unfairly compared to Nolan's). I respect your opinion of the movie, but claiming his career isn't doing well would just be lying.
