But it is still just deeper and better realized fantasy than most of the sword and sandal films of this time (though there were some lower-budget ones that did a pretty decent job with much less production).

This is easily the best idea the film has and whenever hes onscreen the film is elevated significantly.

Overall, my take on the film is this: Whether or not West has made a new Horror classic I really can't say, I will have to ruminate on it and some time will have to pass, but this is one of the most well-made Horror films I've seen in a long time and is a good film regardless.
