My guess is that all of these devices were used in films previous to Annie Hall but I would love to hear of another example of a film that uses them all and this effectively.

Thus, the characters are flawed, as all comedic characters are, but Alvy Singer (Woody Allen) and Annie Hall (Diane Keaton) are so natural at bringing them to live.

Even if I were going to try to separate the art from the artist (and, when the movie involves Allen playing a main character that's really similar to himself, that's going to be a little difficult) the fact of the matter is that I actually don't like Annie Hall, so of course I'm going to have to try...

Annie Hall is the romantic adventures of neurotic New York comedian Alvy Singer and his equally neurotic girlfriend Annie Hall.

It's a good film that I'll probably be watching again, and Allen shows skill and talent that would be present in many of his other films.

Annie Hall, considered by many to be the quintessential Woody Allen romantic comedy, won the 1977 Oscars for Best Picture, Best Actress (Diane Keaton), and Best Original Screenplay (Woody Allen and Marshall Brickman).
