William (Patrick Fugit) is raised by a very up-tight mother (McDormand) with strict principles , but his dream is to be a rock and roll writer - when he gets a chance to write an article on Stillwater for Rolling Stone magazine , William follows them on their tour and meets a bunch of people along the way.
