At the heart of the story is Salomon " Sally " Sorowitsch, a well known counterfeiter and general all round crook as he strives to make the perfect counterfeit pound and dollar in order to save his own life and the lives of many other men working with him in a Nazi concentration camp.
Thursday Next
This brings him into conflict with idealist Adolf Burger (August Diehl, in a memorable performance), who wants to sabotage the counterfeiting programme as a way of getting back at the Nazis.

In the film, Burger is played by August Diehl, and he is worried about his wife who is still in Auschwitz, and he still believes in trying to do anything he can to stop the Nazis' plans of both destroying the British economy by flooding the market with fake pound notes and increasing the chances for....
