Also, I doubt this movie invented some of the action movie tropes that so many other movies, TV series and video games produced since employ, but it might as well have for how well it treats them.

This is one of Ebert's Great Movies, and in his enthusiastic review of it he writes, "If it is not a great film, it is a great entertainment, and contains all the elements of the Bond formula that would work again and again.".

I think people who like this movie are either diehard Bond fans or find a highly specific appeal in Bond's seemingly arbitrary goofiness.
