The humour in Pee-wee's Big Adventure tends to be broad and family-friendly; while that isn't necessarily an obstacle to a film being funny, none of the jokes ever really seem to land.

Overall, while personally Pee-Wee's Big Adventure is one of my all-time favorite movies (and quite possibly the greatest road trip movie of all time), Pee-Wee Herman as a character can be hard to handle in large doses, and if you're just not a fan of Pee-Wee this could be a hard movie to enjoy.

And just when you think the chase through the Hollywood movie studio is enough, the 4th wall comes completely down and we learn that Pee Wee's story has the caught the eye of a movie producer (Tony Bill) who wants to turn it into a movie.
