This Fritz Lang film follows Wanley, a married man that ends up meeting Alice Reed (Joan Bennett), the subject of a beautiful painting he and his friends were admiring on a shop window earlier.

If Alice is a siren because she seduced Richard away from his routines, what can we say about Richard, who seems to see Alice more as a symbol of youthful adventuring than as a real person.
