The character is both more sensitive and feeling in his dealings with his daughters and Genevieve Bujold's Beryl Thibodeaux; but at the same time Eastwood plumbs much darker depths with regards to Block's sexual predilections.

The killer has taken note of who's on his scent though, and starts to taunt Block with notes and cryptic clues - killing a gay man he set Block up with, before Block can get to him and complete the play.

Casting Eastwood as Block is also inspired because he seems like a guy who could resist any temptation - he's the Good in The Good, the Bad and the Ugly after all - so when he can't, it hits harder than usual.
