Possible "Frasier" reboot in the works

"Another beloved sitcom is plotting a possible return. I have learned that Frasier star and executive producer Kelsey Grammer is fielding interest to put together a new Frasier series.

Unlike the slew of recent revivals of comedy series with the original cast and original creative auspices, including Will & Grace, Roseanne and Murphy Brown, I hear that Frasier is envisioned as a reboot, likely set in a new city, with the title character, played by Grammer, as a possible link to the Emmy-winning 1993 series.

I hear Grammer is currently meeting with writers who are pitching different concepts for the potential followup series. If the producers settle on a writer and a premise, the project could move beyond exploratory stage. Reps for Grammer and CBS TV Studios declined comment."

That would be more of a spin-off than a reboot. Given that the ending of Frasier had him jetting off to trying to find a new life, I don't really have much of a problem with it, as long as it's half-decent.

Came here to start a Frasier reboot/spin-off thread but one was already made in 2018. Thought I would provide an update. I just can't get into the new style of sit-commy shows like The Office, Parks and Rec and other in that vein. They are fine enough shows, well done and entertaining but I just don't connect with them like the old sitcoms. Home Improvement, Everyone Loves Raymond, Fresh Prince, King of Queens and so on. But the 2 sit-coms and really shows period I never get tired of are Seinfeld and Frasier.

I can just throw on both and just rewatch either at anytime. There isn't a day that doesn't go by I don't get reminded of some episode of Seinfeld. However, Seinfeld might be more iconic but there is a reason Frasier is only 2nd to Emmys to Game Of Thrones (and SNL but that doesn't count). Frasier quality is insanely good. Characters, actors, writing are all some of the best in entertainment history in my estimation. I can't stand when people don't give it a chance (manly my friends, young 30 year old males into sports.) It's so damn good.

Anyways it sounds like Frasier part duex is happening. Article was end of last year and said he hoped to shoot in spring this year. Obviously the virus put an end to those plans, but hopefully they can get going as soon as everything is safe. So probably won't get it until 2021 bummer.

Reboots can be tricky to a show like this, but if they have the same writers/show runner I'd be in so quick. He was juggling ideas on a couple interviews I saw about him being a professor in Chicago which I think would provide very fertile ground for new material. But he mentioned his son who would be like 30 now and wanting him to take after his Dad instead of him, sports loving. I think that is such a great idea comically and story wise. Talked about bring the whole cast back, but that might be a mistake given he is in a new city and they all stayed behind in Seattle. I think it would be amazing if he ended up with Lilith at the end ha. But we will see. I am hopefully if it's the same creators/writers from the Frasier/Cheers.

Well, there is one cast member they won't be bringing back - it could be that Frasier returns to Seattle for Martin's funeral and that's what kicks off the new series as he decides to stay and get back in touch with everyone else, though that would be a pretty grim beginning to a sitcom reboot (albeit necessary to address the absence of John Mahoney rather than attempting to recast Martin). I'm also thinking there would be a reversal of the original series' dynamic where circumstances force Frasier to move in with Frederick.

Seen a few interviews. He is pretty vehement it's not going be in Seattle. He was leaving for Chicago at the end of Frasier. Chi town would make a lot of sense. Frasier starts on the East coast in Boston then West coast Seattle then ends up in Midwest.

Yea that's what got me so interested in the reboot the dynamic he could have with his son being like his Dad all into sports . I just think if you are going do it right focus on that relationship in a new place. Bringing Niles, Daphne and Roz all to that new city would be a big jump. Sure you bring them in for guest spots but the whole gang up and moving with him feels too convenient imo. Also being a professor makes sense and would be as fertile for material as his radio talk show.

For sh*ts and giggles I wonder who they would cast as an older Fredrick? Make a big splash or go with an unknown? Probably unknown theater actor seems like their MO. Anyways it's got me excited if it's half as good as it's two predecessors.
