early 80's film - kid pretends to be an alien to fool a bully

hi there, im trying to remember a movie about a nerd type guy who was bullied at school and he dressed as an alien and appeared on a bully's tv screen.
the bully thought he was communicating with an alien and in front of the whole school he had a tv set up to prove to everyone he wasn't crazy then the nerd removed his mask and te bully was humiliated...

any ideas?

I am sorry; I cannot help, but as I read your request, I also could not help but smile. I immediately thought of Marty pretending to be an alien and torturing his father with a Van Halen tape (to compel the latter to ask his mother to the prom) in Back to the Future.
