Hopefully this sort of thing hasn't been done before. Also if this deserves to be in the game section, so be it.

The trailer can be amazing, but the film can suck - Prometheus.
Also the trailer can suck and the film be really great - X-men: First Class.

Godzilla
Shot specifically for the teaser and not in the actual film, this teaser trailer for Godzilla in 1998 does an amazing job of setting up what we are in for. We are in New York and are given a quick history lesson on the biggest predator creature on land, the T-REX. Just then, a foot smashes through the ceiling and destroys what we were just told.
Anticipation met. Godzilla is big and he's in town to destroy some landmarks. Very little is shown, other than said foot and a bit of his tail. Perfect, we don't need to see what he looks like, we only need to know of his destruction.
One of the very few trailers specifically shot as a trailer and one done right.
