Robert DeNiro: As great as he is, he's not varied

I may not be as knowledgeable of every movie DeNiro's done, but it seems like he always plays a brooding, depressed person. Even in Meet the Parents he was a tough guy. Correct me if I'm wrong. Is there a movie where DeNiro is totally different from his other serious roles and regular persona? Does anyone think DeNiro is capable of playing a flamboyant gay character or something of that sort. I'm not dissing DeNiro because he's one of the best actors ever. I know it's the movies that are offered to him, but does anyone think he's capable of playing drastically different characters? because his serious roles seem to be very similar to his real-life persona. Am I wrong? Enlighten me.

I think that the main thing is when people are casting films, they tend to go with what actors are good at. For instance, you're casting a film with a flamboyantly gay character, is the first name that comes to mind Robert DeNiro? Didn't think so. Not that he's typecast, but he plays to his strengths, certainly. I'm sure that if he wanted to, DeNiro could play a gay character, but I don't think we'll ever see him camping it up, however funny that image might seem.
