The Last Dragon -

Basically imagine if Breakin' 2:Electric Boogaloo was about martial arts instead of break-dancing. You can tell it's an affectionate parody, but that's not enough to make it a generally enjoyable film. Also, this might be one of the most aggressively '80s movies ever made.

I saw that at the movies when it came out. It was a packed house and a lot of people loved it. It had that great hit song but I didn't like the movie. I saw Breakin' 1 and 2 at that same theater. Good times.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

What can I say? Granted they added A LOT to these movies that didn't happen in the books, and when you add Legolas in the mix, its never a bad thing. That river scene is probably one of my favorite action scenes from any of the LOTR/Hobbit movies. Lee Pace does a decent enough job as Thranduil. Luke Evans shines in this movie I feel, I really liked the character Bard. And Benedict Cumberbatch.....(Cucumber patch fanboy rant alert) the voice he did for Smaug was fantastic, they tweaked it obviously but finding out he helped do all the motions, facial expressions, etc for Smaug while doing the voice was just incredible, every movie I see of his just makes me like him and respect him even more. Evangeline Lilly is just so hot jesus christ. Now, one the ending to this movie is what brought it down to just 4 popcorns instead of 4 1/2. The transition between this movie and the third one is where this trilogy started getting weak. Which brings me to the oh boy....

(WHY THE HELL IS THIS ONE OF THE POSTERS????!!!!)
The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies

*Sigh* the inner fanboy is making me sad giving any LOTR movie anything below a 4 out of 5. This movie is not the worst movie I've ever seen or anything, not even close, but for a LOTRs movie by the SAME GUY who directed the LOTR, it is bad. Terrible CGI armies, forced LOTR references that they didn't need and shouldn't of done, annoying human characters who don't get what they deserve, and it seems like Peter Jackson went full Game of Thrones in this movie (I won't spoil anything but some may know what I mean by this). One of the biggest red flags for this movie was the fact that the beginning of this movie should of been the climax for the previous film. There's a lot more I could get into but I won't because it makes me more angry. And the fact that the poster i posted above the title is actually one of the promotions for this film pisses me off even more. This movie is what I can only describe as a boner killer. Despite it being the worst of the LOTR's movies, there are some good spots in here. The very last scenes with Bilbo were very well done.(And i'm not jokingly talking about the credits)

The Cocoanuts (1929)

While not their best movie, this is a funny, entertaining movie and a worthy entry in the Marx Brothers canon. There's a flimsy plot about Groucho trying to keep his hotel in Cocoanut Beach, with Harpo and Chico showing up to "help" him, and there's the requisite romantic couple, although without Zeppo being the leading man. In fact, Zeppo has a very small role here. There's Groucho's constant foil, Margaret Dumont, who wants to marry her daughter off to a gold digger, and the gold digger's partner-in-crime, the late, great Kay Francis.

Lots of the expected shenanigans, including Harpo doing the old "hiked-leg-on-your-arm" bit, Chico doing his piano solo, Harpo with his harp solo, lots of great quick bits that are there and gone too fast, and best of all, the "viaduct" back-and-forth between Groucho and Chico, which has become a classic bit.

I wasn't expecting much from this early Marx Brothers movie, but it turned out to be a winner.

Bright light. Bright light. Uh oh.
I watched and rated 10 Marx Bros. movies I saw on TCM yesterday, as well as a sci-fi flick starring The Rodent and Sci-Fi Slob in the Movie Tab here.

The Lord of the Rings: the Fellowship of the Ring

Could I have rated it lower? Yes. Does it deserve a lower rating? No.....simply everything about this movie was and is fantastic. It has one of my favorite tragic characters I've ever seen put to film in Boromir(I know he redeems himself in the end but I still consider him a tragic character, it was his obsession that was ultimately his downfall). When he calls Aragon his king I tear up every time lol. Solid acting all around. I don't know what else to say I could go on a rant about how amazing I think this movie(And the other two) is and it still wouldn't be enough to describe how much I love it. Amazing start to my favorite movie trilogy.

Fellowship ftw, because it has the perfect amount of action (doesn't overdo it), the perfect pace, and the perfect balance between comedy, drama, and character development. And Sean Bean dies in the perfect slo-mo, tragic fashion!

I Saw The Devil (2010) - Jee-woon Kim

- Wow this movie is totally my type of flick. Gore, about a serial killer, intense, shocking and excellent acting. Two thumbs-up for Min-sik Choi and Byung-hun Lee that give one hell of two great performance. Jee-woon Kim direction is more than perfect and so many scenes that I gonna remember for a long time (The scene in the house of the ''friend'' of Min-sik Choi is incredible imo). Love the ending with the music and last showdown between these two. Truly an awesome flick and a new favorite of mine for sure.

Derek, I recommend The Yellow Sea, New World, and Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, if you haven't seen it already. Glad you liked I Saw the Devil.

I was just about to say how that was a spoiler, but then I realized you don't really spoil any movie if you say that Sean Bean dies in it.

I've been sitting here for like 15 minutes trying to figure out how I can use that, I love it!

Glad you loved the movie!
