I like some of both. Emperor is my favorite straightforward black metal band, though I'm a big fan of some of the more experimental black metal-rooted artists like Arcturus, Solefald, Ulver, Thy Catafalque, and Sigh.
Really pushing the black label, but really good and creative metal:
As for Doom, a lot of it sounds redundant to me, but I love Naked City's insane 30-minute doom track Leng Tch'e. Also, The Melvins and Boris have some really good stuff.
