Least Favourite Movie Genre

Tools

Do you have a least favourite genre?

For me it is Rom Coms! HATE THEM! With a passion.

I absolutely hated "Pretty Woman", which all my friends adore. If I see a flick is described as a Rom Com, I avoid it like the plague.

(I did a search for this topic but didn't find it anywhere, so if I have repeated please let me know.)

Rom Coms are sooo funny, but in a romatic way - ya know?

Sorry Harmonica.......I got to stay here.
Least faves are:

Wedding Comedies (and most romantic comedies)

Comedies based on SNL skits

Movies starring animals

Torture Porn (SAW, etc)

Material arts films

You have to know so much about fabrics, knitting, one of a kind pieces versus mass commercial reproduction processes, what's hot---fashion wise and what's not.

I hate them, I tell you. I hate them.

Probably Musicals & Shakespeare cap. A good one can be alright. An Aussie film with Sam Worthington named Macbeth was pretty good.

Would Anime be considered a genre or sub-genre? Probably sub-genre, so, in that case, I think I'd go fantasy.

That's if I'm just picking one, of course.

Romantic comedies are up there, to be sure. But probably horror, if only because the ratio of good ones to absolutely fall-down-terrible bad ones is among the lowest of any genre.

Horror is like poetry: when it's good, it's unbelievable. When it's bad, well, it's also unbelievable...but in that bad way. Not that good way.

Oh, how exact! Truly it is a shame, because my girlfriend adores horror films and I find myself at her heels on our way into the theater.

Musicals & horror are my least movie genres. If I am forced to pick one, it would be horror.

Definitely musicals but I like a few here and there.

Like the fella says, in Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love - they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock."

This may seem like a cop-out, but I really love ALL movies. Now that doesn't mean I think all genres are equal. Romantic comedies are usually pretty formulaic, but I like knowing that an unlikely couple will end up together after a series of humorous mix-ups and romantic adventures. Period dramas always have British accents and elaborate costumes and make-up, but a well-made one is a well-made one. A lot of horror movies absolutely suck; as Yoda said when they're bad, THEY'RE BAD. But a good one that follows all the rules of the genre and still brings something new can become a classic a la The Shining, The Exorcist.

....except musicals. musicals suck.

Except for Singin' in the Rain.

Bright light. Bright light. Uh oh.
... and Cabaret, The Wizard of Oz, Love Me Tonight, Gold Diggers of 1933, the Astaire-Rogers series, Meet Me in St. Louis, Oklahoma!, Guys and Dolls, The King and I, West Side Story, My Fair Lady, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg and several dozens more I won't bore people with.
