Women will be your undoing, Pépé
Same with me. I think there are 2, maybe 3 movies on my list that are a bit iffy, but the rest are mainly action films.

Something like Pitch Black which got an honourable mention wasn't even on my radar even though I really like that movie, because to me it's more sci-fi/horror. It's sequels are certainly more action-oriented, but in my opinion the original one really is not.
exactly. Very hard NOT to wander off the trail with so many genres being split: sci-fi/action, western-action and so on down the line. I guess, in the end, it comes down to the person and what stands out for them for any given movie. Was it the Action that stuck out, was it the Drama that stuck out, the Comedy, the Sci-Fi. . .

Which, having such a WIDE berth and that Omni has allowed it stay so makes me rather curious to see this list's outcome and the far reaching films that mofo's have nominated.

I think that my #1 (if it's on the list at all) will apear within...7 places.

As for my listing I opted for movies that Omni described on page one: "There is only one qualification: YOU WATCH IT FOR THE ACTION" and so my top ten-ish follow that specific protocol while quite a number of favorites got knocked down to lower positions or simply didn't make it. Like Smokey and Akira would have but following the ideology of "Watch it for the ACTION" they didn't, simply because when I watch Smokey - its for the comedy and the sheer enjoyment of Gleason; and Akira is for the amazing artwork, for example.
Well said.

Pitch Black has a rare spot in my personal collection, but I also discounted it.

I discounted A LOT of great movies from my list, since I don't consider them full-blown action flicks. They may have one scene with really good action, but the rest of the movie holds itself up by drama or tension or whatever...

I did NOT include The Dark Knight, Casino Royale, Return of the King, Robocop, The World's End, Inception and Taken for that very reason above or that I simply watch them for different reasons or they fall into different overall genres etc. So yeah

People watch Robocop and Taken for the drama? Who aren't The Rodent?

I'm with Omni on this one. What other reason is there to watch Robocop? The underlying subtext of big buissness is slowly taking over the world? Alex's struggle between his humanity and his programming? They're there, but I always saw that as secondary to the action.

Mind you, I was 8 when I first saw it and only later did I realize these issues were there, so that will have influenced how I see that movie.

RoboCop is just more of a crime drama/thriller of sorts to me. I don't remember it to be action heavy, exactly. Been a while so maybe I just don't remember all the action... my fault then.

Nevertheless, this list was always gonna be the most controversial in terms of whar should and shouldn't be on the list. As we can already see, people are in completely different ends on what counts as an action film...

Lots of action in Robocop - albeit excessively violent action, but still action.

Gun battles, car chases, horrifying technical malfunctions, gross disfigurement, attempted robberies, attempted rape, crime fighting, abuse, hostage situations, people thrown from windows, bathroom arguments, hand to hand combat, gang violence, explosions, fires, cop on cop violence, toxic waste mutations, robot battles, neck stabbings, etc.

Well, I was the one who got the Honorable Mention for Pitch Black. True, its horror elements may be the bulk of the movie, but I still enjoyed it for the action moments, with Riddick taking on the creatures by hand near the end. And even though the kills were horror, to me it was action because I'm truly not easily horrified. So, for me, more action-oriented than horror although I will stand alone in my opinion. I'm just jazzed to make the Honorable Mentions.

No need to be overly direct about it.

Robocop is one of my favorite films. I watched it a lot when I was younger - probably one of the first violent films I saw (the Murphy mutilation in the beginning with the hand and all made me a little sick though fascinated at the same time.

I remember the car chase, with the open back door of the truck with the shooting, I remember the attempted rape with the d*ck shot, I remember the bad guy's fall to death from the window, I remember the red hair/beard guy getting his body melted, I remember the robot malfunctioning at its presentation and shooting the hell out of the volunteer. I remember all that...

Still, I feel like the drive of Robocop is the satirical element and the story about Murphy. I was probably dumb for not including it because I do love it, but though I find Robocop entertaining and fun, it's not the most constant action flick i can think of. Whatever the case might be, other movies where more memorable for the action and got on my list for that.

What do you mean? Is it one person's choice that gets the honorable mention? Like, was pitch black your #1 and because it didn't make the cut you get an honorable mention? I thought it was the movie itself that got the mention. Or am I missunderstanding how it works? Am I stoopid?
