Surprisingly Good

I was basically given no choice in seeing Mama Mia! and have now loved it 4x.

I didn't see Terminator til it was on TV, thought it looked lowly-aimed, and ended up watching the whole thing one commercial break to the next on late night.

Casino Royale - I had written the Bond franchise off as played out, but Craig breathed new life into it.

I just saw Nick and Nora's Infinite Playlist. I was expecting it to be really bad, but it was actually pretty funny.
Yes it was!! When I saw previews and stuff for the movie I thought it was gonna be one of those BLAH kinda movies.. but when I saw it I was suprised at how funny it was!! Same with The Rocker with Rainn Wilson & Christina Applegate... did you ever see The Rocker?

One of the biggest "surprisingly good" movies of all time, for me, was Orange County. Really love that flick. Funny, well-acted, good casting, and surprisingly perceptive, too.

I think I need to go watch it again soon, actually.

"That's right. Claire Danes."

I was invited to the premiere of (Priceless) Hors de prix and I didn't expect to like it as much as I did. Witty comedy and great performances.

This will floor you, Delilah. Went because my wife wanted to see it. I never liked disco, knew the names of a couple of Abba songs, but never bought the records or listened to them; And up to a couple of years ago, didn't care much for Streep. Didn't expect much at all from the film so was amazed to find it was really fun and enjoyable! Bought the DVD and the soundtrack. For my wife, of course.

The thing that turned me around on Streep was we were at sea on a cruise and they showed Devil Wore Prada (or however it's spelled--I always think Pravda, the Russian newspaper) in the ship theater. Took one drink in with me, ordered another, and warned my wife I'd probably fall asleep from boredom. Dunno if it were just that she was playing an older woman or what, but a blindman could see Streep was great in that role. Hope the younger cast members were taking notes because she was a college course on "How to be an Actor" in that one film.
