Save the Texas Prairie Chicken
I just have to mention one thing. I absolutely love that you included "Tropic Thunder". I love that movie. It is in my list of top ten comedies. I think it is hilarious.

38. Night of the Living Dead (1968) (NR) USA
Horror
Romero
Midnight Movie

One of my favorite sub categories of film is those that count as Midnight Movies; a film that following a generally poor or lackluster theatrical run gained cult status by showing them at midnight. Starting with El Topo in 1970, several films became staple films at midnight. This includes films I really love like Heavy Metal, Pink Flamingos, and The Warriors. And one of the big six of the midnight movie scene was Night of the Living Dead. While it did have its usual run in grindhouse and drive in theaters, it would go on to be a big run at midnight because someone screwed up at the patent office. Due to a clerical error, the film reverted to the public domain. So anyone with a copy of the film could legally show the film and not have to cut Romero a check. Aside from its midnight movie status, it is also one of the greatest zombie movies of all time and started the initial Living Dead trilogy. It has a very boots on the ground or guerrilla feel to the film. Blended with a creepy musical score and some awesome scenes of legions of undead descending on a farm house in rural Pennsylvania. Easily one of the best zombie movies ever, it is a great film to see when the sun goes down and the lights are out.

Make that 103 reps!

Loved Gran Torino, almost anything Clint does is good. Goodfellas! and the camp cult classic Night of the Living Dead! We use to watch that film for a $1 at an old theater.

37. Eraserhead (1977) (NR) USA
?????
Lynch
Midnight Movie
Criterion

Another film from the midnight movie scene was David Lynch’s feature debut. This was the world’s first introduction to his unique brand of surrealism; blending body horror with avant-garde and dreamlike images. And if you ask “what the f**k did I just watch” after your first viewing, I assure you that is normal. Lynch is a filmmaker whose films I hate trying to describe the plot to. These are films meant to be experienced and then left to the viewer to decide what happened. Lynch does not spoon feed his films to you, he wants to make you earn the meaning. Rewatches are practically mandatory. All I can say is watch this film with the lights off and late at night. It will create the perfect mood for this film.

36. Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn (1987) (R) USA
Horror / Comedy
Raimi

The Evil Dead is another classic midnight movie, but I admit I much prefer the sequel / reimagining Evil Dead 2. It is still bloody and gory, but it also has the perfect blend of comedy. It also doesn’t hurt that it stars one of the greatest B movie actors in Bruce Campbell in his best role. Only in a film like this can a guy strap a chainsaw to his arm and wield a sawed of double barrel be done let alone be awesome! Plenty of laughs, buckets of blood, and plenty of scares. It is just an all around great film.

35. Thriller: They Call Her One Eye (1974) (NR) Sweden
Action / Exploitation
Vibenius

You were expecting Bergman maybe? I admit I am not huge on Swedish cinema, but this Swedish exploitation movie hits the spot. Lots of sleaze, lots of nudity, violence, some artier scenes, and while some say the slow motion scenes were excessive, I loved them. And not to mention Christina Lindberg is just really hot as One Eye. Kind of torn on which cut I prefer though. I really liked the use of a cadaver for the eye gouging scene, but the porn was not needed at all. So I prefer the They Call Her One Eye cut. Right up there as one of the best revenge films, this is also my favorite exploitation movie from the 70's. Hope to see more movies like this over time.

34. Vice Squad (1982) (R) USA
Action / Exploitation
Sherman

I love this film because it is a sleazy masterpiece. Made on the cheap in the 80’s, Vice Squad is based off true cases from the files of the LAPD. How much is truth and how much is fiction I do not know. But I can definitely see a lot of this stuff happening. From psycho pimps, the very strange and weird fetishes of the johns, and the hard truth that the life of a street walker is a living hell and none of that Pretty Woman BS; Vice Squad breaths 80’s sleaze. But aside from a lot of naughty language, frank sex talk, and some very suggestive situations, there is very little nudity to this film. Unlike other movies like Hardcore, or Thriller, this film does not have a lot of T&A. And I am fine with that, as the emphasis is on the story, characters, action, and the location settings more than trying to squeeze in the most boobs. Credit where credit is due.

I really must watch Vice Squad. I started to watch it a week or so ago, but had to drop it soon after the credits because something came up.

BTW, can you say that They Call Her One Eye is your favourite exploitation film when the very next film is Vice Squad?

Meant to say 70's exploitation film. A typo I shall fix.

I have to return some videotapes.
I got no sleep last night but whenever I am wide awake I am gonna read this entirely. Was really looking forward to this

I promise I will!!

Save the Texas Prairie Chicken
I was so scared of this when I was a little kid. And my brothers used to be mean to me about it, too, by changing "Barbara" to my name just to scare me. Brothers!

We've gone on holiday by mistake
Love the thread. You have taste sir! Could the title possibly be a clue as to what film is going to be very high ? A personal favourite of mine too, I'm sure we've discussed it before too.
