DR. NO (1962)

inspired by Daniel M's recent review, i revisited the first Bond film. hadn't seen it in years. i think Daniel did a great job laying it out in his review thread and i agreed with mostly all he said, check out his review here if you'd like Daniel M's Dr No

i do have several thoughts. Ursula Andress' entrance as Honey Ryder is evidence of a movie's ability to deliver unrivaled visual power. 80 thousand computer animators can spend a combined 30 million hours developing a special effects shot. while Ursula Andress can put on a white bikini and walk around on a beach... they even had to dub her voice bc her Swiss / German accent was too thick. who cares? i know what kind of scene i find more memorable

i love the locations and the tension they created in the story, especially once they end up on Dr No's island. i agree with others in that if it weren't for an underwhelming ending, it might could be my favorite Bond film. it's still in my top 5 or so tho

Rating:
+ 7.5 / 10

while i'm thinking about it, here are some quick thoughts on Bond, let's see how confusing i can make this
* favorite overall actor to play Bond: Sean Connery
* favorite Bond film: GoldenEye (1995)
* favorite individual performance as Bond: Pierce Brosnan, GoldenEye
* favorite Bond girl: Famke Janssen's Xenia Onatopp, GoldenEye
yea, i like GoldenEye

Glad I inspired you to give it a re watch Nostromo, yeah the ending is a bit simplistic but it doesn't bother me too much Hopefully ITV over here show GoldenEye as I haven't seen that in a while too, and I wouldn't call it a favourite at the moment. From Russia With Love is on tomorrow though, so I'll watch and review that next

From Russia With Love is great imo. Along with Goldfinger it's a contender for my 60s list.

Yup, they're probably my two favourite Bond films (at least from the older ones), but they desperately need re watching. ITV (UK) is doing a Bond season, so I'm getting some great opportunities to re watch them ready for the 60s list.

agree with you and camo, From Russia With Love, Dr No, Goldfinger & GoldenEye are my Top 4 at the moment

i'd also like to see On Her Majesty's Secret Service, starring George Lazenby as Bond

I own them all in a big James Bond suitcase anyway, but the Bonds are constantly on tv. They have marathons every few months. Those two and Goldeneye are my top 3.

  1. Goldfinger
  2. From Russia With Love
  3. Casino Royale
  4. Dr. No
  5. Skyfall
  6. Live and Let Die

Something like that at the moment, although it could easily change. Although I prefer the spirit of the older films, I think the new releases are very good enjoyable films in their own right. Live and Let Die is sort of a guilty pleasure, I know it's not very good, but I love it.

Sorry if I'm rude but I'm right
* favorite Bond girl: Famke Janssen's Xenia Onatopp, GoldenEye

She's f**king nuts! Has to be my favourite Bond girl too, though.

Friday The 13th (1980)

The movie that revolutionized the slasher horror genre.

Despite the many flaws, including the poor acting, cheesy dialogue, and no character depth, except for the killer of course, Friday The 13th keeps you on the edge of your seat and hiding behind the palms of your hands. And the killing scenes still hold up as cool and inventive, the best one being an arrow being driven through Kevin Bacon's throat from under the bed.

That's my top 4 as well. Maybe not that order though. My guilty pleasures are On Her Majesty's Secret Service and Spy Who Loved Me

I can't help but respond when the conversation is about Bond films:

1. Goldfinger
2. Dr. No
3. The Spy Who Loved Me (Guilty pleasure and straight-up awesome film)
4. From Russia With Love
5. GoldenEye / License to Kill (I can never choose between those two)

I enjoy most of the other ones too (I've seen all of them, including Never Say Never Again), because Bond films just happen to represent a certain style that I love.

The Seven Samurai (1954)

Such a long movie, but never a dull moment. I wouldn't even know where to begin with praise because I loved every second. I'll let it sink in a while before I edit my top 10 list.

Hot damn! Glad you loved it! A Top ten of mine for some time.

i'm maybe the only one on this earth who very don't like ''Seven Samurai'' very too long and boring per moment but I can see why it's a classic but it's very not my kind of movie...
