My Favorite Susan Sarandon Performances

Tools

16.

Stephanie Beck, Loving Couples

Sarandon brings a little substance to this musical beds comedy playing a woman who starts dating a guy (James Coburn) whose wife (Shirley MacLaine) is cheating on him.

15.

JoJo Floss, Moonlight Mile

Sarandon makes the most out of a thankless role as a woman who is dealing with a lot of neighborhood gossip because her daughter's fiancee (Jake Gyllenhaal) is still living with her and her husband (Dustin Hoffman) even though their daughter died.

14.

Catherine, The Other Side of Midnight

Sarandon plays a glamorous socialite who finds herself in a romantic triangle when it comes to light that her new husband (John Beck) has never gotten over his first love (Marie France-Pisier).

13.

Reggie Love, The Client

Sarandon received an Oscar nomination for her performance in this intense drama playing an attorney hired by a young boy (the late Brad Renfro) to protect him from the mob after the boy witnessed the suicide of a mob boss.

12.

Jane Spofford, The Witches of Eastwick

Sarandon played a lonely small town piano teacher who, along with her best friends (Cher, Michelle Pfeiffer), conjure up a man through a magic spell (Jack Nicholson) who turns out to be the devil.

11.

Janet Weiss, The Rocky Horror Picture Show

Sarandon became an official movie star with her performance in the cult classic playing an uptight young woman engaged to a nerd (Barry Bostwick) who finds herself having a sexual awakening when their car breaks down in front of the castle of a kinky bisexual mad scientist (Tim Curry).

10.

Hattie, Pretty Baby

Sarandon was a real eye-opener as a prostitute who raises her daughter (Brooke Shields) in the brothel, then gets married and leaves her daughter alone to learn how to be a prostitute.

I was laughing at this the other day . I love the line:

"I'm glad we caught you at home
Could we use your phone?"

where Brad completely blanks out the over-the-top spectacle of the good doctor .

12. Jane Spofford, The Witches of Eastwick

Sarandon played a lonely small town piano teacher who, along with her best friends (Cher, Michelle Pfeiffer), conjure up a man through a magic spell (Jack Nicholson) who turns out to be the devil.

Great film. I liked Veronica Cartwright in it as well.

I love how in this still, it looks like a Rocky T1000 has turned his finger into a spike which has gone right through her chest.

9.

Adele August,Anywhere But Here

Sarandon plays a flighty divorcee who moves from her small New England town to travel to California with her daughter (Natalie Portman) and turn her into a movie star.

7.

Catherine Ames, Twilight

Star power was the calling card on this one where Sarandon plays a woman married to a wealthy actor (Gene Hackman) who also finds herself involved with the retired ex-cop (Paul Newman) who recently moved in with her and her husband.

6.

Nora Baker, White Palace

Sarandon was sex on legs playing a world weary waitress who has an affair with a much younger business executive (James Spader).

5.

Sister Helen Prejean, Dead Man Walking

Tim Robbins directed longtime love Susan Sarandon to her first Oscar after 4 previous nominations in this fact-based drama playing a nun who becomes the spiritual adviser for a death row inmate (Sean Penn).

4.

Bette Davis, Feud

Sarandon received Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for playing Bette Davis in this FX miniseries chronicling her longtime feud with Joan Crawford (Jessica Lange). Never noticed it before this, but with certain hairstyles and lighting and camera angles, Sarandon's resemblance to Davis is uncanny.

3.

Sally, Atlantic City

Sarandon earned an Oscar nomination playing a casino employee who becomes involved with an aging former numbers runner (Burt Lancaster).

2.

Michaela Odone, Lorenzo's Oil

Sarandon was again nominated for an Oscar for her performance as a woman whose young son has developed a rare blood disease whose husband (Nick Nolte) may have discovered a cure.

And that's #2...anyone familiar with Sarandon's career should have figured out what # 1 is by now...and now my # 1 favorite Susan Sarandon performance:

1.

Louise Sawyer, Thelma and Louise

Maybe it was partly being crushed under the Silence of the Lambs sweep and the fact that co-star Geena Davis was also nominated, but I think Sarandon was robbed of what should have been her first Oscar for her brilliant performance as a woman who has to go on the run after killing a man who was trying to rape her BFF (Davis). I don't think Sarandon has ever been better than she was in this movie.

Hope someone enjoyed the list.
