2022 Mofo Fantasy Football Champ
Never seem a film by:

- Billy Wilder
- Keisuke Kinoshita
Haven't seen anything from Wilder? He's one of the best of all time!!! Some like it Hot is my favorite, but I'd start with Double Indemnity.

Re: Ozu

I saw that the Noriko trilogy consists of Late Spring, Early Summer and Tokyo Story.

Well what about these:

Early Spring
Late Autumn
The End of Summer
An Autumn Afternoon

...are they also connected in any way? If not, what's with all the early/late seasons?

Late Spring, Early Summer and Tokyo Story could be considered connected and could not be considered connected. The reason these are often considered as a trilogy is that they all star Setsuko Hara as a young woman named Noriko, though each character is distinctly different. Ozu's concern with seasonal titles is, from what I can tell, related to his female protagonists, how their lives and conditions can be related to nature. Some of Ozu's films are considered remakes of his own films, which is why we see a lot of resonance between titles, but I prefer not to look at his films in such conventional terms.

I need to watch more Ozu.

I love Tokyo Story and Late Spring, any suggestions on where to go next, his filmography is quite big.
I haven't seen any Ozu
For Ozu (it's so hard to choose), Woman of Tokyo, Late Spring, Early Summer, and Late Autumn are my favorites, but there's so many Ozu films I think are perfect.
These were my recommendations, one early period Ozu (most people pick I Was Born But... out of his early films but I think that's a bit messy in comparison to Woman of Tokyo), two Black and White Ozu, and one Colorful Ozu. I would also say Floating Weeds, perhaps his most beautiful film, and his last film, An Autumn Afternoon are good recommendations. I have a personal attachment to Late Autumn since I saw it in beautiful 35mm in New York on a really good day.

You should see all of their films tonight, easier that way

It's amazing how much progression I've made. I've seen many films by all of these directors now.

Directors I still haven't seen:

Andrey Tarkovskiy - I will watch Stalker soon, thanks to Guap, as he nominated it for the Hall of Fame tournament. I'm also looking forward to seeing Solaris.

Yasujiro Ozu - I will watch Tokyo Story in the near future.

Fritz Lang - I have M and Metropolis both on DVD, so I'll watch one of those two first.

François Truffaut - All recommendations are welcome!

Luis Bunuel - All recommendations are welcome!

Jean Renoir - All recommendations are welcome!
Here are the directors I'm most curious about of which I still haven't seen ANY (feature length) films at this point:

Hou Hsiao-Hsien
Alejandro Jodorowsky
(have seen the documentary about Dune)
Guy Maddin (have seen many of his shorts)
Masaki Kobayashi
Satyajit Ray
Claude Chabrol
Sergei M. Eisenstein
Jean Cocteau
H.G. Clouzot
Béla Tarr
Agnès Varda
Josef von Sternberg
Carl Theodor Dreyer
Mario Bava
Ken Loach
Mikio Naruse
Zhangke Jia
Apichatpong Weerasethakul
Stanley Kramer
Masahiro Shinoda
Anthony Mann
Tsai Ming-Liang

Marcel Carné
Yoshishige Yoshida
Jacques Rivette
Pier Paolo Pasolini
Nanni Moretti
John Sayles
Kon Ichikawa
Francesco Rosi
Chang-Dong Lee

Tony Richardson
Claire Denis

There are still some big names amongst these! I hope to explore some of them in the (near) future! Any recommendations are welcome.

DeMille, John Frankenheimer, Paul WS Anderson (the only good Anderson?).
