"Warner Bros. are making a rebooted Willy Wonka prequel movie, it was revealed today.

According to Variety the new film, which will reportedly be set before the events of Roald Dahl's book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, is being made by the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them producer David Heyman, and will tell the story of Wonka's early years.

If the planned new film goes down well with audiences, Warner Bros. are also considering a "possible" Willy Wonka franchise, a source told the website."

If they do it right, with the spirit of the Gene Wilder movie, then it will rock.

If they go the Tim Burton direction, it will suck.

I'll wait for a synopsis and cast list/director before I say anything about it. Actually, I'll say one thing. I agree with Tongo. If his recent films are anything to go by, I wouldn't want Burton in on it.

It's like they've found the distilled essence of everything people like me despise. I actually might have sprained something in my neck cringing.

Which means it will (of course) makes millions and millions.

This looks better than I expected...Chalamet certainly helps bring it up

I haven't seen it yet, but I learned a couple of years ago that Timothee Chalamet is ALWAYS worth watching.
I largely concur; I adore Timothée Chalamet. Yet something about this one is giving me pause. Will give it a try then after dinner.

As soon as I hear "maybe a franchise", I'm out.

If you want to make multiple movies, have a reason to do it. Don't just wait and see if it's succesful and then make more because you can milk it. Enough with these beancounters being in charge of everything.
