2008 - What films will you see ?

Tools

Were already half-way through January with the release of Cloverfield this coming friday. Too bad Micheal Gondry's Be Kind Rewind (my pre-decision film of the year for 2008). Has been pushed back to Febuary 22nd.

Diary of the Dead - New Romero zombie film febuary 15th : though I have yet to even see Land of the Dead

Drillbit Taylor - I don't know what to think of this movie yet : the trailers are downright horrible , but with Seth Rogen writing the script so who knows what could happen febuary 25th

Shine a Light - A rolling stones documentary directed by Scorsese : april 4th

Speed Racer - Wachowski brothers new film : I have no clue what to expect - but it just might be good May 9th

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - My second most anticipiated movie of the year , just recently the Indiana Jones films have become some of my favorite : and this looks to be another amazing installment.

The Incredible Hulk - I have no clue if this is a sequel or just a completly new film about the hulk : but edward nortan is hulk - so I'm interested. June 13th

WALL-E - Pixar's new film is already coming out , meaning this 3d animation studio is capable of producing the finest looking CGI the fastest. That aside , sounds like an incredible idea for a movie : i just hope it dosen't get turned into the generic family movie. June 26th

The Dark Knight - Sequel to Batman Begins , allright - i'm gona give batman begins one more chance : because I haven't seen it since my tastes have sharpened and Christopher Nolan memento director made it. July 18th

Though this year can never live up to the amazing movie packed year 2007 was - Be Kind Rewind , Indiana Jones Crystal Skull , and WALL-E all look to be amazing films.

DVD's
----------
2008 is also going to be a great year for film because - all the movies I loved that came out later in 2007 : are coming to DVD now.

The King of Kong Fistfull of Quarters - January 29th

American Gangster - Febuary

Grindhouse - Though I haven't read anywhere that they will actually be releasing the original film on DVD : i can only hope

No Country for Old Men - March

Southland Tales - March 18th

Juno - May

There Will Be Blood - May

Some of the flicks I'm most looking forward to, in no particular order...

The Changeling (Clint Eastwood)
Burn After Reading (Coen Brothers)
Synecdoche, New York (Charlie Kaufman)
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (David Fincher)
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (Spielberg)
The Dark Knight (Christopher Nolan)
Iron Man (Jon Favreau)
What Just Happened? (Barry Levinson)
Tonight at Noon (Michael Almereyda)
Cassandra's Dream (Woody Allen)
Fahrenheit 9/11½ (Michael Moore)
Standard Operating Procedure (Errol Morris)
The Palermo Shooting (Wim Wenders)
Crossing Over (Wayne Kramer)
Shine a Light (Martin Scorsese)
Blindness (Fernando Meirelles)
My Blueberry Nights (Wong Kar Wai)
The International (Tom Tykwer)
Guerrilla (Steven Soderbergh)
Doubt (John Patrick Shanley)
Appaloosa (Ed Harris)
Choke (Clark Gregg)

I don't know how many multiple hundreds of films will wind up being released in 2008, but it'll be damn difficult for any of them to have a better title than Synecdoche, New York. That Charlie Kaufman is one clever monkey, and I hope his direction is as wonderful as his screenwriting. Amazing cast with some of my favorite actors: Philip Seymour Hoffman, Catherine Keener, Samantha Morton, Emily Watson, Hope Davis, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Diane Wiest...boy, oh boy!

Aye boy don't spit in my drink!
There are a lot of amazing looking movies coming out in '08. These are the ones I'm probably looking forward to the most.

BODY OF LIES (Directed by Ridley Scott)

BURN AFTER READING (Directed by Joel & Ethan Coen)

REDBELT (Directed by David Mamet)

REVOLUTIONARY ROAD (Directed by Sam Mendes)

RIGHTEOUS KILL (Directed by Jon Avnet)

Tyger, Tyger, Burning Bright
Beyond the ones already mentioned, I'll add in a few more that look interesting, or at least hopefully good for some escapism

The Signal - a movie told in 3 parts about some signal (duh!) that comes over the airwaves - TV, phones, etc.... I really don't know too much other than what I saw in the trailer, but it sounds like the signal itself causes many, many people to just going on a murderous rampage... sounds like fun for the whole family there!

Jumper - There are people that can "jump" from place to place, through walls, etc... but there are also those that chase them... pure popcorn here, and will probably be relegated to my wait for DVD list, but still looks neat...

The Spiderwick Chronicles - family film sorta, just looks interesting for all the impressive effects if nothing else...

The Orphanage - I'm assuming this will be subtitled... should be nice and creepy! An adult wearing a weird hood looks like a stalker... a kid wearing one, creeps me out. Any time I see a movie with kids doing creepy things... its ten times worse than any adult doing the same sort of things...

Wanted - Morgan Freeman as a master assassin? sounds cool!... with A. Jolie too? OK, sounding even better... and apparently there is some sort of almost supernatural twist? I don't know that this is going to be any good even as popcorn, but with both of them in it, its worth a shot to me...

The Happening - M. Night Shyamalan's next one, which, from what I've read (including here), might have a chance, as he appears to be getting back to his roots with suspense and horror...

Hancock - a comedy with Will Smith as a superhero... sorta... could be funny, or just lame, but with Smith playing the lead role, I'll give this one a gander probably...

there are a few others I know are supposed to be coming out in late 2008, but I either don't know a thing about them, or just don't know what to say yet;
Where the Wild Things Are
The Day the Earth Stood Still
Bond 22
Star Trek (I'm a fan, sue me )
The Box

I knew nothing about Righteous Kill... saw that pic with Pacino and de Niro together and checked it out on IMDB... How the heck did I not hear about this? It apparently filmed in 3 towns within 20 minutes of where I live... guess I really do ignore local news

Actually dude, this should count as a 2007 movie. I know for a fact it was playing before New Year's and I've actually already seen it. Here's a link to my review:

The Orphanage

The Orphanage
It was released originally in 2007, yes, but in the US (which is where I am, and where I am thus basing my list) it was at 2 film festivals and then only released limited on Dec 28th, but not in full release until 2008. All of which I had to look up on IMDB since all I had seen was that it was a 2008 release.

So, if you feel like being picky about it, then yes, you are technically right, it did release in the US in 2007, but honestly, do 5 days in limited release really matter enough for you to feel the need to point that out? ...dude...

28 days...6 hours...42 minutes...12 seconds
The mere fact that the Coen Brothers are using the new RED ONE CAMERA has me interested in Burn After Reading

I think it's very much worth pointing out The Orphanage is a 2007 film because it just so happens to be Spain's official selection for consideration in the Best Foreign Language Film category for the upcoming Oscars...dude.

And that's a cool factoid about the Red camera. The only big-time director I knew who'd be using it was Soderbergh.

Welcome to the human race...
Outside of anything already listed, I want to see how Tony Scott's upcoming remake of The Warriors turns out (if only out of grim curiosity).

..wow... just... wow... you really need to get a life outside movies if you need to be quite so trite about this, even going as far as feeling the need to give me neg rep for replying to your original comment giving my, what I consider valid, reason why it was on my 2008 list..

honestly, it really doesn't make that much difference to me if people want a movie to be considered 2008, 2007 or 2007 BC if they want.. its just not that big a deal... I figured I'd give my reasons for saying it was a 2008 movie just so you, and anyone else reading, had an idea where I was coming from. I won't bother giving you the neg rep back, even though my finger is twitching to do it... that would just be stooping to a level I don't see as being constructive...

I'm also anticipating for the movie "Wolverine", I'm so excited for this one...

I live down near the bottom of Australia in a town called Warrnambool.
The bad thing is that our cinema hasn't and will not be screening 1408, Hitman, Alien vs Predator Requim and such. Anyways this year I'm going to try and see:
AMERICAN GANGSTER: It's out in the cinema now and I've liked all the movies I have seen starring Denzel Washington but I read in a review that Crowe didn't give such a great performance.
I AM LEGEND: Seen it the other day actually LOL.
IRON MAN: Might go check it out when it's released.
INDIANA JONES 4: Liked the first movie, second failed, third was pretty good, I want to see if this one will be any good since Harrison Ford is now now like 65 or something like that.
JAMES BOND 22: Daniel Craig played Bond beutifully in Casino Royale, wonder if he can pull it off again estimated release in November sometime.

That's just one part of my must-see-list-2008.

I wish I could get my town not to screen movies like 1408, Hitman and Alien vs. Predator: Requiem.

Will your system be alright, when you dream of home tonight?
Mummy 3 - Rob Cohen will be producing this likely hit, its a sequel to Mummy 1 and Mummy 2.

Kung Fu Panda - I think this movie will be biggest cartoon hit of the year.

Step up 2 - Its a dimmed down cast but im hoping they can pull off another good movie.

ewwwww, I'll just say

1) All I hear about the Mummy 3 is negative stuff, like they are moving it to Japan? wtf?

2) Kung Fu Panda? Is this the best cartoon they can give us? Give kids a BIT of credit.... god I miss the 90's where every cartoon wasn't as stupid as this one

3)Oh, another dancing movie? That is all we need right now, I mean with big hits as Feel the Noise, Honey, Dirty Dancing: Havanna Nights, or the classic You Got Served, I bet this will just shoot up the box office

Well, there were some unanswered questions from the first Step Up. As I'm sure you'll recall, the last lines of the film were...

NORA
You know what this means, right?

TYLER GAGE
No, what's it mean?

NORA
You're gonna have to get some tights.

TYLER GAGE
Done.

Then they kiss and the HipHop credits begin. Now, don't you want to see them go shopping for those tights they was jabbin' about?!? Come on, the sequel practically writes itself.

No, but this does
