I agree, Depp does look creepy, and the whole film looks so bizarre, but it's not a remake, this is a totally new interpretation of Dahl's classic, and coming from the mind of Tim Burton, who knows what to expect.

I think that Depp looks quite queer, and I don't think that it will do awfully well at the box office next year, but I hold out hope although I remember the last time when Tim Burton made his own adaptation of a classic movie.

A novel adaptation.
Wow! They should just revamp all the old classics with Depp replacing the less pretty actors!
Depp as Charles Foster Kane!
Depp as T.E. Lawrence!
Depp as ELIZA F*CKING DOOLITTLE!

That trailer makes me want to vomit until I die and then die some more.

Never conform, never compromise....
First off, I like the original so don't pan me for my opinion. I personally love the new screwed up look Tim Burton is giving this movie, and I agree that Depp looks creepy...VERY creepy, which is one of the things I liked the most about the teaser...other then everything else about it. The long and short of it --> I can't wait for this movie...it is definatly(sp?) one of my most anticipated movies of next year.

Having read "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" (many, many years ago) and having just now viewed the trailer of Tim Burton's adaptation of this classic, it would seem that he is steering this version towards the more darker view (more like the book) which is more his style of film. I'm not yet sure what to make of it, but I will most likely see this just to compare it to the 1971 Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
Mel Stuart version I grew up with and still enjoy.

I don't like movies that look on the dark side of things. I tend to focus on mostly the bright side of everything. But I trust Burton and Depp will make a great film and hope it will be entertaining

There's a dark side to a bunch of midgets swimming in chocolate?

Midgets? In chocolate? I think you are getting the Gene Wilder Wonker film mixed up with events from the porn version 'A Wonky Willy and the Choclate Factory'.

Perhaps Burton has created drunken and homicidal midgets...

Not sure if he'll pull it off yet, but alas I'll keep my hopes up until I see the movie this year.

This Is A Classic And Should Stay That Way.
It's fairly simple. Hollywood more or less has run out of original ideas and is trying to cash in on the movies people at the time thought were for one reason or another memorable. It's gauranteed to make money. It's got a built in audience and everything. Unfortunately about CATCF, I feel remaking that movie was a big mistake and that will most likely still be true after we all see it, I think. Makes me sad.

Technically, it's not a remake (we've gone over this before). The movie is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory not Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Yes, they're both based on the book, but the 1971 version took many liberties with the screenplay. Burton, along with many other fans of the book, was always disappointed that such a great book wasn't done justice. Everyone should watch it before determining that "they're ruining a classic film."

I actually can't wait for this movie, with Johnny Depp starring as Willie himself, I'm sure this will be a good movie. I've watched the previous version like 10 times, it's a great movie, but there's always room for improvement.

Pic doesn't show, J.
