Totally Righteous New '80s Song Tournament

ROUND 1, PART 2

1. St. Elmo's Fire - John Parr vs. Kim Carnes - Bette Davis Eyes-Very close call.

2. Jermaine Jackson - Dynamite vs. Beastie Boys-Girls-Not a fan of Michael or Janet, sure ain't gonna be a fan of Jermaine.

3. Joan Jett - I Hate Myself For Loving You vs. Together Forever - Rick Astley-I don't know what's more strange; that I've never liked the first song, or that I once liked the second song.

4. Cyndi Lauper - She Bop vs. Belinda Carlisle - Mad About You-Both are just ok for me.

5. Billy Squier-My Kinda Lover vs. Timbuk3 - The Future's So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades-Easy for me as I've never been crazy about the second.

6. Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go - Wham! vs. Greg Kihn Band - Jeopardy-I've nominated the second before, love it.

7. Madonna - Express Yourself vs. Phil Collins - Sussudio-Not one of my favorites from Collins, and that is one of my favorites from Madonna. I guess that tells you how I feel about the artists.

8. Bronski Beat - Smalltown Boy vs. Van Halen - When It's Love-That's not a terrible Van Halen song, except for the chorus, but I kind of hate it. You always know when a once great rock band does a song like that, the end is near.

Save the Texas Prairie Chicken
1. Yazoo - Don't Go vs. Huey Lewis-Heart and Soul

2. Bananarama - Cruel Summer vs. Eurythmics - Would I Lie To You

3. ABC - When Smokey Sings vs. Do I Do - Stevie Wonder
If ABC beats Stevie, that is OK because this is another on my mom's big favorites. I nominated it once before, and I was seriously going to nominate it again for this tournament until I saw it was taken.

4. Michael Sembello - Maniac vs. A Groovy Kind of Love - Phil Collins

5. Elton John - I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues vs. Def Leppard - High n Dry (Saturday Night)

6. The Waitresses-I Know What Boys Like vs. Bobby McFerrin - Don't Worry, Be Happy

7. Billy Ocean - Caribbean Queen vs. Somewhere Out There - Linda Ronstadt and James Ingram

8. Janet Jackson - Black Cat vs. Scandal (feat. Patty Smyth) - The Warrior

1. St. Elmo's Fire - John Parr vs. Kim Carnes - Bette Davis Eyes

2. Jermaine Jackson - Dynamite vs. Beastie Boys-Girls

3. Joan Jett - I Hate Myself For Loving You vs. Together Forever - Rick Astley

4. Cyndi Lauper - She Bop vs. Belinda Carlisle - Mad About You

5. Billy Squier-My Kinda Lover vs. Timbuk3 - The Future's So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades

6. Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go - Wham! vs. Greg Kihn Band - Jeopardy
This could very easily have been my mom's favorite sing. But then again, she probably always liked it because it is George Michael. And that man could do no wrong according to her. I just like the song because it is so damn happy and upbeat.

7. Madonna - Express Yourself vs. Phil Collins - Sussudio

8. Bronski Beat - Smalltown Boy vs. Van Halen - When It's Love

ROUND 1, PART 1

1. Yazoo - Don't Go vs. Huey Lewis-Heart and Soul

2. Bananarama - Cruel Summer vs. Eurythmics - Would I Lie To You
I know I should have went with a different song for Eurythmics but this is my favorite. Oh well.

3. ABC - When Smokey Sings vs. Do I Do - Stevie Wonder
Stevie has a little more groove for me

4. Michael Sembello - Maniac vs. A Groovy Kind of Love - Phil Collins
dance you delightful creature, dance!

5. Elton John - I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues vs. Def Leppard - High n Dry (Saturday Night)
Gonna vote against mine to the superior song

6. The Waitresses-I Know What Boys Like vs. Bobby McFerrin - Don't Worry, Be Happy

7. Billy Ocean - Caribbean Queen vs. Somewhere Out There - Linda Ronstadt and James Ingram

8. Janet Jackson - Black Cat vs. Scandal (feat. Patty Smyth) - The Warrior
NOT an easy call

@cricket You surprised me with #8!
Yea it's rare I'd go against VH. It's just that song; it reminds me of when Aerosmith started doing mushy ballads in the 90's.
Wow. So that was kind of a hate vote. I know what you mean though.

ROUND 1, PART 3

1. Def Leppard-Rock of Ages vs. Devo - Whip It
bit of a hard choice

2. Cheap Trick - The Flame vs. The Geto Boys-Scarface

3. Corey Hart - Sunglasses at Night vs. Karma Chameleon - Culture Club
not too crazy about either, actually

4. Spandau Ballet - True vs. Faith No More - We Care A Lot

5. The Jacksons - Can You Feel It vs. Queensryche - I Don't Believe In Love
quite the far end of the musical spectrum here

6. Hall & Oates - Out Of Touch vs. Livin' On a Prayer - Bon Jovi

7. Billy Ocean - Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car vs. The Pointer Sisters - Automatic

8. John Mellencamp-Crumblin' Down vs. Kix - Cold Blood

1. Def Leppard-Rock of Ages vs. Devo - Whip It

Easy choice.

2. Cheap Trick - The Flame vs. The Geto Boys-Scarface

Surprised to see some rap up in here. I prefer the other song.

3. Corey Hart - Sunglasses at Night vs. Karma Chameleon - Culture Club

Really an easy choice for me, plus it's my nomination.

4. Spandau Ballet - True vs. Faith No More - We Care A Lot

Easy choice.

5. The Jacksons - Can You Feel It vs. Queensryche - I Don't Believe In Love

Easy choice.

6. Hall & Oates - Out Of Touch vs. Livin' On a Prayer - Bon Jovi

Both great songs, but I'm picking the one I've heard and enjoyed more in my life.

7. Billy Ocean - Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car vs. The Pointer Sisters - Automatic

The wrong Pointer Sisters song.

8. John Mellencamp-Crumblin' Down vs. Kix - Cold Blood

It just sounds better.

1. Material Girl - Madonna vs. Cyndi Lauper - True Colors

Oh God, one of my least favorite Madonna songs and a Cyndi Lauper thing. Madonna, you deserve a win more than Cyndi Lauper.

2. Dexy's Midnight Runners - Come On Eileen vs. Yes - Owner of a Lonely Heart

Voting against my own nomination. I would have nominated Yes myself if it wasn't already taken.

3. Motley Crue-Wild Side vs. Aerosmith - The Other Side

Not crazy about either. "Wild Side" had the better video, but "Other Side" was the more listenable song.

4. Genesis - Invisible Touch vs. AC/DC-Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution

I'm getting sick of AC/DC. They've tried so hard for so long to win, and they never have.

5. That Was Then, This Is Now - The Monkees vs. Journey - Send Her My Love

I would have probably picked a different '80s Monkees song, but this is okay.

6. Sheila E - Glamorous Life vs. Faith - George Michael

Edarsenal's best nomination. I live for this song. "Faith", get outta here. You were here last tournament and lost quickly.

7. Prince - Little Red Corvette vs. George Michael - Careless Whisper

Voting against my own nomination again. That's one of my favorites from Prince, but I'm feeling that George Michael song more right now.

8. Foreigner - Urgent vs. Van Halen-Best of Both Worlds

I almost want to vote for the other one because I'm tired of "Urgent."
