Hi I just joined the forums hoping someone could recommend me some movies to watch. I thought I would tell you some of my favorite films so you know what kind of taste I have. My favorite movie is The Prestige. I also like The Departed, Inglorious Basterds, Saving Private Ryan, Shutter Island, and others but the list would be very long. Hoping someone can recommend some movies for me to watch. Thanks guys.

Finished here. It's been fun.

Se7en-Atmospheric dark thriller that's extremely engaging and oppressive. It's one of the best films of the 1990's and it's spectacular final act brings the film full circle. I recommend it because you like dark films based on your favorites above.

Django Unchained or any Tarantino movie-Recent Tarantino film. I see you enjoyed Basterds so I reckon you'll enjoy his most recent movie. His take on the spaghetti western. Bloody, fun, and with the dialogue and humor that permeates throughout most of Tarantino's movies.

Goodfellas-Scorsese's crime masterpiece is absolutely thrilling, entertaining, and extravagant. Tailing the life of Mobster Henry Hill and his time inside the mob. If you love movies, you'll absolutely adore this. Basing this on your liking of The Departed.

Inception-Your favorite film is The Prestige. I reckon you'll love Nolan's dream heist movie. Weird combination but it works to create one of the most enjoyable blockbusters in recent memory.

Hey thanks so much for the recommendations. I have already seen Inception and Django but I definitely will check the others out

Lord High Filmquisitor
Try Memento. It's also directed by Nolan and is a trip and a half to watch.

Have some more recommendations:

Gladiator-Thrilling blockbuster from director Ridley Scott.Featuring stunning top of the line visual effects and detail, epic action sequences and a engaging story Gladiator becomes one of the best blockbuster ever. Dark film epic thats satisfying to casual movie-goers and film buffs alike.

Taxi Driver-Another Scorsese flick about a lonely depressed vietnam veteran Travis Bickle. Taxi Driver is atmospheric, haunting and brilliantly realized. A character study of a man who tries to live a normal life but simply can't. Arguably the great DeNiro's best performance and one of the greatest neo-noirs of the 1970's.

Full Metal Jacket-war pic by Kubrick showing the duality of war. Weaving the horrors of the battlefield along with the trials and psychological horror of bootcamp and the hellish training. A different kind of war film than SPR but just as profound and intelligent.

Chappie doesn't like the real world
Based on your favorites, I'd recommend Intacto, Triangle and Cape Fear.

I also just re-watched Session 9. I didn't like it this time around, but the people I watched it with did. It may be something to look into.

If you liked INGLORIOUS BASTARDS, you should definitely see PULP FICTION and JACKIE BROWN. If you liked THE DEPARTED, you should definitely see TAXI DRIVER, GOODFELLAS, and CASINO.

I'd go for The Usual Suspects.
And if you like Quentin Tarantino, I'd suggest Martin McDonagh's two movies In Burges and Seven Psychopaths. They're more of a comedy, but I find he write similar to Tarantino.

VFN
Winter Calls Thy Name
The Machinist, Pi, Black Swan, Jacob's Ladder, The Number 23, and search for "best movies with a twist" or "best clever movies" etc. It's lighter fare but you might like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Being John Malkovich.
