The Godfather (1972) -

So boring and pretentious. Why is the same theme played over and over again, like we haven't heard it a million times already? Why does Marlon Brando talk like he does, it's so annoying. And why is the film so slow? There just isn't any excitement in it. I have now come to the conclusion that the only reason why people like this movie, is because they're too scared to say that they don't. Or maybe simply because they want to be seen liking it. I don't know... I see this film sitting at the top of the MoFo 70s list, and honestly it baffles me.

I was just kidding, you philistines!

A family member watched it tonight for the first time, and how could I say no. Yep, just as excellent a cinematic achievement as I remembered. Sometimes you need to return to films this good, to remind you just how good storytelling can be.

A near-masterpiece, 9/10

Boys Don't Cry (1999)

Boys Don't Cry is a very disturbing movie because it's based on a true story. It starts out as a light-hearted story as we watch Brandon make new friends, but as the story progresses, the tone of the movie changes. It's a movie that everyone should watch, and hopefully as a society, we'll learn to be more accepting of people who are different from us. It's possibly Hilary Swank's best performance, (although I haven't seen the movie Million Dollar Baby).

I highly recommend this movie.

Bright light. Bright light. Uh oh.
They need to remake The Godfather with Francis Coppola's nephew Nic Cage as Don Corleone in his Drive Angry persona. William Fichtner can play Sonny.

Glad you liked it I'm actually surprised because you've liked all my nominations for the various tournaments despite them not being your type.

Good Will Hunting (1997)

With: Robin Williams, Matt Damon
9/10

Oh damn it with the emotional movies I'm watching lately. This one is going into my top 10 as well.

This type of movie is one of those rare movies in which the storyline is already great, and the characters is what makes it, so perfect, they fullfit the holes. I mean the role of Will could've been done just as good with Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio in their best ages. But Matt Damon was the perfect one, he just fit so well. And same goes to Robin Williams, there are tons of actors that we could've put in his skin for the role, but he's just perfect, he fits with the movie, with the character and. Well for me it was just one of those movies that while you're watching you simply get into it. I mean (little spoiler here) when Will started to cry, I just did so as well.

Well I won't put more into it, I can't really describe it better than that and I'm sorry if that was bad and a pain to read. It's a great movie.

Thank you for picking good movies.

I try to watch all movies with an open mind, even if I don't think it's my type of movie. I don't really pay attention to who nominated what because I don't want it to (subconsciously) affect my opinion of the movie.

Martyrs.

I've got mixed feelings with this. It's basically two seperate movies in one. I throughoutly enjoyed the first half, and in the second half I enjoyed bits and pieces.

The main premise was pretty good, and without that the movie would be just another toture porn flick with nothing but gore to show. For me it was a bit over the top and a bit unneccessary at points but it was an okay watch. Don't really get all the hype though...

100% agree

Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives (2010)

A difficult film for me to rate. Whilst I probably won't rush to watch it again, i'd still recommend it.

+
This is a perfect reason for you to re-watch it.

Sweet Smell of Success

These super bleak and cynical movies tend to be pretty hit-or-miss but oh man this was perfect. Lancaster is repulsive and ruthless, but deeply interesting and not without some pathos in his misguided devotion to his sister. Curtis is slimy and almost as morally bankrupt as his boss, but he's not impossible to root for and both actors give possibly the best performances of their careers. However, the most intriguing part of the movie lies with Lancaster's delicate sister, whose shattered innocence is what gives the movie its big emotional punch. Beautiful cinematography too.

Have you seen Super, Gunslinger? That's my favorite James Gunn movie, and it would be in my top 100 of all-time. I love it.
