I hope she does, I would join, I love sci fi.

I thought The Quiet Earth was lame.

Metropolis unless you count the Thing as Sci fi. I think of it as horror first.

For me, I'd say 2001 and Solaris are at the top. I know that's not a hot take, but the gap between those two and #3 might be significant.

I see a lot of people here citing their favorites instead of what should objectively be the answer.

2001 should rightfully be considered the best sci-fi film ever made. And no, I'm not even a fan of 2001.

Brazil is also a masterpiece and should be ranked pretty highly.

Close Encounters is definitely high on the list.

Blade Runner, once again, not a huge fan... but objectively I concede it should be ranked highly.

I wouldn't call Hunger Games science fiction.

At least to me my favorite equals the best which in the case of scifi films is most likely Blade Runner.

I think my FAVORITE sci-fi movie is The Fly (1986).

And although it's great, I would never objectively say it's number 1.

I would never objectively rank works of art because art is nothing without a subject experiencing it.

All of the above sci fis are awesome


Personally I say anything with Tom Cruise is #1

You don't consider a film where in the near future the US is split into districts by a fascist government who then proceed to have children fight to the death for the populace's amusement as science fiction....

That's the problem I have with Alien, so I know where you're coming from. I've never seen Metropolis but I do have it on DVD.
