Top Gun Vs Days Of Thunder

Besides the obvious similarities (same director, same lead actor, same type of formula), those are both classics that lovingly embrace their cheesiness and take it to the entertaining extreme. I love both of these films, and while feeling Top Gun may be the "better" film, I love Days Of Thunder more. That's about far as my interest in motorsport goes.

Days Of Thunder for me...

I found Top Gun very homoerotic... Days Of Thunder is more "accessible" due to the fact that it's cars rather than the tight lipped secretive world of the military.

I found it more fun too, the way Cruise, Rooker and Duvall play off one another is fantastic.

Neither film is particulary interesting. Don't 'hate' them but I went for that option on the poll as I didn't like either film.

I saw both at the cinema when they were out. I enjoyed Days of Thunder but loved Top Gun. Haven't seen either in quite some time.

Top gun for me.

It was cheezy and it screamed "wooo, look how cool this is!" too much but it became a classic of it's own and that counts for something.

Days of Thunder had all the cons of Top Gun but didn't have quite as many pros and that's why I think Top Gun is the superior movie.


Both of them deserve to end up in a Nostalgia Critic episode though...

Just listen to the cheesy awesomeness...



I love Days Of Thunder. So much.

Although I rate Top Gun higher based on long ago viewings, I suspect if I were to watch both again, I'd like Days of Thunder more.
