IDK if I would count Team America as a musical, but it is brilliant satire.

Now South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut. Full on musical.
Both great films

I have just finished watching Frozen again with our daughter and it was the first veiwing for my wife. I was hoping to rewatch Ironman 3 but was out voted, so we are watching Brave now.

Yeah wives and kids do that a lot I bet.

Is it bad that I have never even watched an episode of South Park? I never thought it would particularly be my type of thing, but I love Team America now, so...

the spirit 1/10
Trailer looked something similar to sin city, but what a disappointment. Terrible acting by few characters and script so childish even samuel l jackson and scarlett johansson couldn't make it better. I had my doubts before watching this, but i didn't expect disaster.

It has a few great episodes, but also a lot of stinkers, in my opinion. This episode is BY FAR the best thing they've ever done, though:

As good as South Park gets.

This. That's you're next port of call, Daniel.

If you haven't seen any South Park episodes, this is no doubt a great one to start with.

Still a beautiful film to look at, but I still prefer the Director's Cut so far for a few reasons.

1. The Voice Overs: Yeah they have a Film Noir feel to them (I do love the genre) and I get a bit more trivia about the world from them, but they seem tacked on. Not to mention the delivery. Either Harrison Ford is just not a good voice over guy, or he just did not care. The theatrical cut feels disjointed with them, but the Director's Cut, it is a much more flowing film.

2. The origami unicorn: The significance of this origami piece is FAR more important in the Director's Cut and adds more to the film.

3. The ending: Cop out. Plan and simple. Cop... out. So much for the ambiguous and tragic ending of what happens to Rachael and Decker.

The voice over was terrible. The Final Cut and Directors Cut are pretty close in my opinion, the US theatrical, International theatrical and US broadcast versions are crap. The Workprint, however, is quite interesting.

I think the reason my opinion of Blade Runner has been so low for so long is because I am pretty sure I watched the theatrical cut first. Now I do not remember for sure (it was years ago). Either way I enjoy the film now.

I will watch the Final Cut later on this week.

It's a good and solid thriller but not my favorite from Steven Spielberg.

Goodfellas (1990)

As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a gangster.

This is one of those films that can keep me happy for weeks after I've seen it. It was already my favorite Scorsese flick (which says a lot) and one of my absolute favorites of all time, but this evening's rewatch only made me respect this masterpiece even more (if that's even possible). It's simply a perfect movie and the fact that it was chosen as the best film of the 90s only proves that the members of Movieforums do have a great overall taste!

My younger sister also liked it and gave it an instant "10" on IMDb. Rightly so.

+++ MASTERPIECE LEVEL

I will add to the Scorsese love.

++++++++++++

As you all know, this is my all time favorite movie. It is the perfect Scorsese movie IMO (no offense Cob ), and Scorsese's masterpiece. I have already gone into this slow burn of a movie. Another fantastic viewing experience. And since I have watched and analyzed it before, this allows me to pay attention to things I have missed in the background. Like how in previous viewing when I first noticed Scorsese is in a Hitchcock like cameo right behind Betsy as she is introduced for the firs time. Or when I first realized that the concession girl at the porn theater Travis tries to get to know was Dianne Abbott (who Bobby would go on to marry in real life). As well as be in The King of Comedy.

Well today was no different. Found a few other interesting things in the background while I was watching this movie.

1. When Travis is driving up and down New York City I always like to take in what places he passes and in particular to see what is playing at the movies at that time. Previous watches I noticed that such listings included the Texas Chainsaw Massacre and when Travis takes Betsy to the porno movie on their date, I knew the movie playing across the street was The Eiger Sanction with Clint Eastwood. What I did NOT notice until now was that Bucktown was also across the street. Meaning there is an indirect (and unintentional) reference to a Fred Williamson and PAM GRIER movie!

2. I have been calling the gun dealer Fast Eddie all these years, when it is actually Easy Andy. How did I mess that up?

3. Travis has a lot of porno mags under his bed. In the scene right after he does the famous "You talking to me?" scene, he is on his bed during the voice over narration, and I see what appear to be porn mags, and one of them is called "Discipline." Had no clue Travis was THAT kinky...

4. When talking about the commune with Iris and he says "I don't get along with people like that" it finally connected that Travis hates hippies. Just like any good Marine.

5. In the scene where the newspaper clips are being shown, the first clippings are large complete with photos and diagrams of the crime scene. In the clipping where Travis is announced he will recover the clipping is smaller like the first part of an column article. The final clipping saying he was released was very tiny. Just like the sensationalist news media...

As far back as Cobpyth and Gunslinger can remember, they've always loved Scorsese.
