Discuss: Films of 2017

Tools

I was wondering if a thread like this existed and after having a little look, it seemed that there was no thread for discussing the films of the year.

So I thought that we could use this thread to discuss 2017 releases, movies that you are looking forward to seeing this year, etc.

I have not been up to date on new releases for the last two years or so, and I want to get back into the loop.

You can't win an argument just by being right!

Eh...I havent even heard of those except Ghost Story which I saw mentioned here. I knew there would be a stack missing from the list I got mine from. Even Hitman's Bodyguard was missing and that screens in US in august.

This might just do nobody any good.
So far things are looking up. I'd say the "worst" movie I've seen this year is Beauty and the Beast, which wasn't really bad, just superfluous.

Everything else has been either a fun watch (Lego, Kong), very good (Logan) or great (Get Out).

Looking forward to:

Paul Thomas Anderson's New Movie
Blade Runner 2049
Detroit '67 (Kathryn Bigelow)
Okja
Where Life is Born (Carlos Reygadas)
A Ghost Story
It Comes at Night
You Were Never Really Here (Lynne Ramsey)
Mary Magdalene (Joaquin Phoenix as Jesus)
Mother (Darren Aronofsky)
Personal Shopper
Wonderstruck (Todd Haynes)
Suspiria
Guardians of the Galaxy vol.2
Thor: Ragnarok
God Particle
Mute (Duncan Jones)
John Wick: Chapter 2 (missed this)
The Shape of Water
Atomic Blonde
The Beguiled
The Snowman
Suburbicon
Yeh Din Ka Kissa (Noah Baumbach)

Oh and some sci-fi movie called Star Wars.

Some of these aren't really talked about too much outside of their facebook pages or blogs. Horror just happens to be my preferred genre, so I tend to keep a closer eye on it and often stumble across some interesting titles.

I've got a horror fan on fb plus my young teen niece who is my gore twin and they usually alert me. Other than that I just wait for recommendations from mofos, so yeah, keep me up to date, Monnom. I saw Split the other night and had high hopes M Night got his act together but alas.

You didn't like Split? I thought it was fantastic.

I loved McAvoy, didnt mind the actress who played the shrink, thought the young actresses were pretty flat but I dont think they were given much to work with, and didnt like #24 personality - I think you'll understand without me explaining in spoiler. I thought that ruined it. I might have a rewatch at some stage with a different frame of mind - I loved the kid personality.

SEEN
Split (crap, frankly)
In A Valley of Violence (good)
Train to Busan (very good)
Before I Wake (good)
Beauty and the Beast (fantastic)
Life (excellent)

WANT TO SEE
Guardians of the Galaxy 2
John Wick 2
The Circle
Kingsman 2

MAYBE (depending on reviews)
Alien: Covenant
Jumanji

Raw is what I'm looking forward to seeing the most. Also looking forward to The Void.

This might just do nobody any good.
Ooh, that's another one for me. I've heard so many great things too.

Saw Split and Get Out; both were fun to see at the show. I doubt I'd buy Get Out on Blu-ray, but I may condisder Split. Movies I'm looking forward to seeing this year are:

Alien Covenant
Stephen King's It
Annihilation
The Circle
God Particle
Small Town Crime
American Made
Mute
Ingrid Goes West

Thursday Next's Avatar
I never could get the hang of Thursdays.
Seen:
The Lego Batman Movie

Looking forward to:

Beauty and the Beast
Paddington 2
The Limehouse Golem
The Handmaiden
We Have Always Lived in the Castle
Star Wars: The Last Jedi
The Dark Tower
