Travelling.....

Tools

hey everyone, well i was just thinking **** over, you know one of those sleepless nights were you just lay there and contemplate things. Anyways i came to the decision that my life at this point is at a stand still and ive been waitin for something to happen and as of yet nothing has , I realized that pretty bored with the same old routine, work, sleep and spend money needlessly . So I came to the conclusion that i might get a better idea of whats out there if i expand my horizons and travel. So what im askin is has anyone on here gone travelling for extended periods of time, and if so where did you go, what were some of the best experiences you had, what were some of the worst, how long where you gone, what did you leave behind, did you go alone or with a freind/s, did you have anyone to fall back on in the country/ies you travelled to,how hard was it to find jobs and most importantly did you find what you were looking for?
Any and all comments on this subject would be welcome.

Dude. That's way too deep. We just talking about Pootie Tang around here.

In Soviet America, you sue MPAA!
A good friend of mine spent 68 days island hoping in southern Asia, went to 17 different countries. He spent, airfare included, a whopping $1,600. That includes everything he bought (and he bought alotta stuff) all his food, everything. He didn't know anyone there, yet managed to spend several weeks staying at someone's farmhouse, free of charge.

I know the experience changed his life. He went back again this summer with his girlfriend, not too sure if he had as much fun as he did when he went with his friend, but I know he had a good time this time around as well. He went mine walking in Cambodia. I think he said his favorite place...I may be confusing this with someone elses (a much older person), but I believe he said Vietnam was his favorite place.

Another two friends of mine went country hopping in Europe, traveling by train/hiking and they had a blast as well.

I personally have never taken a long distance personal trip, essentially just for the experience of it, but I have been to England a good 13 or 14 times and just being out there really shapes how you view the world.

I've taken a couple of cross-country tips - Utah to Ohio twice, Ohio to California. It's an adventure. I've been stranded in a blizzard in a field in Wyoming. I've gotten stuck in Cheyenne and taken in by a Mormon family (I was Mormon at the time) who found someone to fix the car I was driving, basically adopted me for the weekend, and sent Christmas cards for years after. I've been flashed by a horndog trucker while going 70 mph (not really recommending that experience). You can pretty much count on something going wrong, and living through that gives you a good perspective on the stupid little crap that goes wrong in your everyday life. If you have the money to do it, I think you definately should. The world is a huge place, and in my experience, the people who keep that in mind are much more interesting.

Yeah you deffinetely picked the wrong time to come to Florida. Why do all European people want to come to Florida? I just moved down here from outside of DC...it isn't very interesting here at all...

Tell me about it, although, the weather wasnt really that bad considering there were a million hurricanes zooming all over the plce, still managed to end up looking like a lobster.

Are you being serious when you say Florida isnt interesting to us Brits?? one word - DISNEY!!
You dont get magic like that in the U.K....ok well maybe when you see some of the buskers on the underground you do but its hard to find it really is.

Ahh...I forgot about Disney. Yeah I guess America is just more magical than England.

I haven't been for an extended time OS but i have been to a few places:

The BEST had to be my Honeymoon in Zimbabwe, we flew over the Victoria falls in a small plane, I saw Elephants swimming in Lake Kareba, only there trunks were out of the water, saw Hippo's swimming, Lions, Zebras, Giraffes, I was in a jeep that broke-down in a herd of grazing Elephants, One of them came right up to our jeep and touched one of the passengers with her trunk, another pushed our jeep with her tusks, now that was amazing.

The WORST was in Macau, i was arrested by the police and escorted to the station where the policeman who arrested me wanted me thrown in jail, all i did was do an accidental illegal turn, Oh and i gave him the one finger wave,

Most interesting, I was in Fiji when they had a military Coo

Many more but don't want to bore you

Haven't done the cross-country thing, 'cept with family (we drove from Pennsylvania to Florida, and then back).

Been to Las Vegas, though. Flew to Indiana several times. Drove to Michigan. Been to New York City twice. Spent a single night in Houston, and spent about 30 minutes in Canada.

I expect I'll visit Scotland before I die.
