BEST ACTRESS:
Julie Christie, Away from Her
I was just watching some of this, and had to take a break. Don't get me wrong, it's a great movie. She does a great job. HE does a great job. They're doing too good of a job, and I was too upset to keep watching. I know from family experience, that they are portraying the effects of this disease perfectly. It's like with Dustin Hoffman, in Rain Man. He played the part perfectly. I knew this, because of my son. My son won't die from autism though, so it doesn't hit me nearly as hard. I was also surprised to see how young we can get Alzheimer's disease, and that it hits our short term memory first. It's a great movie. I'm depressed. I'll finish it in a bit . . .

Well, I never would have pictured all of that happening. I don't even know if I should feel sorry for anyone, anymore. Not to sound like an awful person, but I know how bad life can be, and for them, it seems to have worked out for everyone involved. I should be so lucky!

OK, I'm still crying, but that's beside the point.

On a side note, I do not agree with the rules of that hospital, in giving them 30 days to forget their family. That was obviously going to be the end result. Yes, in this story, it still worked out in the end, but as far as any hospital in real life goes, I surely hope they don't do that. My mother's aunt wasn't admitted until right before she past away last month, so I can't say if any of them really do that or not.

So no Michael Clayton there either. Have you seen it, Holden? If so, what did you think? I missed it when it ran over here. I've heard mixed reviews.

I like Michael Clayton just fine. It's no masterpiece or anything, but a solid movie with a few great performances, namely Clooney's, Tom Wilkinson and Tilda Swinton. It has a very satisfying final line, but I found the second half of the film too repetitive. It's a good flick, but hits too many of the same notes for my ear. And I do not think it's one of the ten best movies of the year or any such thing, most definitely not one of the five best.

Still, it's worth seeing.

Which award is that? It won five of the awards in this thread: National Board of Review, L.A. Film Critics, Chicago Film Critics, Critics Choice and AFI Awards.

And I take it you've seen Persepolis then?

Ratatouille was an excellent film. Loved every minute of it. Glad it was rewarded.
