I haven't seen this great talent mentioned today, so I thought I'd go ahead and post something. Here it is.
Like most people, I first came across Paul Scofield in the film version of A Man For All Seasons
It was only years later that I watched Carve Her Name With Pride, The Train and Quiz Show.
If you have seen The Train, this ending should remind you how awesome it is.
If you haven't, check out this trailer. It'll give you a hint how terrific it is.
To tell you the truth, I don't really approve of this video because of the music, but it does have lots of early Paul Scofield (even if you can't hear him) and Virginia McKenna. It's a pretty good based-on-fact WWII flick.
I think younger viewers recognize Paul Scofield as another true-life character, Mark Van Doren in Quiz Show, Ralph Fiennes' dad. He received his final Oscar nomination for that role. Unfortunately, I can't find a good post of that.
