Action Scenes

when it comes to freeway car chasing the first movie that comes to my mind is The Matrix Reloaded.
Just watching cars flipping in Slow motion gives mi the shivers.O and when the Agent jumps from from one car to another and flipping it(again on slow motion)well that was maybe the best moment from the whole movie

Aen Flux I guess...The actions in this movie is really great even though sometimes it is impossible....I love the moves and the fighting scene....

The opening and closing sequences of Hardboiled and the final battle sequence of The Seven Samurai are by far the best action set pieces in film history.

Other tremendous action scenes:

The palace battle between the First Emperor of Qin and Broken Sword in Hero.

The finale of Throne of Blood (brilliant for the almost passive nature of it's incredible violence)

The attack on Burpelson Air Force Base in Dr. Strangelove (genius use of documentary style footage).

The initial assault on the Japanese fortifications in The Thin Red Line (about as a lyrical an action sequence as you'll ever find).

I couldn't agree more. It's worth watching for the Goodfellas-style three-minute tracking shot shootout alone.

I agree with any of John Woo's Hong Kong flicks. Face/Off had some pretty cool sequences too. The boat chase was great.

I love Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. I think my favorites were the destruction of the tea house and the fight between Michelle Yeoh and Ziyi Zhang.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Jackie Chan. Lots of good stuff in his movies, although I can't think of any individual ones at the moment.

The car chase in Death Proof was one of the most amazing things I've ever seen.

The Battle of the Pelennor Fields in Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

Casino Royale anybody? I thought the beginning chase scene was awesome!

Can't wait for the next one...

To elaborate on my earlier post about Hard Boiled, it's a far more exagerated version of The Killer, replacing character in favour of bigger and louder action, so it suits this discussion moreso than The Killer, though think that the church shoot out at the end of The Killer is on par with Hard Boiled action, just not scale.

Not sure how i forgot Oldboy and it's single shot fight scene where Oh Dea-Su tackles like 30 guys with a hammer. A Bittersweet Life has some similar styled fights which are all amazing.

Most of Rambo, think it's 3 where he's in a trench faced by the Russian army and being forced to surrender, his respone- "****** em". Quality.

The opening scene of 28 Weeks Later is pretty intense, still had my jaw dropped second time watching it.

Team America has some fun action scenes lol.

Agree with Desperado.

Drunken Master for me is the highlight of Jackie Chan's career (not seen many of his 80s HK flicks with Hung and Biao that Lines mentioned). Unleashed is my favourite Jet Li, though may not be his best.

Don't forget A Better Tomorrow 2. About 90% of the film's deaths happen in the last 10 minutes.

And insofar as action goes, I think Seven Samurai kinda deserves a mention. The fight scenes were handled pretty well. That reminds me, I need to finish Ran sometime...

One last thing...here are FHM's Top 10 Movie Shoot-outs. Out of the 9 I've seen (the exception is Open Range), they all deserve their place.

Was that the one in the hospital? If so I agree: that was outstanding.

The end fight.

Die hard 20 mins from the end where mclane is beating karl to a pulp.
Superman 2 fight with 3 bad guys in street.

I remember watching Die Another Day and saying to myself while watching "wow there's a lot of action in this movie". As for martial art movies I love bloodsport and Tony Jaa films. In ong-bak I loved the fight against the Japanese guy with the afro and in tom yum goong the fight with the capoeira guy in the burning building and then the massive giant guy straight after.

Hard-Boiled featured the hospital shoot-out. The shootout in A Better Tomorrow 2 took place in a Triad mansion. Guns, grenades, swords...the whole she-bang.

If I had to guess (based roughly off moviebodycounts.com), I'd say roughly 40% of Hard-Boiled's kills happens in the hospital shootout (this equates to roughly 120 deaths out of 300 in the whole movie).

r
A lot of scenes in Buster Keaton films,
I just watched The General I haven't watched a movie of his for years, i had forgotten how great he was

Yeh, i think Prospero, you're thinking of Hard Boiled?

But A Better Tomorrow 2? Not seen it, had marked down as a miss tbh. Woo didn't direct did he?

You guys might want to add The Bourne Ultimatum to the list because that film features some of the most ridiculously impressive and realistic stunt sequences I have seen in my life. From the chase through the Moroccan rooftops to the intense car chase in New York, the film had it ALL. And more importantly, it was ALL done well.

I think one of those immense battles in either Lord of the rings 2/3 or that movie 300.
